Book Investigation of Adaptive Protocols for Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks

Download or read book Investigation of Adaptive Protocols for Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes research in adaptive protocols for spread- spectrum packet radio networks. Adaptive forwarding and routing protocols were developed and their performance was determined by simulation of a frequency-hop packet radio network with mobile partial-band jamming. New forwarding protocols were designed to permit short-term adaptation to changes in the interference environment in the network. A new routing technique, called least-resistance routing was developed, and various versions of this routing method were examined. Comparisons were made between different versions of least-resistance routing and between least-resistance routing and previously developed adaptive routing techniques. It was found that least-resistance routing is an effective way for dealing with mobile jamming in a frequency-hop packet radio network. Significant increases in throughput and end-to-end probability of success were obtained by use of least-resistance routing.

Book Use of Side Information in Adaptive Protocols for Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks

Download or read book Use of Side Information in Adaptive Protocols for Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary of the results obtained in research sponsored by the Army Research Office under contract DAALO3-92-c-0018 and conducted during the period July 1, 1992 to August 31, 1995 is presented. Reliable data distribution within spread spectrum packet radio networks requires high performance from the network protocols. The high variability of the qualities of the links and the unique characteristics of frequency hop spread spectrum signaling impose special requirements for network protocols that are to be employed in frequency hop packet radio networks. Side information that can be extracted from the received spread spectrum signals that are embedded in noise and interference provides information about the quality of the links in the packet radio network. This research investigated several techniques for utilizing side information to aid the network protocols in establishing reliable routes in a mobile, tactical packet radio network.

Book Communication Protocols for Heterogeneous Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks

Download or read book Communication Protocols for Heterogeneous Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project has focused on the development of protocols and reception techniques for distributed packet radio networks that exploit directional antennas to provide high-throughput, reliable data and voice communications, and that conserve sensor battery energy when relaying sensor data through the network. The research focused on the development of channel-access protocols, adaptive link protocols, and adaptive routing protocols for packet radio networks that employ spread-spectrum modulation. One goal of the research has been to ensure that critical data is forwarded from microsensors to data-fusion centers or mobile-radio end systems while efficiently utilizing the limited energy in the sensors' nonrechargeable batteries. A primary research emphasis has been the design of protocols that minimize the total energy consumption for store-and-forward routing through the sub-network of microsensors, and that account for energy depletion in individual sensors. An important component of this emphasis is the design of protocols that utilize more capable radio systems in the tactical network whenever possible to minimize the amount of data relaying required of the sensors. A second, related emphasis has been efficient exploitation of the presence within the tactical network of mobile radio systems that utilize directional antennas. Primary topics of the research include the design of the packet-acquisition techniques, channel-access protocols, and resource-management techniques that allow a node with multiple fixed-beam directional antennas to exploit their capabilities without introducing a significant increase in the complexity of the network's protocols. A list of related publications is included.

Book Adaptive WCDMA

Download or read book Adaptive WCDMA written by Savo G. Glisic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-25 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is one type of multiple access system used in radio communication. Other multiple access methods include TDMA, FDMA, etc. WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is the main air interface used for third generation mobile communication systems - UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) and is characterised by a wider band than CDMA. WCDMA uses a wider radio band than CDMA, which was used for 2G systems, and has a high transfer rate and increased system capacity and communication quality by statistical multiplexing, etc. WCDMA efficiently utilises the radio spectrum to provide a maximum data rate of 2 Mbit/s. Third generation mobile communication systems are scheduled for operational startup in Japan and Europe in 2001-2002. Applying high-speed data transfer and state-of-the-art radio terminal technology, third generations systems enable multimedia and are currently in the process of being standardised under 3GPP. Among the three types of system to be standardised (i.e. WCDMA, MC-CDMA, UTRA TDD), Japan and Europe will adopt WCDMA in a strategy to take the lead through superior service. This volume will cover the latest theoretical principles of WCDMA and explain why these principles are used in the standards. Starting with a general overview, the more advanced material is then gradually introduced providing an excellent roadmap for the reader. * Presents comprehensive coverage of the theoretical and practical aspects of WCDMA * Provides a detailed roadmap by presenting the material step-by-step for readers from differing backgrounds * Systematically presents the latest results in the field Ideal for Engineers, academics and postgraduate students involved in research and development, engineers involved in management and administration.
