This book was released on 2013-02-04 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the mathematical and algorithmic methods for the Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) of complex mechanical systems such as aircraft or car engines. We have focused on the presentation of strategies efficiently and economically managing the different levels of complexity in coupled disciplines (e.g. structure, fluid, thermal, acoustics, etc.), ranging from Reduced Order Models (ROM) to full-scale Finite Element (FE) or Finite Volume (FV) simulations. Particular focus is given to the uncertainty quantification and its impact on the robustness of the optimal designs. A large collection of examples from academia, software editing and industry should also help the reader to develop a practical insight on MDO methods.

Book Inverse Problem Theory and Methods for Model Parameter Estimation

Download or read book Inverse Problem Theory and Methods for Model Parameter Estimation written by Albert Tarantola and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the prediction of observations is a forward problem, the use of actual observations to infer the properties of a model is an inverse problem. Inverse problems are difficult because they may not have a unique solution. The description of uncertainties plays a central role in the theory, which is based on probability theory. This book proposes a general approach that is valid for linear as well as for nonlinear problems. The philosophy is essentially probabilistic and allows the reader to understand the basic difficulties appearing in the resolution of inverse problems. The book attempts to explain how a method of acquisition of information can be applied to actual real-world problems, and many of the arguments are heuristic.

Book Multiobjective Shape Design in Electricity and Magnetism

Download or read book Multiobjective Shape Design in Electricity and Magnetism written by Paolo Di Barba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiobjective Shape Design in Electricity and Magnetism is entirely focused on electric and magnetic field synthesis, with special emphasis on the optimal shape design of devices when conflicting objectives are to be fulfilled. Direct problems are solved by means of finite-element analysis, while evolutionary computing is used to solve multiobjective inverse problems. This approach, which is original, is coherently developed throughout the whole manuscript. The use of game theory, dynamic optimisation, and Bayesian imaging strengthens the originality of the book. Covering the development of multiobjective optimisation in the past ten years, Multiobjective Shape Design in Electricity and Magnetism is a concise, comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to this research field, which is growing in the community of electricity and magnetism. Theoretical issues are illustrated by practical examples. In particular, a test problem is solved by different methods so that, by comparison of results, advantages and limitations of the various methods are made clear.

Book Optimal Synthesis Methods for MEMS

Download or read book Optimal Synthesis Methods for MEMS written by S.G.K. Ananthasuresh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of "microelectromechanical systems," or "MEMS," has gradually evolved from a "discipline" populated by a small group of researchers to an "enabling technology" supporting a variety of products in such diverse areas as mechanical and inertial sensors, optical projection displays, telecommunications equipment, and biology and medicine. Critical to the success of these products is the ability to design them, and this invariably involves detailed modeling of proposed designs. Over the past twenty years, such modeling has become increasingly sophisticated, with full suites of MEMS-oriented computer-aided-design tools now available worldwide. But there is another equally important side to the design process In my own book, Microsystem figuring out what to build in the first place. Design, I chose to emphasize the modeling aspect of design. The task of figuring out what to build was defined by a vague step called "creative thinking." I used practical product examples to illustrate the many subtle characteristics of successful designs, but I made no attempt to systematize the generation ofdesign proposals or optimized designs. That systemization is called "synthesis," which is the subjectofthis book.

Book Numerical Methods for Inverse Problems

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Inverse Problems written by Michel Kern and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies methods to concretely address inverse problems. An inverse problem arises when the causes that produced a given effect must be determined or when one seeks to indirectly estimate the parameters of a physical system. The author uses practical examples to illustrate inverse problems in physical sciences. He presents the techniques and specific methods chosen to solve inverse problems in a general domain of application, choosing to focus on a small number of methods that can be used in most applications. This book is aimed at readers with a mathematical and scientific computing background. Despite this, it is a book with a practical perspective. The methods described are applicable, have been applied, and are often illustrated by numerical examples.
