Book FM CW Radar Design and Development for On site Refractory Wall Thickness Measurement

Download or read book FM CW Radar Design and Development for On site Refractory Wall Thickness Measurement written by Brian Joseph Carroll and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Refractory materials used in glass melting furnaces are etched away over time by molten glass. This etching can become so severe that the refractory materials must be replaced. The precise knowledge of the amount and location of this wear is important for both safety and cost efficiency. A study was conducted using a wideband frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar system to measure the thickness of these refractory materials from outside the furnace. This radar system requires simple microwave components and can be designed to be portable, allowing measurements to be collected at several locations throughout a furnace and processed in real time. The frequency spectrum of the output signal from the radar contains range information about boundaries within the furnace wall. This investigation describes the experimental and theoretical results of this radar system under many measurement conditions, and well as a limited dielectric property measurement for several refractory materials"--Abstract, leaf iii.

Book FM CW Boundary Layer Radar with Doppler Capability

Download or read book FM CW Boundary Layer Radar with Doppler Capability written by R. G. Strauch and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high resolution FM-CW microwave boundary layer radar has been equipped with Doppler processing. The Doppler velocity spectrum is obtained from each range resolution cell by computing the power spectrum of the signal obtained from a sequence of consecutive sweeps. Target range is measured from the signal frequency by the usual FM-CW analysis techniques. Target velocity is obtained from a measurement of the signal phase in each sweep. The velocity spectrum of meteorological (distributed) targets can be measured whereas previously only the mean velocity of point targets could be obtained from this type of radar. Results obtained with snow tracers using a variety of sweep parameters demonstrate that the Doppler spectrum is easily obtained by a microwave FM-SW radar for altitudes below 2 km.

Book Precision FMCW Short Range Radar for Industrial Applications

Download or read book Precision FMCW Short Range Radar for Industrial Applications written by Boris A. Atayants and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes methods for making accurate radar measurements of short distances in applications where physical contact with materials is impractical. Sources of error are identified, and methods of reducing these errors are described. Practical test procedures for measuring instruments are also provided. Much of the book is dedicated to providing radar engineers with practical applications, detailing the conditions, equipment, and approach of experimental estimation. With the help of computer simulation, the achievable advantages in accuracy of radar range measurement with various approaches are revealed and quantitatively estimated. Readers are also provided with methods of random process theory and mathematical statistics, along with functional analysis and optimization.

Book Development of an Airborne MMW FM CW Radar for Mapping River Ice

Download or read book Development of an Airborne MMW FM CW Radar for Mapping River Ice written by Norbert E. Yankielun and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyses of a river's freezeup ice cover stability and its breakup rely on detailed knowledge of the cover's thickness and the variability of that thickness. A high-resolution, millimeter wave (26.5- to 40-GHz) Frequency Modulated-Continuous Wave radar with real-time data acquisition and digital signal processing and display capability was deployed from a low-flying (3-10 m) helicopter to continuously acquire, process and display data during an ice thickness profiling survey of a 24-km study reach. A nominal sheet ice thickness of 50 cm, occasional areas of new ice sheet as thin as 5 cm, open leads, and massive ice accumulations on the order of 5 m thick were encountered. Radar profiling data agreed with ground truth from borehole measurements of the sheet ice, and provided a more detailed view of the ice conditions than that obtained from a low altitude video survey. The radar system provided rapid, safe and accurate data acquisition, allowing detailed mapping of the ice conditions throughout the reach ... Book A Low Power Wideband FMCW Radar System with Continuous Beam Steering Using Frequency Conversion Active Electronically Scanned Array

Download or read book A Low Power Wideband FMCW Radar System with Continuous Beam Steering Using Frequency Conversion Active Electronically Scanned Array written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A frequency modulated continuous wave radar with continuous beam steering is developed for this thesis. The beam steering is achieved with the use of a 4-element active electronically scanned array (AESA). A Fast Fourier Transform based imaging algorithm is developed to produce imagery from the radar output. A model is also developed for image simulation. This radar occupies a 600 MHz bandwidth operating in the S band. This radar is unusual in that it uses a frequency conversion architecture to achieve beam steering and does not rely on time delays to negate beam squinting. Instead, the smearing of imaged targets due to phased array characteristics is investigated. Using readily available and low cost off the shelf components, this system can produce an image of the target scene and image targets behind a factory wall of up to 20 meters away with only 1 mW of transmit power.
