Book Internationalization Patterns of Swiss Private Banks

Download or read book Internationalization Patterns of Swiss Private Banks written by Fabienne Wengert and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focused on the internationalization patterns of Swiss private banks. Having used a sample of eight Swiss private banks, their internationalization patterns were analyzed within a qualitative multiple case study according to expansion speed, entry order, and motives for their expansion moves. Furthermore, they were compared to the Uppsala Internationalization Model and Born Global approach. It is observed that, on an aggregated level, the internationalization patterns of the eight banks show strong similarities. The frequency of internationalization activities has grown incrementally over time. However, the main difference lies in the extent and speed that is often related to acquisition activities. Moreover, the internationalization processes were mostly initiated either in important financial centers in Western Europe or in North America, and have covered Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. In the majority of cases, expansions into Asia and the Middle East followed that in Europe and the Americas. The patterns further show that, even though emerging markets have gained prominence, traditional European markets have also remained in focus throughout the internationalization process. The motives for the expansion moves are also of a similar nature. General market attractiveness has often been largely determined by legal issues as well as by the behavior of competitors. The motivation behind cooperation has often been related to collecting knowledge and building networks, while international acquisitions have been driven by, amongst other factors, a desire to complement current operations, accelerate market entry and improve economies of scale. Additionally, it has been found that the banks have largely followed a gradual internationalization pattern and used similar entry and market penetration strategies to establish a new market stepwise. Market commitments and resources have often been increased incremen.

Book New Directions in Elite Studies

Download or read book New Directions in Elite Studies written by Olav Korsnes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the financial crisis, the issue of the ‘one percent’ has become the centre of intense public debate, unavoidable even for members of the elite themselves. Moreover, inquiring into elites has taken centre-stage once again in both journalistic investigations and academic research. New Directions in Elite Studies attempts to move the social scientific study of elites beyond economic analysis, which has greatly improved our knowledge of inequality, but is restricted to income and wealth. In contrast, this book mobilizes a broad scope of research methods to uncover the social composition of the power elite – the ‘field of power’. It reconstructs processes through which people gain access to positions in this particular social space, examines the various forms of capital they mobilize in the process – economic, but also cultural and social capital – and probes changes over time and variations across national contexts. Bringing together the most advanced research into elites by a European and multidisciplinary group of scholars, this book presents an agenda for the future study of elites. It will appeal to all those interested in the study of elites, inequality, class, power, and gender inequality.

Book Strategic Adaption of Swiss Private Banks

Download or read book Strategic Adaption of Swiss Private Banks written by Tobias Hungerbuehler and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines strategic adaption of Swiss private banks. Questions about how and why things alter over time are addressed in order to improve the comprehensive understanding of strategic adaption of Swiss private banks in general, and to pursue systematic approaches for an argumentative linkage of strategic adaption and strategic issues in particular, and over time. The research in the form of a longitudinal, comparative and inductive case study led to the conclusion that Swiss private banks are concerned with strategic adaption as a constant phenomenon and have to cope with a multiplicity of strategic issues that emerge in their environmental dimensions. Moreover, the cross-case comparison indicates that strategic adaption across both considered Swiss private banks Credit Suisse and UBS tends to be homogeneous and rather complex regarding its impact on the configuration of the underlying business model of the affected organisation. The conclusion across all the findings of the case study led to the proposition that Swiss private banks are affected by three fundamental types of strategic issues, namely: one-time, universal and cyclical strategic issues. Furthermore, the findings indicate two essential types of strategic adaption, namely: proactive and reactive strategic adaptions that are carried out by Swiss private banks in order to cope with strategic issues over time. Based on these two propositions, this thesis has in-troduced a framework which generally describes and explains the linkage between the generic types of strategic adaption and strategic issues and their causal interaction over time.
