Book Interreligious Dialogue and Popes Paul VI John Paul II and Benedict XVI

Download or read book Interreligious Dialogue and Popes Paul VI John Paul II and Benedict XVI written by J. Kuruvachira and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dialogue among religions is becoming indispensable for the promotion of peace in the world, and is envisaged as a way to find solutions to many of the tensions and conflicts existing in society. In the present epoch of tensions between religions and cultures, the subject of interreligious dialogue is particularly important, if not crucial. The Catholic Church, aware of these factors, especially since the Vatican Council II, has recognised the significance and indispensability of interreligious dialogue, and considers it as one of the ways to carry out her mission in the contemporary world. This study brings together in one volume the teachings of three Popes - Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI - on interreligious dialogue and their specific contributions and pastoral guidelines for its promotion. The sources used for the study are the official teachings of the three Popes which are found in their encyclical letters, apostolic exhortations, pastoral constitutions, homilies, catechesis during general audiences, and special addresses and messages. This book can serve as resource material for students who do basic and well as advanced courses in Catholic theology of religions and interreligious dialogue and for anyone interested in knowing about the teachings of the Popes on dialogue.

Book Vatican II and the concept of an interreligious dialogue Fact and fiction in the face of radical Islam

Download or read book Vatican II and the concept of an interreligious dialogue Fact and fiction in the face of radical Islam written by Matthias Dickert and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2023 in the subject Theology - Islamic theology, Leuven Catholic University, course: LEST XIV: 60 Years Vatican II: The End of the Western Church?, language: English, abstract: Vatican II and its progressive declaration of the Roman Catholic Church in dealing with other religions, "Nostra Aetate", meant a turning point for the traditional Christian – non Christian relationship. This traditionally mostly negative relationship between the Catholic Church and other religions was now radically discussed anew and put on another scale with the aim of an improvement between all religions. A special focus hereby was put on a new approach with Judaism and above all Islam. The history between Islam and Christianity for centuries was accompanied by political and religious conflicts and wars, which were marked by the notions of jihad and crusade. It was in this antagonistic atmosphere where the famous four "Cs" of the West (Conquest, Commerce, Civilization and Christianity) were followed by terrorism and fundamentalism on the Muslim side. Fundamental thinking, in fact, has not left the relationship between Islam and Christianity and the attitude to the West and Christianity in the Muslim world have turned to a more radical attitude since the Shah was overthrown in 1979 in Iran. One can take this date as the beginning of events such as 9/11, the Gulf Wars or the wars in Afghanistan and Syria where the Islamic State proclaimed a new and even more radical era between Islam and Christianity with the establishment of the caliphate, the geographical, political and religious expression of fundamental Islamic thinking. Things have not yet improved to the better since developments like globalization processes are presently challenging traditional religions with a tendency to fundamental thinking as the (seemingly) best adapted form of the religious in times of globalization and massive migration waves due to war, poverty, hunger or environment pollution. All these developments are constantly challenging the positive basis of an interreligious dialogue between Muslims and Christians, which during the last sixty years was marked by progress and regression on both sides alike.

Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Book The Long Shadow of Vatican II

Download or read book The Long Shadow of Vatican II written by Lucas Van Rompay and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the Second Vatican Council (1962–65), the Roman Catholic Church for the first time took a positive stance on modernity. Its impact on the thought, worship, and actions of Catholics worldwide was enormous. Benefiting from a half century of insights gained since Vatican II ended, this volume focuses squarely on the ongoing aftermath and reinterpretation of the Council in the twenty-first century. In five penetrating essays, contributors examine crucial issues at the heart of Catholic life and identity, primarily but not exclusively within North American contexts. On a broader level, the volume as a whole illuminates the effects of the radical changes made at Vatican II on the lived religion of everyday Catholics. As framed by volume editors Lucas Van Rompay, Sam Miglarese, and David Morgan, the book's long view of the church's gradual and often contentious transition into contemporary times profiles a church and laity who seem committed to many mutual values but feel that implementation of the changes agreed to in principle at the Council is far from accomplished. The election in 2013 of the charismatic Pope Francis has added yet another dimension to the search for the meaning of Vatican II. The contributors are Catherine E. Clifford, Hillary Kaell, Leo D. Lefebure, Jill Peterfeso, and Leslie Woodcock Tentler.
