Book Interpreting Spanish in the X Ray Room

Download or read book Interpreting Spanish in the X Ray Room written by Hector H Zavala Rt(r) and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PURPOSE OF PUBLICATION It is my hope that this handbook will be very useful to the radiographer in his or her exchange with non-English speaking Hispanics. Over the years I have worked in this field, I have seen my co-workers struggle when interacting with these patients. This is one of the reasons I was motivated to write this booklet. I hope that techs keep this handbook in their pockets for quick references when interacting with their non-English speaking Hispanic patients. I have tried to give a translation of the basic instructions and questions that techs need to give a patient who speaks very little or no English. The different conversations are written in English, translated to Spanish and a pronunciation of the same to help retain the material. There is a section of anatomical parts as well as positions that are translated from English to Spanish so the tech can be familiar with the terms when using them in dialogue. It is my hope that this resource will better assist radiographers, and increase the comfort level of the patient during the medical procedure. Hector Zavala, (R) (ARRT, ASRT, CSRT) is an x-ray technologist graduated from Pasadena City College in 2005. He received his training at Glendale Memorial Hospital and Adventist White Memorial, where he has had the opportunity to work for 15 years. Mr. Zavala has experience in diagnostic imaging in both forms screen and computer, in the operating room with a C-arm, portable x-ray units, PACS, and fluoroscopy. He continues working at Adventist White Memorial serving a great Hispanic community.

Book Dialogue Interpreting

Download or read book Dialogue Interpreting written by Rebecca Tipton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Routledge Interpreting Guides cover the key settings or domains of interpreting and equip trainee interpreters and students of interpreting with the skills needed in each area of the field. Concise, accessible and written by leading authorities, they include examples from existing interpreting practice, activities, further reading suggestions and a glossary of key terms. Drawing on recent peer-reviewed research in interpreting studies and related disciplines, Dialogue Interpreting helps practising interpreters, students and instructors of interpreting to navigate their way through what is fast becoming the very expansive field of dialogue interpreting in more traditional domains, such as legal and medical, and in areas where new needs of language brokerage are only beginning to be identified, such as asylum, education, social care and faith. Innovative in its approach, this guide places emphasis on collaborative dimensions in the wider institutional and organizational setting in each of the domains covered, and on understanding services in the context of local communities. The authors propose solutions to real-life problems based on knowledge of domain-specific practices and protocols, as well as inviting discussion on existing standards of practice for interpreters. Key features include: contextualized examples and case studies reinforced by voices from the field, such as the views of managers of language services and the publications of professional associations. These allow readers to evaluate appropriate responses in relation to their particular geo-national contexts of practice and personal experience activities to support the structured development of research skills, interpreter performance and team-work. These can be used either in-class or as self-guided or collaborative learning and are supplemented by materials on the Translation Studies Portal a glossary of key terms and pointers to resources for further development. Dialogue Interpreting is an essential guide for practising interpreters and for all students of interpreting within advanced undergraduate and postgraduate/graduate programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Modern Languages, Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication.

Download or read book Intuitive Interpreting written by Annalisa Nash Fernandez and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-14 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **Second edition with Coronavirus terminology.** A medical dictionary re-engineered for quick reference of highly technical terms! This specialized resource is the only interpreter's dictionary that leverages Spanish fluency and language intuition with a functional approach that excludes the bulk of familiar lexicon and adds technical terms found only in voluminous dictionaries. Intuitive Interpreting is not an interpreter training guide or manual for health care providers multitasking as interpreters. The abridged format excludes cognate forms of words such as "infection-infección", and common terms such as "cough" or "hot". Instead it is abridged to include only a shortlist of terms such as "whooping cough - tos ferina" and "hot flashes - sofocos," and even highly technical terminology, and newer Covid19 vocabulary, not found in modern medical dictionaries. This highly functional format is targeted to the experienced interpreter in need of only technically specific and esoteric lexicon.Designed to be incomplete, the dictionary section is limited to the 1,000 words an experienced interpreter needs. Included are glossaries by medical specialty, and guides to false cognates and the specifics of interpreter protocol. Sections on Greek and Latin based prefixes, and cognate stems, complete this niche resource. Intuitive Interpreting is the only dictionary that is practical on-the-job, where digital applications may be blocked, and complete medical dictionaries are too cumbersome. This is the only terminology resource a professional medical interpreter needs to work effectively in EnglishSpanish. Attach it to your clipboard and handle obscure medical terminology discreetly and efficiently.Authored by a nationally certified medical interpreter, for practicing interpreters.
