Book Health Promotion in School

Download or read book Health Promotion in School written by Antonio Iudici and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to the role of educating future citizens, schools today respond to other social needs, especially to help promote health. The school, in fact, is a unique place to intercept the ways of thinking of children, adolescents and young adults. Very often, however, the school attaches great social responsibility without adequate support to achieve it. From this comes the need to provide educational resources to the roles and responsibilities in order to address the issues that the company asks them to deal with and that the issues of health and education are anointed synergistically. The present work aims to create a link between the promotion of health and school, describing in the first part, the international reference standards, the various theoretical approaches that exist today, and the evolution of the various models of intervention: from the bio-medical to the bio-psycho-social to interactive-dialogical. The second part, after having carried out a historical analysis of some of the themes in the last decade which have resulted in a particularly difficult management of the school (smoking, bullying, delinquency, intercultural) presents some methodological guidelines designed to intervene at the operational level, for the benefit of school leaders, teachers, health workers, parents, psychologists and educators.

Book Immigrant Integration in Europe

Download or read book Immigrant Integration in Europe written by Angela Paparusso and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-08 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This topical book sheds light on immigrants’ subjective well-being by analysing the main factors associated with self-reported life satisfaction among immigrants and natives. It thereby draws upon subjective components of well-being, which are now receiving growing attention in well-being research. It also fills in a gap in migration research, which has not yet focused on the study of immigrants’ well-being. Starting from a broader focus on Europe, the book then looks more closely at Italy. This is a key country in the immigration policy field in Europe, but where the study of immigrants’ integration from a subjective perspective has been rarely addressed so far. The book provides suggestions for constructing and implementing immigration and integration policies by not only taking into account the needs of the host societies, but also the experiences, opinions, requirements and expectations of immigrants. This book is very useful for academic and policy researchers working on immigrant integration issues.

Download or read book Numbers and Nationhood written by Silvana Patriarca and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-12-18 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numbers and Nationhood, first published in 1996, explores the Italian inflection of a Europe-wide phenomenon in the nineteenth century: the rise of statistics as a mode of representation in society. Silvana Patriarca examines the ideologies which informed the copious statistical literature produced between the 1820s, when statistical publications began to proliferate in the Italian states, and the 1870s, when a unified Italy entered a fully positivistic era. Her innovative study illuminates the relationship between the needs of an emerging nation and the uses to which statistics were put, generating a long-lasting image of Italy which nevertheless accentuated its internal territorial divisions. By examining the power of numerical representations, Numbers and Nationhood provides a fresh reading of the historiography of Risorgimento Italy and of positivism, bringing to the fore issues of science, ideology, and representation.

Book Innovative Learning Models for Prisoners

Download or read book Innovative Learning Models for Prisoners written by Francesca Torlone and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-17 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prison education should be a top priority issue in most societies. Prison conditions must not infringe human rights and dignity and must offer meaningful treatment programmes in order to support inmates in their rehabilitation and reintegration in society. The use of ICTs within a penitentiary context plays a crucial role in that. The present Volume looks at the learning potential in prisons and reports on innovative (e-)learning pathways for basic skills education as designed and tested in Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Romania. Research investigated on what counts as ‘educational’ in such a complex context and how to combine relevant pieces in a ‘learning mosaic’ (the broad range of any learning opportunity across it). This Volume argues that such an approach may be adopted in a wider European perspective within the frame of dynamic security.

Book La devianza minorile forme di controllo e rapporto educativo dei servizi sociali con i minori

Download or read book La devianza minorile forme di controllo e rapporto educativo dei servizi sociali con i minori written by Domenica Loiacono and published by Passerino Editore. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Strangers at Our Door

Download or read book Strangers at Our Door written by Zygmunt Bauman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refugees from the violence of wars and the brutality of famished lives have knocked on other people's doors since the beginning of time. For the people behind the doors, these uninvited guests were always strangers, and strangers tend to generate fear and anxiety precisely because they are unknown. Today we find ourselves confronted with an extreme form of this historical dynamic, as our TV screens and newspapers are filled with accounts of a 'migration crisis', ostensibly overwhelming Europe and portending the collapse of our way of life. This anxious debate has given rise to a veritable 'moral panic' - a feeling of fear spreading among a large number of people that some evil threatens the well-being of society. In this short book Zygmunt Bauman analyses the origins, contours and impact of this moral panic - he dissects, in short, the present-day migration panic. He shows how politicians have exploited fears and anxieties that have become widespread, especially among those who have already lost so much - the disinherited and the poor. But he argues that the policy of mutual separation, of building walls rather than bridges, is misguided. It may bring some short-term reassurance but it is doomed to fail in the long run. We are faced with a crisis of humanity, and the only exit from this crisis is to recognize our growing interdependence as a species and to find new ways to live together in solidarity and cooperation, amidst strangers who may hold opinions and preferences different from our own.

Book The Power to Arrest

Download or read book The Power to Arrest written by Robin S. Engel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-06 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful volume examines key research questions concerning police decision to arrest as well as police-led diversion. The authors critically evaluate the tentative answers that empirical evidence provides to those questions, and suggest areas for future inquiry. Nearly seven decades of empirical study have provided extensive knowledge regarding police use of arrest. However, this research highlights important gaps in our understanding of factors that shape police decision-making and what is required to alter current police practice. Reviewing this research base, this brief takes stock of what is known empirically about all aspects related to the use of arrests, providing important insights on the knowledge needed to make evidence-based policy decisions moving forward. With the potential to better impact policy and programs for alternatives to arrest, this brief will appeal to researchers and practitioners in evidence-based policing and police decision-making, as well as those interested in alternatives to arrest and related fields such as public policy.
