Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Inorganic Chemistry: With 82 Engravings on Wood When the chemical instruction in schools or elementary science classes has, of necessity, to be conducted by lectures only, this little book will, when placed in the hands of the pupils, also form a useful companion and guide for private study. The final chapter contains a brief summary of all the previous experimental facts, Classified under four chemical changes, a summary which, I trust, will recommend itself to the practical teacher. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Inorganic Chemistry I have endeavoured to obviate many of these difficulties, while still making the periodic system the foundation upon which this little book is based, by dividing the book into three parts. Part I. Contains a brief sketch of the funda mental principles and theories upon which the science' of modern chemistry is built. Into this portion of the book I have introduced, necessarily in briefest outlines, some of the more recent developments of the science in a physico-chemical direction, of which it is desirable that the student should gain some knowledge, even early in his career. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Chemical Preparations: A Guide in the Practical Teaching of Inorganic Chemistry In the choice of the preparations, care was taken to present to the student many fundamentally differ ent reactions. The author trusts to have done justice to the economy of the laboratory by starting, as far as possible, with cheap or valueless materials; for example, the residues of all sorts accumulated in every laboratory, or the by-products from other prepara tions. The finished preparations are, on the other hand, for the most part substances which are con tinually used in the laboratory in analytical and syn thetical processes, but which are either not generally found in the market or else not obtainable in a suf ficiently pure state. Book Elements of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elements of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Harry C. Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Inorganic Chemistry The physical properties Of substances are treated rather more fully than in the earlier text-books, since the tendency today, introduced by physical chemistry, is to bring chemistry and physics more closely together, rather than to separate them as two distinct sciences. The physical properties Of a substance are taken up after its chemical properties, in order that the teacher may conveniently omit more or less Of this part of the text if the pupil is not sufficiently advanced to properly appreciate its meaning. The experiments are placed at the ends of chapters rather than in the body of the text or at the end of the book. By this means the text is made continuous and more readable. Download or read book A System of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Sir William Ramsay and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A System of Inorganic Chemistry The physical aspects of chemistry have generally been kept in the background, and introduced only when necessary to explain modern theories. I hold that a student should have a fair knowledge of a wide range of facts before he proceeds to the study of physical chemistry, which, indeed, is a science in itself. But short tables of the more important physical properties of elements, and of the simpler com pounds, have been introduced for purposes of reference. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inorganic Chemistry: Theoretical and Practical; With an Introduction to the Principles of Chemical Analysis, Inorganic and OrganicAs a consequence of these alterations it became absolutely necessary that a text-book for the use of students of classes connected with the Science and Art Department should include the whole of the subject-matter indicated in this recent addition to the syllabus. In order to attain this end I have carefully te-written the whole book, and, disturbing the original plan as little as possible, have incorporated with it any additional matter required to make it fully meet the requirements of both students and teachers. A number of additional questions have been added to those given at the end of the book. In particular, greater attention is given to the exercises on chemical calculations a number of typical examples are selected and worked out in detail, in order to illustrate the prin ciples involved. In this edition the paragraphs are num bered and have side headings. The more important statements and definitions are printed in bolder type. These modifications will, I hope, be of assistance to the student.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book An Introduction to the Study of the Compounds of Carbon Or Organic Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Introduction to the Study of the Compounds of Carbon Or Organic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Ira Remsen and published by . This book was released on 2016-07-19 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Study of the Compounds of Carbon, or Organic Chemistry It hence appears that the formation of the compounds of car bon is not dependent upon the life process; that they are simply chemical compounds governed by the same laws that govern other chemical compounds; and the name, Organic Chemistry, signifying, as it does, that the compounds included under it are necessarily related to the organism, is misleading. Organic chemistry is nothing but the Chemistry of the C om pounds of C ar bon. It is not a science independent of inorganic chemistry, but is just as much a part of chemistry as the chemistry of the compounds of sodium, or of the compounds of silicon, etc. The name Chemistry of the Compounds of Carbon has been objected to as being too broad. Strictly Speaking, this title includes the carbonates, and it is customary to treat of these widely distributed substances under the head of Inorganic Chemistry. Most books on Inorganic Chemistry also deal with some of the simpler compounds of carbon, such as the oxides, cyanogen, marsh gas, etc., because they are of such common occurrence and so important that it is essential that the student should have a knowledge of them as soon as possible. Book Historical Introduction to Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Historical Introduction to Chemistry Classic Reprint written by T. Martin Lowry and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Historical Introduction to Chemistry IN the preparation of this volume the purpose has been to present an historical account of the more important facts and theories of chemistry, as these disclosed themselves to the original workers in this branch of science. No attempt has been made to write a formal History of Chemistry, either as a survey of the various periods into which the history of the science may be divided, or in the more usual biographical form. The material has been classified by subjects rather than by authors; but it will be found that under this system the work of individual experimenters is described quite as fully as in a biographical survey, whilst in the case of certain chemists, such as Priestley, Lavoisier and gay-lussac, it has been possible to include detailed descriptions of experimental work which could scarcely have found a place in a brief biography. The Biographical Index provides a key to the work of each author as it is described in the text, and contains most of the essential items for an account in narrative form of the achievements of the great pioneers of chemistry. Download or read book Introduction to the Study of Organic Chemistry written by Henry Edward Armstrong and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to the Study of Organic Chemistry: The Chemistry of Carbon and Its Compounds Chemistry being defined as the study of the nature and properties of the various elements; of the laws according to which these elements enter into combination with each other and of the nature and properties of the compounds formed by their union 3 organic chemistry may be generally defined as the chemistry of carbon and its compounds, since carbon is the one essential element in all organic com pounds. The separation of chemical science into the two branches of inorganic and organic chemistry is in reality arbitrary, but it is convenient, simply on account of the enormous number, and special importance, of the compounds in cluded in the latter division 5 not that they are in any way subject to different laws from those which govern inorganic compounds.
