At that time I had not even thought of the beauty of a miniature garden, in your interior, as a part of the design of your living room. That was because I was so used, to living in places where I had huge outdoor gardens, so bringing in the plants indoors was not something of which I had thought! Later on, living in cities, and apartments, where the nearest outdoor garden was 25 stories below, and just one tiny patch of green, in a concrete jungle, I began to think that yes miniature gardens was one of the best ways in which I could bring a bit of greenery right inside my limited pigeonholed letterbox of a living space.

After the normal usual topics had been exhausted – children, grandchildren, budget, finances, best places to invest hard earned money and so on and so forth, it was natural that they came out with their own views on gardening, bottle gardens, dish gardens, miniature gardens, terrariums, cactus gardens, outdoor plants, I had to smile ruefully to myself. They had begun again! And they would continue talking about this absorbing subject rental their wives came to pull them away from their group and have something to eat. For a newbie who does not know much about gardening, or has just begun to take an interesting look at plant life growing around him, such a discussion is going to be interesting only if he has any interest in it. This book is only for those people who have either begun to take an interest in gardening, or are looking for the latest – the word latest is an euphemism for age old common sense traditions and procedures which have been in existence for millenniums all over the world, but every new gardener who has discovered it considers it to be the best thing and latest thing and most wonderful thing after sliced bread. Forgetting that bread was sliced in ancient Greece and Rome, with metal wires where today we use serrated blades…
Download or read book One Book Five Ways written by Association of American University Presses and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1994-05-02 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A testament to the ingenuity of scholarly presses, One Book/Five Ways is a fascinating experiment in comparative publishing. This book records the history of a single manuscript, entitled No Time for Houseplants, submitted to five different university presses—Chicago, MIT, North Carolina, Texas, and Toronto—and then actually published by the University of Oklahoma Press. Each of the five model publishers agreed to treat the book as a real project accepted for publication and to compile a log of procedures they followed. These logs include correspondence, budgets, forms, layouts, and specifications, providing an insider's look at the path a manuscript takes through the various departments of each press, from editorial to marketing. With a new Foreword discussing changes in publishing since 1978 and an Afterword commenting on the actual publication of No Time for Houseplants, One Book/Five Ways is a unique educational tool for anyone interested in the publishing process.
