Download or read book la rencontre du cin ma fran ais written by Robert J. Berg and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: À la rencontre du cinéma français: analyse, genre, histoire is intended to serve as the core textbook in a wide variety of upper-level undergraduate and graduate French cinema courses. In contrast to content-, theme-, or issue-based approaches to film, Professor Berg stresses “the cinematically specific, the warp and fabric of the film itself, the stuff of which it is made.” Sufficient proficiency in French is the sole prerequisite: “No previous background in film studies is assumed, nor is any prior acquaintance with French cinema. It will help, of course, to like movies, and to have seen quite a few…” (from the preface).

Download or read book Contemporary France written by D. L. Hanley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-17 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many recent studies of French politics have tended to concentrate on the French political system in isolation. Contemporary France aims to set the working of the French political system into its historical, social and economic context. The first section gives a succinct description of the main developments since 1944 in all major contexts - economy, society, domestic politics and foreign relations. The authors then analyse the economic, social and cultural structures of present-day France, and discuss the institutional framework of decision-making and the major political forces involved in it. There are also chapters on French external and defence policy and on the education system, all of which are set in the context of the political system as a whole. Aimed primarily at students of European history and politics or of French society and culture, the book assumes little knowledge in the social sciences and will be readily accessible to beginners in this field.

This book was released on 2017-11-23T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Sociolinguistic Variation in Contemporary French

Download or read book Sociolinguistic Variation in Contemporary French written by Kate Beeching and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divided into three main sections on Phonology, Syntax and Semantics, this new volume on variation in French aims to provide a snapshot of the state of sociolinguistic research inside and outside metropolitan France. From a diatopic perspective, varieties in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa and Canada are considered, mainly with respect to phonological features but also focusing on syntactic and lexical evolutions (the relative clause in Ivorian French and discourse markers in Canadian French). The acquisition of stylistic features of French figures in chapters on both first and second language learners and variation across different genres is addressed with respect to non-standard non-finite forms. Finally, a section on semantic change traces the way that interactional and other socio-historical factors affect word meaning. The volume will appeal to (socio-)linguists with an interest in contemporary French as well as to advanced undergraduates and post-graduate students of French and specialists in the field.
