Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges and opportunities facing the Nigerian youths demand rethinking of new ways of doing things. Youth unemployment and underemployment are at a record high. More than ever, the Nigerian youths are in dire need of finding other avenues to explore in pursuit of life endeavors. Youth employment, underemployment, and unemployment are serious concerns for our society, civilization, and the nation. Their model presents insight on how a paradigm shift among the youths and the society in general from job search to business development may well lead to entrepreneurs and self-productive citizens. The authors hope to inspire, inform, and encourage todays youths to become tomorrows entrepreneurs, leaders, and good citizens. Making the transition from seeking employment, unemployment, or underemployment to self-employment/entrepreneurship is the primary purpose of this book. The topics include the following: Conquering personal and cultural roadblocks to entrepreneurship Shifting mental and physical focus from employee to employer Avoiding common pitfalls in starting and running a sustainable small business Making the best out of being a youth The authors urge the Nigerian youths to avoid falling into a victim mentality and start their paradigm shift into the mindsets of entrepreneurs.

Book Youth Unemployment and Society

Download or read book Youth Unemployment and Society written by Anne C. Petersen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As societies become more technically advanced and jobs require more expertise, young people are forced into a prolonged state of social marginality. Employment during adolescence could provide significant experiences for growth into later work roles, but most societies are not equipped to provide adolescents with meaningful work experience. In Youth Unemployment and Society, a group of historians, psychologists, economists and sociologists provide a cross-national examination of trends in youth unemployment and intervention strategies in the United States and Europe. Assessing the causes of aggregate societal unemployment rates, the authors address factors that make individuals more vulnerable to unemployment and consider the developmental consequences of this experience. The volume also examines how persistently high rates of youth unemployment affect society's values, beliefs, and institutions.

Book The Effect of Youth Unemployment on Quality Education in Nigeria A Critical View of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State

Download or read book The Effect of Youth Unemployment on Quality Education in Nigeria A Critical View of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State written by Opeyemi Olawe and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-05-10 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Sociology - Work, Profession, Education, Organisation, grade: A, , course: English, language: English, abstract: Unemployment has remained a contentious cog in the development of Nigeria as a nation. With the increasing turnout of graduates yearly from Tertiary Institutions, many graduates have remained unemployed and underemployed for a long period. This, no doubt, does not only affect national development but also continue to militate against the quality of education in Nigeria. This study is carried out to examine the effects of unemployment on the quality of education in Nigeria. It investigates the impact of unemployment on the attitude, perception and disposition of students towards education; how this attitude and perception affect the productivity of students and its overall impact on the quality of education. A self-structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from 105 respondents randomly selected from corps members, graduates, undergraduates, primary school teachers, secondary school teachers and college of Education lecturers from Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti state. The study revealed that unemployment has discouraged majority of the students to be serious with academic activities which hinders their creative imagination and enhances criminal activities in schools. Most students are crazy to have certificates they cannot defend. This study, therefore, recommends the need to reposition education towards developing the creative skills of students and re-orientation of students on the essence of education as a means of widening their horizon so that they can make use of opportunities around rather than expecting automatic ticket to white collar jobs which are not readily available.

Book Addressing Youth Unemployment Underemployment and Poverty in Nigeria

Download or read book Addressing Youth Unemployment Underemployment and Poverty in Nigeria written by Victor E. Dike and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While addressing the recent convocation ceremony of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, the Minister of Education, Sam Egwu, assured the millions of unemployed and poor youth lacking employability skills that technical education would enjoy more government support in 2010 because of the role of technology in national development. Such a pronouncement is not new in Nigeria. Previous administrations have raised the people's hope by painting glowing pictures of their development plans and defined the linkages between technological capability and national development. They also swore that youth empowerment would become the government's top priority yet successive administrations have refused to properly fund education and failed to prepare the youth for the world of work and to create employment for the millions of graduates churn out by the educational institutions yearly. This paper calls for the leaders to move away from rhetoric to action and tackle the challenges facing education, particularly technological development and create employment for the horde of unemployed youth. Without addressing the challenges facing technical and vocational education the youth will continue to face soaring unemployment, underemployment and poverty and the nation will remain underdeveloped.

Book excerpt: In Nigeria, achieving a substantial reduction in youth unemployment and poverty is an attainable goal if the government steps up to the challenge and creates a conducive environment for small businesses to prosper. This book utilizes a convergent mixed-methods design to explore how entrepreneurship can be leveraged to address the pressing issues of youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. The study employs the theory of planned behavior as its theoretical framework, which posits that young people's inclination towards entrepreneurship depends on their attitude towards it, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral controls. To examine the factors influencing the entrepreneurial intentions of young Nigerians, the research collected quantitative data from 447 graduating students at a federal university in Southern Nigeria. The study employed the structural equation modeling partial least squares (SEM-PLS) procedure to analyze the data and test hypotheses. The findings reveal a significant relationship between the attitude towards entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial intentions of Nigerian students (ß=0.632, t=6.298, p

Book Empowered Youths Drivers of Nigeria s Socio Economic Growth and Development

Download or read book Empowered Youths Drivers of Nigeria s Socio Economic Growth and Development written by Douye Victor and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2019 in the subject African Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, , language: English, abstract: The popular Aphorism; ‘Black is not synonymous to lack” is constantly brought to check every time the media reveals disheartening news and clips of poverty-ravaged places in Nigeria. Like it or not, current statistics globally relates the black race to skyrocketing levels of wants and poverty. It is forever bewildering when the stats are brought up and a country such as Nigeria- the supposed giant of Africa sits amidst nations perishing in the loosed hands of poverty. It is more perplexing when the resources in the country are taken into consideration. Consisting of virtually all kinds of raw materials capable of changing the socio-economic phase of her people, it is distasteful that a large set of Nigerians live in abject poverty. In a bid to counter the problem at hand, some ‘well-Meaning-Nigerians’ has proffered that the wretched climate of the nation is attributed to the fact that the nation is barely young when compared to other civilizations and hence must not be viewed on a parallel basis. This statement however, is not entirely true as it will spell folly on the nation if we wait to be over Three hundred (300) years before expecting significant change. In my own outlook, we stand a better chance than any nation in the world today. We have the experiences of these nations to learn from, a bountiful land arguably the most blessed in terms of mineral and agricultural resources, and above all, a whooping youthful population capable of rejuvenating the socio-economic facade of the nation. For a country having all it takes to be a major world power, it is typical to wonder why her current status quo says otherwise. It is not with all the acumen in the world if the issues constraining her socio-economic redundancy is attributed to a direct negligence to the Nigerian youth. The youth remains the active set of individuals and thereby responsible for nation building. I consider the Nigerian youth as a fragile bomb. If handled carefully, they possess the prowess to deliver the nation into victory over her socio-economic hurdles. Likewise, neglect will spell catastrophe on the socio-economic development of the nation as they find solace in antisocial vices.

Book Delving deeper into the agricultural transformation and youth employment nexus

Download or read book Delving deeper into the agricultural transformation and youth employment nexus written by Adesugba, Margaret Abiodun and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth employment is not an entirely new topic for research and policy. Recent estimates from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) (2013a) suggest that high and rising unemployment rates among youth remain a key challenge to global development, especially in the developing world. This is particularly important in sub-Saharan Africa where about 85 percent of youth (defined by the ILO as all those between the ages of 15 and 24 years) are poor, 70 percent live in rural areas where agriculture is the main source for their income and subsistence, and 11 million youth are expected to enter the labor market every year for the next decade (World Bank 2014). These characteristics of youth in sub-Saharan Africa justify the centrality of the nexus between youth employment and agriculture in formulating development policy on the continent. At the same time, youth unemployment is currently one of the issues receiving attention at the top of the global development agenda.

Book Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Innovation and Entrepreneurship written by Peter Drucker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can management be developed to create the greatest wealth for society as a whole? This is the question Peter Drucker sets out to answer in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. A brilliant, mould-breaking attack on management orthodoxy it is one of Drucker’s most important books, offering an excellent overview of some of his main ideas. He argues that what defines an entrepreneur is their attitude to change: ‘the entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it and exploits it as an opportunity’. To exploit change, according to Drucker, is to innovate. Stressing the importance of low-tech entrepreneurship, the challenge of balancing technological possibilities with limited resources, and the organisation as a learning organism, he concludes with a vision of an entrepreneurial society where individuals increasingly take responsibility for their own learning and careers.
