Book Internet Video Data Streaming

Download or read book Internet Video Data Streaming written by Ye Tian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the problem of reducing operating cost for a video streaming content delivery network (CDN), including both the CDN’s energy and traffic costs. It first introduces the key issues and design choices of representative real-world CDNs, and discusses the energy saving techniques for data centers and CDNs. Then, based on a measurement study on a large video streaming CDN, it reveals an inherent conflict between improving a video streaming CDN’s energy efficiency for energy saving, and maintaining the CDN’s ISP-friendly server selection policy. Further, it discusses a cost-aware capacity provisioning algorithm that not only allows the service capacity of a CDN’s server clusters in numerous ISPs to be dynamically planned, but also means that the overall operating cost, including both the energy consumptions and the cross-ISP traffics, can be further optimized. In addition it uses the workload derived from real-world measurement and also implements real values of the actual power and bandwidth prices to evaluate the capacity provisioning algorithm, showing that it can significantly reduce the overall operating cost of a video streaming CDN, and effectively avoid frequent server switches. Lastly, the book outlines a number of potential research directions regarding cost-aware content delivery. The measurement, analysis, and optimization methodologies and results presented in this book are of particular interest to researchers in the Internet and networking area.

Book Real time Monitoring and Prediction of Internet Video

Download or read book Real time Monitoring and Prediction of Internet Video written by Jordi Rey Morales and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [ANGLÈS] Video Internet services are increasing every year. High-Quality TV over Internet is a service offered by many companies in many countries, and video streaming websites are within the most popular sites on the Internet. Because of that, service providers have a major concern in giving to their customers the best quality in their services. In order to guarantee the quality on these services, a Quality of Experience monitoring tool is required. The main goal of this thesis is to develop a tool to monitor the Quality of Experience of video over Internet services. In order to be functional, this monitoring tool has to be usable in a real scenario. In this case, a real scenario implies that this tool is used in strategic points of the network and the only available means is the data stream that goes through the network. The most important feature of this tool is that it has to be functional in real-time. It has to be so because its goal is to detect problems before these affect the quality of the video offered to the customers and avoid their complaints. In this thesis a lightweight method to monitor the Quality of Experiences is implemented. It is designed to predict in a fast way the quality of the video using only the data stream: information in the Internet protocols headers and in the coded video data. In order to achieve this, the structure of the packets has been studied, including the format of the protocols headers and the video codec encoding performance. Then the software has been designed to receive the stream and calculate the parameters that give an estimation of the Quality of experience. This method has been tested to validate its performance and conclude whether it is or not a valid tool to be used in a real scenario or not.

Book Streampunks

Download or read book Streampunks written by Robert Kyncl and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entertainment and tech insider—YouTube’s chief business officer—delivers the first detailed account of the rise of YouTube, the creative minds who have capitalized on it to become pop culture stars, and how streaming video is revolutionizing the media world. In the past ten years, the internet video platform YouTube has changed media and entertainment as profoundly as the invention of film, radio, and television did, more than six decades earlier. Streampunks is a firsthand account of this upstart company, examining how it evolved and where it will take us next. Sharing behind-the-scenes stories of YouTube’s most influential stars—Streampunks like Tyler Oakley, Lilly Singh, and Casey Neistat—and the dealmakers brokering the future of entertainment like Scooter Braun and Shane Smith, Robert Kyncl uses his experiences at three of the most innovative media companies, HBO, Netflix, and YouTube, to tell the story of streaming video and this modern pop culture juggernaut. Collaborating with Google speechwriter Maany Peyvan, Kyncl explains how the new rules of entertainment are being written and how and why the media landscape is radically changing, while giving aspiring Streampunks some necessary advice to launch their own new media careers. Kyncl persuasively argues that, despite concerns about technology impoverishing artists or undermining artistic quality, the new media revolution is actually fueling a creative boom and leading to more compelling, diverse, and immersive content. Enlightening, surprising, and thoroughly entertaining, Streampunks is a revelatory ride through the new media rebellion that is reshaping our world.

It will also be useful for graduate students following Electronic Engineering and Computer Science courses.

Book Streaming Sharing Stealing

Download or read book Streaming Sharing Stealing written by Michael D. Smith and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-08-25 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How big data is transforming the creative industries, and how those industries can use lessons from Netflix, Amazon, and Apple to fight back. “[The authors explain] gently yet firmly exactly how the internet threatens established ways and what can and cannot be done about it. Their book should be required for anyone who wishes to believe that nothing much has changed.” —The Wall Street Journal “Packed with examples, from the nimble-footed who reacted quickly to adapt their businesses, to laggards who lost empires.” —Financial Times Traditional network television programming has always followed the same script: executives approve a pilot, order a trial number of episodes, and broadcast them, expecting viewers to watch a given show on their television sets at the same time every week. But then came Netflix's House of Cards. Netflix gauged the show's potential from data it had gathered about subscribers' preferences, ordered two seasons without seeing a pilot, and uploaded the first thirteen episodes all at once for viewers to watch whenever they wanted on the devices of their choice. In this book, Michael Smith and Rahul Telang, experts on entertainment analytics, show how the success of House of Cards upended the film and TV industries—and how companies like Amazon and Apple are changing the rules in other entertainment industries, notably publishing and music. We're living through a period of unprecedented technological disruption in the entertainment industries. Just about everything is affected: pricing, production, distribution, piracy. Smith and Telang discuss niche products and the long tail, product differentiation, price discrimination, and incentives for users not to steal content. To survive and succeed, businesses have to adapt rapidly and creatively. Smith and Telang explain how. How can companies discover who their customers are, what they want, and how much they are willing to pay for it? Data. The entertainment industries, must learn to play a little “moneyball.” The bottom line: follow the data.
