This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gruy Federal, Inc. (Gruy) operates under Contract No. EG-77-C-08-1528 to the Department of Energy, Division of Geothermal Energy, to evaluate potential alternate energy sources occurring within geopressured-geothermal (Geo) aquifers in Miocene, Oligocene, Tuscaloosa, Wilcox, and Frio formations along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast. The project is entitled ''Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured-Geothermal Wells''. The original period of performance was from September 26, 1977, through September 30, 1978; the contract was later extended through September 30, 1979. The first well on which testing was attempted under this contract was the Alice C. Plantation No. 2 Well, located in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Originally drilled by the Sun Oil Company to a total depth of 19,000 feet, this well was abandoned as a dry hole in January 1964. Gruy's reentry attempt ended with plugging and abandonment after a saltwater flow on September 17, 1978. This report is a comprehensive document detailing all events and costs relating to the Alice C. plantation well, from its initial selection as a reentry well through the plugging and abandonment operations.

This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well of opportunity (WOO) geopressured-geothermal prospect has been drilled to 15,265 feet by Southport Exploration, Inc. (Southport) as the Beulah Simon No. 2 Well. The well is located in Section 26, T11S, R2E, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, approximately four miles northeast of the town of Kaplan. The wellsite is shown on the enclosed section of USGS topographic sheet, ''Lafayette, La.'', and is accessible by State Highway 13 from Interstate Highway 10. The well was drilled approximately one mile east of the Southport et al. Beulah Simon No. 1 Well in the Cossinade Field. The Beulah Simon No. 1 Well is producing natural gas from a zone which is separate and distinct from the target reservoir in the No. 2 Well.

Book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells Fairfax Foster Sutter No 2 Well St Mary Parish Louisiana Volume I Completion and Testing Final Report

Download or read book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells Fairfax Foster Sutter No 2 Well St Mary Parish Louisiana Volume I Completion and Testing Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fairfax Foster Sutter No. 2 well, located in the East Franklin area of St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, is the first successful test of a geopressured-geothermal aquifer under the Well-of-Opportunity program. The section tested was the MA-6 sand of lower Miocene age which has produced large quantities of gas from the adjacent but structurally separated Garden City field. In the subject well the observed temperature was 270°F (132°C) and the measured gradient was 0.77 psi/ft. The gross sand thickness was 270 feet, the net sand thickness 190 feet, and the tested interval 58 net feet. The temperatures and pressures encountered approached the limits of the surface-recording bottomhole pressure gauge and particularly the single-conductor cables on which the gauges were run. The objectives of the tests were all accomplished, and data were obtained which will contribute to the overall assessment of the geopressured-geothermal resource of the Upper Gulf of Mexico basin. In general, the gas solubility (22.8 scf/bbl) was as expected for the temperature, pressure, and salinity of the brine. The produced water was more saline than expected (160,000 mg/l). The high concentrations of dissolved solids, coupled with the evolution of CO2 from these waters during production, created a scaling problem in the tubular goods and surface equipment that will have to be addressed in future tests.

This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Gruy Federal Type II-B prospect was drilled as the Superior Oil Company No. 1 Watkins-Miller, API designation 17-023-20501 and is located in Section 5, T15S, R5W, Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The well site is just north of lot 39 on Indian Point Island and is readily accessible from state highway Route 82 and a shell road in good condition. Superior Oil completed this well in late 1970 as a dual gas producer in sands between 11,150 and 11,250 feet but eventually abandoned the well in December, 1974. The cellar of the well is still visible on the site. This location is shown on the lower portion of USGS topographic sheet ''Grand Lake West'' in the map pocket of the Gruy Federal report ''Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured-Geothermal Wells, Prospective Test Wells in the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast'', February 28, 1978.

This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Gruy Federal Type II-B, geopressured-geothermal (Geo) prospect was drilled as the Sun Oil Company, No. 2 Alice C. Plantation and is located in Section 2, Township 16-S, Range 10-E, St. mary Parish, Louisiana. The well site is 3,705.61 feet from U.S.C. and G.S. marker ''Foster''. The well site is located in a sugar cane field, and is accessible by approximately 2,500 feet of cane field road. The well was originally drilled to a depth of 19,000 feet and abandoned as a dry hole in December, 1963. The location is shown on the west central area of the USGS topographic sheet, 'North Bend'', Louisiana, in the Gruy Federal report, ''Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured-Geothermal Wells, prospective Test Wells in the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast'', March 20, 1978.

Book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells

Download or read book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells written by R. J. Dobson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well was approved for reentry and test operations after consideration of a number of reentry prospects in Cameron Parish. This was a marsh location that required 2.3 miles of board road and replacement of two bridges. Road work was commenced on June 19, 1978, and site preparation was completed on October 25. The drilling rig moved on location on November 2. This rig was released on December 16. Reentry operations were completely unsuccessful because of failure to effect a tieback of the 7'' casing. The plugging and abandonment records filed with the Louisiana Department of Conservtion indicated that the top of the 7'' casing was at or near the base of the 10-3/4'' casing when the well was plugged. These records did not specify that the 7'' casing had been dynamited one or more times during the recovery operation. Numerous attempts were made to locate and condition the 7'' casing for tying back to the surface. All these were unsuccessful. The top of the 7'' casing was never clearly located, or if located was subsequently lost, and therefore it was not possible to cut and recover the damaged section in order to effect a tieback. The total cost of the attempted reentry was approximately $1,925,000. Of this amount, some $444,000 was spent on road and site preparation and disposal well. This expenditure can be salvaged in the event a decision is made to redrill the well.
