This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rising gas bubbles in bubbling fluidized beds are important for all hydrodynamics related phenomena, e.g. mass transfer, gas bypassing, heat transfer, gas-solids mixing, etc. However, still many interactions of bubbles with specific operation conditions in fluidized beds are unknown. In this work, fluidized beds with vertical heat exchangers are investigated. Vertical heat exchangers are in this case used to remove the heat of reaction from the exothermal methanation reaction for the production of synthetic natural gas (SNG) from wood. Several vertical tube bank configurations varying in their diameter, tube-to-tube spacing, and arrangement (square vs. triangular) have been immersed into a lab-scale fluidized bed. By means of optical probing and pressure fluctuation measurements, their influence on the rising gas bubbles has been evaluated by means of statistical tools. Findings from these experiments are furthermore used to develop a modified approach to scale up fluidized beds with vertical internals.

Book Fluid Dynamics of Turbulent Fluidized Beds for Geldart s Group B Particles

Download or read book Fluid Dynamics of Turbulent Fluidized Beds for Geldart s Group B Particles written by Tom Wytrwat and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth experimental study of the fluid dynamics of turbulent fluidized beds with particles of Geldart’s Group B was carried out. For this purpose, fluidization behavior was investigated in different fluidized bed plants having diameters in the range of 0.05 m to 1 m. Pressure fluctuation analysis has been used as an identification tool for the turbulent fluidized bed regime. Different fluidization conditions have been investigated by variation of the fluidized bed properties, the bed material properties, and the gas properties. Based on the measured data, a correlation predicting the transition velocity from bubbling to turbulent fluidization is introduced. To investigate the local flow structure, capacitance probe measurements have been carried out. Using this measurement technique, local solids concentrations and properties of rising bubbles have been determined and analyzed. Finally, an empiric fluid dynamic model was developed using the local measurement data. It is mainly based on capacitance probe measurements and shows high accuracy in comparison to pressure data.

Book Hydrodynamics Study of the Bubble Columns with Intense Vertical Heat exchanging Tubes Using Gamma ray Computed Tomography and Radioactive Particle Tracking Techniques

Download or read book Hydrodynamics Study of the Bubble Columns with Intense Vertical Heat exchanging Tubes Using Gamma ray Computed Tomography and Radioactive Particle Tracking Techniques written by Abbas Jawad Sultan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Understanding the hydrodynamics of bubble columns with and without vertical heat-exchanging tubes is a necessity for the proper design, scale-up, and operation of these reactors. To achieve this goal, systematic experiments were performed to visualize and quantify the influence of the presence of vertical internal tubes on the gas holdup distributions and their profiles, axial liquid velocity, and turbulent parameters (i.e., normal and shear stresses; turbulent kinetic energy) by using advanced gamma-ray computed tomography (CT) and radioactive particle tracking (RPT). In this study, the experiments were conducted in 6- and 18-inch bubble columns with an air-water system as the working fluid, under a wide range of superficial gas velocities (5-45 cm/s). Three configurations of vertical internals (i.e., hexagonal, circular without a central tube, and circular with a central tube plus vertical internals), as well as the vertical internals sizes, were examined in this study. These three configurations were designed to cover 25% of the column's cross-sectional area (CSA) to represent the percentage of the covered area utilized in the Fischer-Tropsch process. Reconstructed CT images reveal that the configurations of the vertical internal tubes significantly impacted the gas holdup distribution over the CSA of the column. Additionally, the bubble column equipped with 1-inch vertical internals exhibited a more uniform gas holdup distribution than the column with 0.5-inch internals. Moreover, a remarkable increase in the gas holdup values at the wall region was achieved in the churn turbulent flow regime due to the insertion of vertical internals inside the column. Furthermore, pronounced peaks of the gas holdup and axial liquid velocity were observed in the inner gaps between the vertical internals"--Abstract, page iv.

Book Hydrodynamic Study of Three Phase Fluidized Beds

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Study of Three Phase Fluidized Beds written by Ravindra Gaikwad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general purpose of the experimental investigations described here has to study the hydrodynamic properties of gas-liquid fluidized beds. Gas -liquid fluidization of or three-phase fluidization is a chemical engineering operation where all the three phases are brought into contact with each other. This contact is brought about by passing the gas and liquid trough the bed of solids. The solids are said to be in a fluidized state when they are suspended in the continuous phase.Hydrodynamic properties such as gas hold-up, liquid hold-up and bed porosity have been studied. These properties depend upon certain independent variables such as gas flow rates, liquid flow rate, particle size, static bed heights, gas density, liquid density, solid density, liquid surface tension, liquid viscosity, gas viscosity and particle shape. During the course of this experimental investigation only four of these parameters have been varied, viz, gas flow rates, liquid flow rates, static bed height and particle size. The result of these experimental investigations is discussed and correlations have also been developed for the hydrodynamics properties studied.
