Book excerpt: Discover a scientifically supported method to reduce chronic pain! Autogenic Training: A Mind-Body Approach to the Treatment of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome is the most comprehensive book ever written on autogenic training and its uses in the treatment of chronic pain, fibromyalgia, CFS, and other chronic conditions. Autogenic training is one of the most well-established, well-researched methods of enhancing the body's natural, self-recuperative mechanisms. It is the only mind-body technique with an origin in sound medical research, and as a result, it benefits from a solid theoretical foundation that explains how and why it works. This unique book effectively combines research, theory, and practice perspectives so that practitioners, instructors, and students can benefit from its content without having to rely on other texts and treatment manuals for clarification and guidance. Autogenic Training: A Mind-Body Approach to the Treatment of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome is divided into three sections. The first brings you: an exploration of the connection between stress and chronic pain a comprehensive overview of the literature on fibromyalgia scientifically supported stress management techniques The second section: reviews the history of autogenic training discusses the requirements that must be fulfilled for the effective use of autogenic techniques in clinical practice The third section of Autogenic Training: A Mind-Body Approach to the Treatment of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome consists of a detailed, step-by-step manual for autogenic training. Each “training session” concludes with an actual case presentation that illustrates the use of autogenic training in the treatment of a variety of psychophysiological (mind-body) conditions. This section also features a chapter dedicated to the most commonly asked questions about autogenic training and their answers. In addition to providing excellent reading material for clinical treatment, Autogenic Training: A Mind-Body Approach to the Treatment of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome can be effectively used as a textbook for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology, nursing, and medicine.

Book The Restless Compendium

Download or read book The Restless Compendium written by Felicity Callard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY license. This interdisciplinary book contains 22 essays and interventions on rest and restlessness, silence and noise, relaxation and work. It draws together approaches from artists, literary scholars, psychologists, activists, historians, geographers and sociologists who challenge assumptions about how rest operates across mind, bodies, and practices. Rest’s presence or absence affects everyone. Nevertheless, defining rest is problematic: both its meaning and what it feels like are affected by many socio-political, economic and cultural factors. The authors open up unexplored corners and experimental pathways into this complex topic, with contributions ranging from investigations of daydreaming and mindwandering, through histories of therapeutic relaxation and laziness, and creative-critical pieces on lullabies and the Sabbath, to experimental methods to measure aircraft noise and track somatic vigilance in urban space. The essays are grouped by scale of enquiry, into mind, body and practice, allowing readers to draw new connections across apparently distinct phenomena. The book will be of interest to students and scholars across a range of disciplines in the social sciences, life sciences, arts and humanities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biofeedback training is a research methodology and training procedure through which people can learn voluntary control over their internal physiological systems. It is a merger of mUltiple disciplines with interest deriving from many sources-from basic understanding of psychophysiology to a desire for enhanced self-awareness. The goals of biofeedback are to develop an increased awareness of relevant internal physiological functions, to establish control over these functions, to generalize control from an experimental or clinical setting to everyday life, and to focus attention on mind/body integration. Biofeedback is explored in many different settings. In the university, biofeed back equipment and applications can be found in the departments of experi mental and clinical psychology, counseling, physiology, biology, education, and the theater arts, as well as in the health service (student infirmary). Outside the university, biofeedback may be found in different departments of hospitals (such as physical medicine), private clinics, education and self-awareness groups, psychotherapy practices, and elsewhere. Its growth is still expanding, and excite ment is still rising as a result of biofeedback's demonstration that autonomic functions can be brought under voluntary control and that the long-standing arti ficial separation between mind, body, and consciousness can be disproven.
