Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Golf is a disease, not a game. Especially when you take the game up in your fifties, as I did. After a series of injuries stopped my recreational tennis play, and my retirement from a lifetime of coaching and teaching tennis, I tried golf. It didn't take long to realize it was not an easy endeavor. Someone said, "You can't learn anything from a golf book, but you have to read a lot of golf books to find that out!" I found the gurus of golf instruction: Ledbetter, Pelz, and Hogan, who was said to have written the book with the secret! I did find one that really attracted me but in a somewhat different way.
Download or read book The Inner Game of Tennis written by W. Timothy Gallwey and published by Random House Trade Paperbacks. This book was released on 1997-05-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The timeless guide to achieving the state of “relaxed concentration” that’s not only the key to peak performance in tennis but the secret to success in life itself—now in a 50th anniversary edition with an updated epilogue, a foreword by Bill Gates, and an updated preface from NFL coach Pete Carroll “Groundbreaking . . . the best guide to getting out of your own way . . . Its profound advice applies to many other parts of life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes (“Five of My All-Time Favorite Books”) This phenomenally successful guide to mastering the game from the inside out has become a touchstone for hundreds of thousands of people. Billie Jean King has called the book her tennis bible; Al Gore has used it to focus his campaign staff; and Itzhak Perlman has recommended it to young violinists. Based on W. Timothy Gallwey’s profound realization that the key to success doesn’t lie in holding the racket just right, or positioning the feet perfectly, but rather in keeping the mind uncluttered, this transformative book gives you the tools to unlock the potential that you’ve possessed all along. “The Inner Game” is the one played within the mind of the player, against the hurdles of self-doubt, nervousness, and lapses in concentration. Gallwey shows us how to overcome these obstacles by trusting the intuitive wisdom of our bodies and achieving a state of “relaxed concentration.” With chapters devoted to trusting the self and changing habits, it is no surprise then, that Gallwey’s method has had an impact far beyond the confines of the tennis court. Whether you want to play music, write a novel, get ahead at work, or simply unwind after a stressful day, Gallwey shows you how to tap into your utmost potential. In this fiftieth-anniversary edition, the principles of the Inner Game shine through as more relevant today than ever before. No matter your goals, The Inner Game of Tennis gives you the definitive framework for long-term success.

Download or read book Anima written by Pierce Kelley and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book I provide my answers to the questions which mankind has asked since the beginning of time: Is there a God? Is there a heaven? Is there an after-life? Do we reincarnate? Do we have an eternal soul? What is a “soul”? After 75 years of life as a lawyer, professor, author, professional athlete, father, husband, brother and friend to many, I have had innumerable experiences, just as every other mature adult has. I have traveled extensively, seen much and done much. I think it is my duty, and responsibility, to share my thoughts on such matters. I know full-well that no one knows, for certain, what those answers are, and probably never will. Regardless, I think every man and woman must examine their lives, and be ready to answer such questions if there is, in fact, a “God” to whom we must provide such answers. As Socrates said many centuries ago, an unexamined life is not worth leading. It is one thing to think about such things, and then to say them out loud, and quite another to put them down on paper for others to read and criticize. I am not trying to convince others that I am right and they are wrong. Again, as Socrates was reportedly quite fond of saying, I know nothing. I have examined my life and these are the conclusions I have reached.

Download or read book Children s Games in the New Media Age written by Chris Richards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of a unique research project exploring the relationship between children's vernacular play cultures and their media-based play, this collection challenges two popular misconceptions about children's play: that it is depleted or even dying out and that it is threatened by contemporary media such as television and computer games. A key element in the research was the digitization and analysis of Iona and Peter Opie's sound recordings of children's playground and street games from the 1970s and 1980s. This framed and enabled the research team's studies both of the Opies' documents of mid-twentieth-century play culture and, through a two-year ethnographic study of play and games in two primary school playgrounds, contemporary children's play cultures. In addition the research included the use of a prototype computer game to capture playground games and the making of a documentary film. Drawing on this extraordinary data set, the volume poses three questions: What do these hitherto unseen sources reveal about the games, songs and rhymes the Opies and others collected in the mid-twentieth century? What has happened to these vernacular forms? How are the forms of vernacular play that are transmitted in playgrounds, homes and streets transfigured in the new media age? In addressing these questions, the contributors reflect on the changing face of childhood in the twenty-first century - in relation to questions of gender and power and with attention to the children's own participation in producing the ethnographic record of their lives.

Download or read book Whening Tennis written by Larry Huebner and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whening Tennis: In Tennis, as in Life, Timing is Everything is an instructional book. It is unique in that it does not focus on the "how to" of playing the game as much as the "when to" for more tennis success. The author's primary focus on "when decisions" is an entirely new instructional approach for many aspects of the game. When a player learns to combine good "when" decisions with real effort to play the game to the best of their ability, regardless of the final score, winning has been achieved. Thus, Whening Tennis becomes winning tennis, the essence of the book. The subtitle, In Tennis, as in Life, Timing is Everything, emphasises the importance of "when" decisions and their crossover from tennis into life's experiences. "What a fantastic job Larry Huebner has done with his great publication, "WHENING TENNIS!" First, one would be hard pressed to find anyone more qualified to write about tennis than Larry - no one is more respected in the tennis world by people who know the game. Second, how refreshing it is to have something other than just a "How-to" book to help one understand and enjoy tennis more! Larry has done a fantastic job in selecting, simplifying and organizing his topics. Everything Larry writes about is relevant to today's game. I enthusiastically recommend this book for players of all abilities, as well as parents. ENJOY..." -Dick Gould, Coach of 17 NCAA Men's Championships Director of Tennis, Stanford University For more information try the website at www.w-tennis.com. or see the link to the student workbook Whening Tennis Student Workbook
