Book Intro to Meteorology Astronomy Teacher Guide

Download or read book Intro to Meteorology Astronomy Teacher Guide written by Michael Oard and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Meteorology and Astronomy Course Description This is the suggested course sequence that allows one core area of science to be studied per semester. You can change the sequence of the semesters per the needs or interests of your student; materials for each semester are independent of one another to allow flexibility. Semester 1: Meteorology The Earth was created to be the dwelling place of man. It is a complex world and its weather patterns affect our lives every day. Whether you live near the equator, a polar region, or somewhere in between, knowledge of the weather is important. The Weather Book will teach you: why our exact distance from the sun allows life on earth, how the weather on the other side of the earth affects you, how clouds form and how to identify the different types, what the difference is between a cold and warm front, why you can often see lightning long before you can hear thunder, how to build your own weather station, how to survive in dangerous weather, what the greenhouse effect and the ozone hole are, what Noah’s flood and the Ice Age have in common, how weatherpersons forecast hurricanes and tornadoes, how to read a weather map, and what our responsibility is to the environment. Learning about the weather is fun! It will change the way you look at the clouds in the sky. Now you’ll have more of an understanding about what is going on miles above your head. And when you hear a weather report on television, you will understand so much more about the world around you!. Semester 2: Astronomy One thing we have in common with the ancients is that all of the human race has gazed at the night sky, and the bright morning, and wondered, “What’s out there?” Our universe is so vast and awe-inspiring that to learn about it is to learn about ourselves. The Astronomy Book will teach you: what long-ago astronomers thought about other worlds, solar system facts, how constellations relate to astrology, the history of space exploration, black holes-do they exist?, the origin and age of the moon, why Mars doesn't support life, the composition of stars, supernova remnants, and the myth of star birth, asteroid legends and the extinction of the dinosaurs, are there planets outside our solar system, and could they be home to intelligent life?, what are UFOs?, and the age of comets and meteor showers. Learning about the universe is huge fun! In the almost infinite expanse above us, we can examine planets, galaxies, and phenomena so beautiful and complex that we never outgrow a childlike wonder. We see our own reflection in the moon, the stars, and in comet trails. The more we learn, the less we fear!

Book Theory of Planetary Atmospheres

Download or read book Theory of Planetary Atmospheres written by John Marshall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in atmospheric, oceanic, and climate science, Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Dynamics is an introductory textbook on the circulations of the atmosphere and ocean and their interaction, with an emphasis on global scales. It will give students a good grasp of what the atmosphere and oceans look like on the large-scale and why they look that way. The role of the oceans in climate and paleoclimate is also discussed. The combination of observations, theory and accompanying illustrative laboratory experiments sets this text apart by making it accessible to students with no prior training in meteorology or oceanography.* Written at a mathematical level that is appealing for undergraduates andbeginning graduate students* Provides a useful educational tool through a combination of observations andlaboratory demonstrations which can be viewed over the web* Contains instructions on how to reproduce the simple but informativelaboratory experiments* Includes copious problems (with sample answers) to help students learn thematerial.

Download or read book The Exo Weather Report written by David S. Stevenson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Stevenson’s new book links the meteorology of the Earth to that of other planets, stars, and clusters of galaxies, showing the similarities and differences between terrestrial weather and that of weather on other worlds. Because Earth is not unique in having weather, there is much to learn from other planets with atmospheres that show the movement of energy from hotter to colder areas. The weather seen on Earth and other known planetary systems are examined to elaborate the connection between climate and the development of life. The weather on Earth and other Solar System planets is a manifestation of the huge energy budget imparted by our star, the Sun, but weather doesn’t stop at the shores of our Solar System. The author brings together the latest information from satellites and probes, such as Cassini and Hubble, to show its larger place in the astronomical picture. Inferences are drawn about the weather and climate of a large number of other planetary systems that lie far from our own. Additionally, the author expands our understanding of what exactly weather is comprised of by exploring the kind of “weather” experienced on the largest observable scales in the universe.

Book Searching the Heavens and the Earth

Download or read book Searching the Heavens and the Earth written by Agustin UDIAS and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesuits established a large number of astronomical, geophysical and meteorological observatories during the 17th and 18th centuries and again during the 19th and 20th centuries throughout the world. The history of these observatories has never been published in a complete form. Many early European astronomical observatories were established in Jesuit colleges. During the 17th and 18th centuries Jesuits were the first western scientists to enter into contact with China and India. It was through them that western astronomy was first introduced in these countries. They made early astronomical observations in India and China and they directed for 150 years the Imperial Observatory of Beijing. In the 19th and 20th centuries a new set of observatories were established. Besides astronomy these now included meteorology and geophysics. Jesuits established some of the earliest observatories in Africa, South America and the Far East. Jesuit observatories constitute an often forgotten chapter of the history of these sciences.
