Download or read book Investigation of a Through Plate Girder Railroad Bridge Classic Reprint written by Frederick Bowman Nicodemus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Investigation of a Through Plate Girder Railroad Bridge Loading. The girders are designed for Waddell's Class R loading, which consists of two ton engines followed by ifioo pounds per linear foot, for a dead load of 750 pounds of steel per linear foot, and 450 pounds per linear foot for track. In the investigation the live load is considered the same as that used in the design, but the dead load is taken directly from the computations which are the actual calculated weights. Book Plate Girder Railway Bridges Classic Reprint

Download or read book Plate Girder Railway Bridges Classic Reprint written by Maurice Fitzmaurice and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plate-Girder Railway Bridges The great majority of bridges on a line of railway are short-span plate-girder bridges. This book is intended to help those young engineers who, joining an engineers office for the first time, find themselves engaged in this class of work. All complicated calculations have been avoided and the object in view has been to help the student or pupil to design a bridge of this kind efficiently, cheaply, simply, and in accordance with modern practice. The theoretical knowledge required is small, and an attempt has been made not to enlarge on this part of the subject more than absolutely necessary. Practical details with regard to construction and erection, together with particulars of market sizes of plates, &c., have been given as far as possible. A chapter has been given to specifications for steel and iron, and to some notes on the treatment of these metals in the manufacture of bridge work, accompanied by some remarks on the working stresses to be adopted in these materials. Book Plate Girder Construction Classic Reprint

Download or read book Plate Girder Construction Classic Reprint written by Isamu Hiroi and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plate-Girder Construction For railway as well as highway bridges, there is probably no other form of girders that are more extensively used and daily being constructed than plate girders. The reason for this lies mainly in the simplicity of their construction and their stiffness as compared with Open-girders. That the construction of a plate-girder is simple, is, however, no reason to suppose that the stresses produced in it by external forces are, also, simple. On the contrary, to de termine the actual stresses in every part of a plate-girder is one of the most complicated problems that can come in the way of bridge engineers. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Revision of the Niagara Railway Arch Bridge The investigations as to the proper unit stresses to adopt and the logical column formula to use for the revision, are given at some length. The strain-gauge investigation also determined the secondary stresses, and readings Of stresses made during the passage of trains at various speeds were made the basis of a formula for a curve of values for impact at various Speeds. The new fuller-west strain gauge, developed as a result of the investigations, is described. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Long-Span Railway Bridges: Comprising Investigations of the Comparative The portion of the following work treating on Long span Railway Bridges, was first published some seven years ago, so but little introduction will now be re quired. As stated in the Preface to the First Edition, on proceeding with the investigation, it was at once seen that a strictly mathematical treatment of the subject would entail lengthy and involved formulae, and absorb far greater space than was available for the purpose. Accordingly, the various hypotheses, which it is absolutely necessary to make in an inquiry of this nature, are framed as comprehensively as pos sible; and in many instances the result of a careful balancing of probabilities is given without exhibiting the process by which it has been evolved. In short, elimination, and not elaboration, has been the aim throughout. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
