Download or read book Dynamic Interpretation of Dynaflect and Falling Weight Deflectometer Tests on Pavement Systems written by Ko-Young Shao and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dynaflect and the Falling Weight Deflectometer are commonly used for nondestructive testing of pavements. Although in both cases a dynamic load is imparted, the determination of the mechanical properties of the pavement is normally performed by using static analyses. In this study, the displacements obtained from dynamic analyses are compared to those provided by conventional static programs when the subbase is a homogeneous soil stratum of finite depth, resting on a much stiffer rock-like material and when the soil properties increase smoothly with depth, as is often the case.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural evaluation can be very useful at the network level for project prioritization purposes. In the project priority ranking procedure of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), a pavement rating attribute, Pavement Structural Evaluation (PSE), is used. These ratings are subjective. his study outlines an approach based on the classical multiple regression analysis resulting in a better estimation of the PSE values using the results from the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) tests and network-level distress survey. The regression models proposed in this study predict the decrease in PSE values by taking into account the FWD data, age, thickness, and distress levels of pavements, and very closely approximate the current PSE ratings obtained at the district level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When FWD tests are performed on broken or cracked pavements (of which information is crucial in making rehabilitation and overlay decisions), the multi-layered elastic theory-based backcalulation programs assume that the effect of these discontinuities in a cracked layer on deflection basins would be accounted for by the reduction of the elastic modulus for that layer. However, it has been concluded and confirmed by researchers and practitioners that the backcalculation algorithms based on the multi-layered elastic theory produce large variation in the algorithms based on the multi-layered elastic theory produce large variation in the 'effective' moduli of the cracked layers. Studies have also shown that significant errors in the backcalculated pavement moduli can accrue from performing a static analysis of what is inherently a dynamic test. Unfortunately, dynamic analysis usually involves complex calculations and requires significant computation time, thus making it impracticable for routine applications. This study presents a methology based on deflection basin parameters.

Subcommittee D-4 on Road and Paving Materials and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1994 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of June 1993 international symposium held in Atlanta, Georgia, called specifically to develop and standardized evaluation procedures for non-destructive methods of testing pavements. The 29 papers discuss analytical models and techniques, measurement and calculation techniques in the field and laboratory, problems and errors associated with backcalculation methods and design parameters, and testing for other pavement uses. Also includes a history of the quest for a standard and the status of that effort. Reproduced from typescripts. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical methods and related computer based algorithms form the logical solution for. many complex problems encountered in science and engineering. Although numerical techniques are now well established, they have continued to expand and diversify, particularly in the fields of engineering analysis and design. Various engineering departments in the University College of Swansea, in particular, Civil, Chemical, Electrical and Computer Science, have groups working in these areas. It is from this mutual interest that the NUMETA conference series was conceived with the main objective of providing a link between engineers developing new numerical techniques and those applying them in practice. Encouraged by the success of NUMETA '85, the second conference, NUMETA '87, was held at Swansea, 6-10 July 1987. Over two hundred and twenty abstracts were submitted for consideration together with a number of invited papers from experts in the field of numerical methods. The final selection of contributed and invited papers were of a high quality and have culminated in the two volumes which form these proceedings. This volume contains papers on the themes of 'Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design' and 'Developments in Engineering Software'. Many new developments on a wide variety of topics have been reported and these proceedings contain a wealth of information and references which we believe will be of great interest to theoreticians and practising engineers alike.

Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report 747: Guide for Conducting Forensic Investigations of Highway Pavements explores a process for conducting forensic investigations of pavements that is designed to help understand the reasons behind premature failures or exceptionally good performance. The process also allows for the collection of data for use in developing or calibrating performance-prediction models. The report includes example forms and checklists for use during the conduct of an investigation. These forms can be modified to suit the particular requirements and procedures for the agency. The example forms are included with the print version of the report in CD-ROM format." --Publisher description.
