Book Introduction to Rural Sociology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Introduction to Rural Sociology Classic Reprint written by Paul Leroy Vogt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Rural Sociology The practical value of modern attempts to reduce the laws of social organization to a scientific basis has been so thor oughly demonstrated that it no longer needs discussion. Inter est in problems of social organization and effort to understand and solve them have continued to increase as recognition of the value of such effort has grown. Such applied problems as those of the causes and relief of poverty, the adjustment of labor conditions, the equitable distribution of wealth, the social control of the growth of cities and the administration of ai fairs oi state in the larger units, have long received attention. The more recent interest in problems of rural and village life is but an expression of the broadening social point of view, and of the recognition of the fact that human society is, so far as the modern world is concerned, a unity, and that an under standing of rural problems is not only necessary for the sake of the country community but is also necessary as a basis for the explanation of many urban social problems. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Readings in Rural Sociology The rapid introduction during the past ten years of courses in rural sociology in universities, colleges, normal schools and other institutions engaged in the preparation of young men and women for the rural field has prepared the way for a book of readings in this subject that may be used as a text for an introductory course. Much of the material included in this book has been used with college classes in this institution and with classes of teachers in normal schools and in university summer courses. In the selection of the material it has seemed best to draw upon the writings of men and women whose long experience or professional standing entitles them to speak with some degree of authority. Book Rural Sociology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Rural Sociology Classic Reprint written by Lowry Nelson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-01-13 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rural Sociology Since the first edition Of this book was published in 1948, the world has seen the results of World War II and of its aftermath, the Cold War, made manifest in human affairs. These events have had a serious impact upon rural life in the United States. In the main, the result has been to accelerate the rate of social change. All aspects Of life, material and non material, seem to have been affected. The advances in agricultural technology have never been equaled in a comparable period in American history. For example, electricity has been brought to nearly all the farms of the nation for the first time as late as 1935, only one in ten farms was served from a central electric generator. Farm production has steadily mounted, while the number of farms has steadily declined. The farm population has become thinner. Tractors have largely replaced horses; and the ingenious machines associated with the tractor have so reduced the need for human labor that migration from farms to cities, towns, and villages has become a Spectacle rivaling the enclosures in Britain in the early stages of the Industrial Revolution. These changes have affected the social relations of rural people. The institutions Of education, religion, government, and family have had important adjustments to make. Even so, the full effects of this New Industrial Revolution in agriculture have not been fully experienced and understood. More changes are yet to come. In this revision, the author has introduced facts to indicate the re markable changes that have taken place during the past decade and a half. Since the changes are still in process, it is impossible to do more than indicate the trends and suggest directions. Book Constructive Rural Sociology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Constructive Rural Sociology Classic Reprint written by John M. Gillette and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Constructive Rural Sociology Rural conditions are attracting widespread attention. Numerous articles and volumes dealing with country-life matters have appeared during the past few years. While many of the books issued are exceedingly useful hardly any of them could be considered a rural sociology. To consider together the various phases of the life of the rural com munity and so to organise and present them that they shall convey a knowledge and appreciation of the problems of country life is surely a useful undertaking. The present modest volume is an attempt to do this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Brief Course in Rural Economics and Rural Sociology Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Brief Course in Rural Economics and Rural Sociology Classic Reprint written by John Phelan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Brief Course in Rural Economics and Rural Sociology The cordial reception given the first edition of this little book has made a second edition necessary. Some changes, which in the light of class room use seemed advisable have been made. Many topics have been treated more fully, a few that were not in the first edition have been included, and a few others have been omitted entirely. A course of study adapted 7 to eighth grade pupils in rural schools has been added. In mak ing use of this course of study in a rural school it is suggested that the topics be taken up in connection with the work in his tory, civics, geography, etc. This book is intended as an introduction to the study of rural economics and rural sociology. It has been prepared to meet the needs of rural teachers and pupils in rural schools. In no sense is it a scientific treatise. It will have served its purpose if it leads its readers to a further study of the great movements making for the betterment of country life. Book Readings in Rural Sociology

Download or read book Readings in Rural Sociology written by John Phelan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 650 pages. I have assumed that an introductory course in rural sociology should endeavor: first, to develop a broad, sympathetic understanding of the real needs and actual conditions of farm and community life in the United States; second, to lead students to appreciate the relationship between life and labor, wealth and welfare on the farm, since farming is not only an occupation but also a mode of life; third, to show as concretely as possible the unity of interest of rural and urban groups based on the fact that the farm supplies the city not only with food but also with a large proportion of its population, thus making necessary a sound rural life as the condition for the development of a permanent industrial democracy; fourth, to interest students in taking an active part in the work of those agencies that make for better conditions on American farms and in American rural communication; fifth, to endeavor to prevent students from making that most common of all errors - the undervaluation of the farmer's own judgment of what is best for himself. Grateful acknowledgment is here made to the authors and publishers for their generous contributions and unfailing courtesy. Their names appear from page to page.
