Book Impact of Leader s Emotional Intelligence on Sub Ordinates Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Task Performance

Download or read book Impact of Leader s Emotional Intelligence on Sub Ordinates Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Task Performance written by Maha Shamim and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research was conducted with a core objective to study the relationship between leaders' emotional intelligence, organizational culture, and sub-ordinates' OCB and task performance. A theoretical framework is proposed modifying Miao et al. (2018) model to include a mediating role of organizational culture between leaders' emotional intelligence and sub-ordinates' OCB and task performance. To measure, organizational culture, we used the competing values framework, which classifies the organizational culture into four types i.e. Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy and Market Culture. A direct relationship between subordinates' OCB and task performance is also studied in this research. Emotional intelligence was measured through different dimensions namely self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, and relationship management. To assess its empirical validity, a survey was conducted from 200 managers, working in different sectors of Pakistan. The data was collected by means of a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed by using Smart PLS Software. The results from the responses gathered show that Leader's Emotional Intelligence has a significant impact on Organizational Culture, as well as on Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. By analyzing the responses, it has been found that Clan, Adhocracy and Market Culture have a strong and significant impact on Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. Whereas, Hierarchy Culture didn't show a significant impact on Sub-Ordinates' OCB but it has an impact on Sub-Ordinates' Task Performance. It was also found that Sub-Ordinates' OCB has a significant impact on their Task Performance. Clan, Adhocracy and Market Culture performed a mediatory role between Leader's Emotional Intelligence and Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. From these results, it can be concluded that Leaders with high Emotional Intelligence competencies help in Shaping Organizational Culture, make it more productive for their Sub-Ordinates and help them to exhibit greater organizational commitment.

Book An Investigation of the Relationships Among Emotional Intelligence Compassion and Organizational Citizenship Behaviors

Download or read book An Investigation of the Relationships Among Emotional Intelligence Compassion and Organizational Citizenship Behaviors written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotional intelligence (EI) has been related to a number of positive work outcomes including organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). Trait based measures of EI have been shown to be stronger predictors of OCBs than ability based measures of EI. The goals of this study were to (1) examine possible variables that might be influencing the differences seen between EI types and OCBs (specifically investigating compassion towards others as a moderating variable), (2) explore the relationship among compassion towards others and other commonly studied psychological variables, and (3) test the incremental validity of EI types above the contribution of the Big Five of personality in predicting OCBs. The current study sampled 357 participants who completed an online survey. Data were collected from Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk). Because of the emphasis on work related outcomes in this study, participants were limited to those who are employed and working at least 20 hours a week at the time of the survey. Further restrictions were included for participants by only collecting data from individuals who are at least 25 years or older and live in the United States. Results showed that trait and ability EI are significantly correlated with OCBs and compassion. Compassion was also significantly correlated with OCBs. In addition, trait EI did not show incremental validity in predicting OCBs compared to the Big Five. However, compassion and ability EI taken together did show incremental validity in predicting OCBs compared to the Big Five. Finally, compassion did not moderate the relationship between EI and OCBs. This study was the first to examine compassion towards others as it relates with EI and organizational variables. Findings suggest that compassion is an important factor in predicting the citizenship behaviors of individuals. This study could lead to a greater appreciation in organizational research of using compassion as a predictor of different work outcomes. Additionally, this research may also influence the utilization of compassion in staffing and developmental decisions in fields where OCBs are critical to overall job performance.

Book The Relationship Between Organizational Citizenship Behaviors Emotional Intelligence and Job Satisfaction in the Workplace

Download or read book The Relationship Between Organizational Citizenship Behaviors Emotional Intelligence and Job Satisfaction in the Workplace written by Windy Lane Stinson and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research investigated the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviors, emotional intelligence, and job satisfaction. The purpose of the study was to gain a greater understanding of the antecedents of organizational citizenship behavior. Subjects were 71 employees of three golf and country clubs located in the southeastern part of the United States. The participants were given five surveys to complete. Correlation analyses and a multiple regression analysis were conducted on the data. The results indicated that cognitive job satisfaction was significantly correlated with organizational citizenship behaviors and that emotional intelligence was significantly correlated with the altruism dimension of organizational citizenship behaviors. The results also showed that emotional intelligence did not moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior. Exploratory analyses revealed that emotional intelligence did add unique variance to organizational citizenship behaviors above and beyond personality traits. Implications of the findings and future research are discussed.

Book Relationship of Emotional Intelligence with Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior

Download or read book Relationship of Emotional Intelligence with Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior written by Tripti Singh and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manuscript examines the relationship of emotional intelligence (El) with transformational leadership (TL) and organizational citizenship behavior (OeB) of the followers. A sample of 57 dyads of managers and their supervisors (i.e. 114 respondents) participated in this study. The reliabilities of the scales were - OeB(0.83), TL (0.88), and El (0.86). El was significantly correlated to conscientiousness, civic virtue, and altruistic behaviors of followers. The method suggested by Barron and Kenny (1986) was used to test mediation of EI between TL and OeB but nothing significant was found. The results indicate that emotional intelligence of leaders enhances the OeB of followers. However, EI of the leader may not be the only factor determining the perception of TL.

Book Envy at Work and in Organizations

Download or read book Envy at Work and in Organizations written by Richard H. Smith and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competition for resources, recognition, and favorable outcomes are all facts of life in professional settings. When one falls short in comparison to colleagues or subordinates, feelings of envy may arise. Fueled by inferiority, hostility and resentment, envy is both ubiquitous and painful. Will employees "level up" with their envied counterpart through self-improvement behaviors? Or will they "level down" through sabotage and undermine their peers and subordinates in the process? Envy at Work and in Organizations aims to determine the direction workplace envy takes. Contributors are drawn from many countries and from an extraordinary range of disciplines to share their insight: experimental social psychologists offer insights from lab studies, psychoanalytical scholars emphasize unconscious processes, organizational psychologists describe groundbreaking research from disparate work settings, and cross-cultural psychologists reveal the variety of ways that envy can emerge as a function of cultures as wide-ranging as the Japanese school system to the fascinating structure of the Israeli kibbutzim. Work and insight from behavioral economists and organizational consultants is also included. Envy at Work and in Organizations is a valuable, distinctive resource for both scholars and practitioners looking to grasp the nature of envy. Edited by Richard H. Smith, Ugo Merlone, and Michelle K. Duffy, this volume will help readers understand the factors that help individuals and organizations overcome envy and transform it into something positive to promote workplace well-being.

Book The Effect of Organizational Justice on Contextual Performance Counterproductive Work Behaviors and Task Performance

Download or read book The Effect of Organizational Justice on Contextual Performance Counterproductive Work Behaviors and Task Performance written by Dwayne Devonish and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study tested the direct effects of three dimensions of organizational justice - distributive justice, procedural justice, and interactional justice - on contextual performance, counterproductive work behaviors, and task performance. The study also examined the moderating effects of an ability measure of emotional intelligence (EI) on the justice-performance relationship. Based on the data from 211 employees across nine organizations from the private and public sectors in a developing country in the Caribbean, the results revealed that all three justice dimensions had significant effects on task performance, contextual performance, and counterproductive work behaviors in the expected direction. Composite EI and its four subdimensions (appraisal and expression of emotion in the self, appraisal and recognition of emotion in others, regulation of emotion, and use of emotion) moderated the relationship between procedural justice and contextual performance, but failed to moderate other justice-performance relationships.

Book excerpt: Workplace mistreatment is a burgeoning topic of interest, with the majority of workers having experienced it in some form. This book explores workplace ostracism and its negative effects on employee and organizational outcomes, such as employee attitudes, behaviors, and well-being. This edited volume defines workplace ostracism and examines how to differentiate ostracism from other type of workplace mistreatment, such as workplace incivility and interpersonal conflict. Among the questions it seeks to answer are: 1) what are the individual, relational, and contextual factors that influence employees’ workplace ostracism experiences; and 2) what constitutes ostracism in stigmatized populations, such as international students, immigrant workers, and older workers. Researchers in organizational behavior, I/O psychology, and the sociology of work will find this book to be a valuable resource.
