Book Intersecting Art and Technology in Practice

Download or read book Intersecting Art and Technology in Practice written by Camille C Baker and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the artistic process, creativity and collaboration, and personal approaches to creation and ideation, in making digital and electronic technology-based art. Less interested in the outcome itself – the artefact, artwork or performance – contributors instead highlight the emotional, intellectual, intuitive, instinctive and step-by-step creation dimensions. They aim to shine a light on digital and electronic art practice, involving coding, electronic gadgetry and technology mixed with other forms of more established media, to uncover the practice-as-research processes required, as well as the collaborative aspects of art and technology practice.

Book excerpt: Rose Thompson set out for Tinkers Well, Kansas, with no expectations for anything but a quiet summer spent with her kind but outspoken grandmother during their visit to the home of Granny Gert's old school chum, the wealthy widow Aletha Mason. Raised in a quiet town with no real excitement, Rose had always longed for adventure yet had resigned herself to never actually experiencing any. But as luck would have it, she is unexpectedly swept into a fairy-tale romance with Simon, the personification of male perfection, volunteers to help with the resurrection of a decrepit but glorious old Victorian mansion, and develops surprisingly rich friendships with three army-veterans-turned-home-renovators. In the course of her exploits, she learns that blissful dreams aren't always what they seem and that faith in the reality of God's grace and purpose is richer and more rewarding than any fantasy.

Book Neuroscience at the Intersection of Mind and Brain

Download or read book Neuroscience at the Intersection of Mind and Brain written by Jack M. Gorman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuroscience, the study of the structure and function of the brain, has captured our imaginations. Breakthrough technologies permit neuroscientists to probe how the human brain works in ever-more fascinating detail, revealing what happens when we think, move, love, hate, and fear. We know more than ever before about what goes wrong in the brain when we develop psychiatric and neurological illnesses like depression, dementia, epilepsy, panic attacks, and schizophrenia. We also now have clues about how treatments for those disorders change the way our brains look and function. Neuroscience at the Intersection of Mind and Brain has three main purposes. First, it makes complicated concepts and findings in modern neuroscience accessible to anyone with an interest in how the brain works. Second, it explains in detail how every experience we have from the moment we are conceived changes our brains. Third, it advances the idea that psychotherapy is a type of life experience that alters brain function and corrects aberrant brain connections. Among the topics covered are: what makes our brains different from those of other primates, our nearest genetic neighbors? How do life's experiences affect genetic expression of the brain and the way neurons connect with each other? Why are connections between different parts of the brain important in both health and disease? What happens in the brains of animals and humans when we are suddenly afraid of something, get depressed, or fall in love? How do medications and psychotherapies work? The information in this book is based on cutting-edge research in neuroscience, psychiatry, and psychology. Written by an author who studied human behavior and brain function for three decades, it is presented in a highly accessible manner, full of personal anecdotes and observations, and touches on many of the controversies in contemporary mental health practice.

Book Sonatas Screams and Silence

Download or read book Sonatas Screams and Silence written by Alexis Luko and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonatas, Screams, and Silence: Music and Sound in the Films of Ingmar Bergman is the first musical examination of Bergman’s style as an auteur filmmaker. It provides a comprehensive examination of all three aspects (music, sound effects, and voice) of Bergman’s signature soundtrack-style. Through examinations of Bergman’s biographical links to music, the role of music, sound effects, silence, and voice, and Bergman’s working methods with sound technicians, mixers, and editors, this book argues that Bergman’s soundtracks are as superbly developed as his psychological narratives and breathtaking cinematography. Interdisciplinary in nature, this book bridges the fields of music, sound, and film.

Book excerpt: Intersection is a novel of Christian fiction. I would call it hard fiction because the subject matter is adult oriented. There are no apple-cheeked little children holding kittens in a field of daisies, only real people in realistic life situations where God influences some. There is family drama, tough dialogue, some violence, redemption, tears, and cheers. There is excitement and action, capped off by an ending that has the power to change a readers life. Such are the components of Intersection.

Book Dreams Beyond Time

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lee Irwin
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield

  • ISBN : 1793642621

Download or read book Dreams Beyond Time written by Lee Irwin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dreams Beyond Time: On Sacred Encounter and Spiritual Transformation offers readers an overview of dreams research as applied to non-ordinary dreams. Lee Irwin describes four basic types of dreaming: normative, mythic, psychic, and transpersonal, and he illustrates each type with specific dream examples. These types of dreaming are then used as a lens to look more closely at additional dream types that indicate dreaming as a process of creative discovery. Through virtual dreaming encounters, latent human potentials are revealed and suggest aspects for spiritual development based on dream recording, interpretation, and analysis. In turn this leads to a metaphysical description that is pan-sentient, illustrating a vivid, living universe of process-becoming in which certain dream types reveal mythic, psychic, and transpersonal capacities as intrinsic to a deeper more awakened sense of intersubjective self-awareness. While dream theories from many diverse authors are explored, the author uses an existential and phenomenological method to analyze dreaming contents in relationship to altered states of mind, trance, out of body and near-death experience, meditation, imagination, and stages of lucid self-awareness. Transpersonal dreams are given considerable attention in relationship to mystical traditions, paranormal research, and the comparative anthropology of self.

Book Intersecting Genre

Download or read book Intersecting Genre written by Jason Olsen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-10 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative writing takes on many genres, or forms: fiction, poetry, nonfiction and dramatic writing. Whilst all have their own principles and 'rules', all modes of writing overlap and borrow from each other, and so what you learn in one form can influence, inform and inspire your practice in others. Intersecting Genre holds this idea at its heart, embracing the dissolution of disciplinary and genre boundaries to discuss the ways each genre supports the others. Whilst traditional approaches typically discuss one genre independent of others, this book explores genre relationships with each chapter focusing on the intersection between 2 modes and what you can learn and the skills you can transfer by combining the wisdom gained from the study of, for example, fiction and poetry together. With most introductory creative writing courses aiming to apprise you of such mechanics of writing as narrative, pace, vocabulary, dialogue, imagery and viewpoint, Intersecting Genre is the ideal companion, offering a unique methodology that analyses these ideas as they feature across the different genres, thus giving you the ultimate, well-rounded introduction before you settle into the modes of writing that best suit you as your progress with your writing. Covering fiction, poetry, nonfiction, writing plays and screenwriting, and also taking stock of the forms that do not fit neatly into any genre silo, this book uses models, critical questions, writing warm-ups and writing practice exercises to give you a solid understanding of the points discussed and encouraging you to put them to practice in your own work. With the field of creative writing evolving constantly, and with approaches to teaching and learning the subject vast and continually expanding, this book offers a dynamic, and uniquely holistic method for developing your writing skills, asking you to deeply consider the issues, and possibilities, present in genre.

Book The Intersection of Fashion and Disability

Download or read book The Intersection of Fashion and Disability written by Kate Annett-Hitchcock and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-05 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the fashion industry has been well written as it relates to people who conform to certain physical norms and cultural stereotypes, whereas the inequality in access to the world of fashion has been largely ignored. Despite this lack of coverage, much work has taken place over the centuries to enable people who live with disability to participate in fashionable culture. This book tells that story via perspectives of notable historical figures, events and movements, and continues the discourse with a look at some of the contemporary developments in clothing and fashion. The Intersection of Fashion and Disability takes the long view, from early attempts to conceal 'unsightly' bodies of royalty and nobility via creative innovation through growing contemporary awareness of inclusive fashion and how future work can be driven by technology and cultural acceptance.
