Book Understanding Human Anatomy and Pathology

Download or read book Understanding Human Anatomy and Pathology written by Rui Diogo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Human Anatomy and Pathology: An Evolutionary and Developmental Guide for Medical Students provides medical students with a much easier and more comprehensive way to learn and understand human gross anatomy by combining state-of-the-art knowledge about human anatomy, evolution, development, and pathology in one book. The book adds evolutionary, pathological, and developmental information in a way that reduces the difficulty and total time spent learning gross anatomy by making learning more logical and systematic. It also synthesizes data that would normally be available for students only by consulting several books at a time. Anatomical illustrations are carefully selected to follow the style of those seen in human anatomical atlases but are simpler in their overall configuration, making them easier to understand without overwhelming students with visual information. The book’s organization is also more versatile than most human anatomy texts so that students can refer to different sections according to their own learning styles. Because it is relatively short in length and easily transportable, students can take this invaluable book anywhere and use it to understand most of the structures they need to learn for any gross anatomy course.

Book Handbook of Muscle Variations and Anomalies in Humans

Download or read book Handbook of Muscle Variations and Anomalies in Humans written by Eve K. Boyle and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most textbooks and atlases of human anatomy describe only a few cases of variations in the 'normal' human population, or of anomalies of the muscles. These variations and anomalies are also often excluded from the curricula in colleges of medicine and dentistry in the U.S.A. and in many other countries. However, it is known that each person within the 'normal' population has at least a few muscle variations, and there are millions of individuals born globally every year with muscle anomalies. It is highly likely that during their careers, almost all medical professionals working with any aspect related to muscles - including muscle physiology, gross anatomy, physiotherapy, surgery - will be faced with at least a few cases of muscle variations and/or anomalies. There are therefore crucial gaps of knowledge between what teachers of medical and dentistry schools teach, what students learn, what textbooks and atlases show, and the reality that medical professionals will face in practice during their careers. This is the first textbook and anatomical atlas to address this topic in a holistic way by: 1) providing a comparative evolutionary context for the existence of variations and defects in humans, 2) summarizing the major types of variations and anomalies found in the skeletal muscles of humans, and 3) including schematic figures for an easy visualization of these variations and anomalies. The book is therefore of interest to students, instructors, professors, researchers from fields such as biological anthropology, comparative anatomy, functional morphology, zoology, and evolutionary and developmental biology, and health practitioners. Book Gross Anatomy

  • Author : Mara Altman
  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2019-08-06
  • ISBN : 0399574840
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book Gross Anatomy written by Mara Altman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The timely, funny and deeply relatable essay collection that celebrates the wonder of the human body and introduces Mara Altman as the love child of Mindy Kaling and Mary Roach. Mara Altman's volatile and apprehensive relationship with her body has led her to wonder about a lot of stuff over the years. Like, who decided that women shouldn't have body hair? And how sweaty is too sweaty? Also, why is breast cleavage sexy but camel toe revolting? Isn't it all just cleavage? These questions and others like them have led to the comforting and sometimes smelly revelations that constitute Gross Anatomy, an essay collection about what it's like to operate the bags of meat we call our bodies. Divided into two sections, "The Top Half" and "The Bottom Half," with cartoons scattered throughout, Altman's book takes the reader on a wild and relatable journey from head to toe--as she attempts to strike up a peace accord with our grody bits. With a combination of personal anecdotes and fascinating research, Gross Anatomy holds up a magnifying glass to our beliefs, practices, biases, and body parts and shows us the naked truth: that there is greatness in our grossness.

Book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment

Download or read book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-07-12 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers two programs that provide disability benefits: the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. SSDI provides disability benefits to people (under the full retirement age) who are no longer able to work because of a disabling medical condition. SSI provides income assistance for disabled, blind, and aged people who have limited income and resources regardless of their prior participation in the labor force. Both programs share a common disability determination process administered by SSA and state agencies as well as a common definition of disability for adults: "the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Disabled workers might receive either SSDI benefits or SSI payments, or both, depending on their recent work history and current income and assets. Disabled workers might also receive benefits from other public programs such as workers' compensation, which insures against work-related illness or injuries occurring on the job, but those other programs have their own definitions and eligibility criteria. Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment identifies and defines the professionally accepted, standard measurements of outcomes improvement for medical conditions. This report also identifies specific, long-lasting medical conditions for adults in the categories of mental health disorders, cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders. Specifically, these conditions are disabling for a length of time, but typically don't result in permanently disabling limitations; are responsive to treatment; and after a specific length of time of treatment, improve to the point at which the conditions are no longer disabling.
