Download or read book Rethinking Nordic Co operation in Higher Education written by Peter Maassen and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This report presents the main outcomes of a study on internationalization in higher education in the Nordic countries, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The study focuses on how academic goals of higher education institutions in general and their internationalisation strategies in particular, are influenced by the growing "economization", and "marketization". It also focuses on the factors that currently stimulate or hamper Nordic cooperation. In the conclusion, recent policy developments within the area of internationalization are discussed, and some suggestions for further policy initiatives are made. These sugegstions argue for more diversity and flexibility, clearer strategies and better linkages in the Nordic cooperation in higher education. The empirical data and case descriptions of the study can be found in a separate report called "Rethinking Nordic Co-operation in Higher education - National and Institutional Case Studies" (TemaNord 2005:523)

  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book The Bologna Process written by David Crosier and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2013 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines the development of the Bologna Process, reviewing how it came into existence and the milestones reached over the past decade. It provides a critical examination of the state of implementation of its main policy action lines - such as comparable degree structures and quality assurance systems - and assesses its impact in fostering greater student mobility, widening participation in higher education, and developing lifelong learning. The impact of the Bologna Process as a driver of reform is set against challenges in implementing agreed goals. And the authors point to the diversity of results across the 47 signatory countries, highlighting problems with the use of instruments at the institutional level. The book also discusses how the Bologna Process has become a focus of attention for higher education policy-making around the world, presenting examples of the policy initiatives it has inspired. Finally, it considers the lessons to be learned from this European experience, and the challenges to be met in the future.

Book The Bologna Process in Central and Eastern Europe

Download or read book The Bologna Process in Central and Eastern Europe written by Tamás Kozma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bologna Process opened a new chapter in the history of the European higher education. The idea of a common European Higher Education Area was developed in Western Europe and accelerated increasingly there in the second half of the 20th century, as a phenomenon of globalization. For the post-communist states in Eastern Europe the complete change of the political system made it possible to join the European Union and the Bologna Process. These changes had an impact not only on the educational policies but also on the educational system and the educational culture as well. This book shows the changes in the higher education of ten countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The country studies are supplemented with an international and a historical comparative analysis, to point out the special features of the implementation of the Bologna aims in the region.

Book The European Higher Education Area

Download or read book The European Higher Education Area written by Adrian Curaj and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-12 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between higher education research and policy making was always a challenge, but the recent calls for more evidence-based policies have opened a window of unprecedented opportunity for researchers to bring more contributions to shaping the future of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Encouraged by the success of the 2011 first edition, Romania and Armenia have organised a 2nd edition of the Future of Higher Education – Bologna Process Researchers’ Conference (FOHE-BPRC) in November 2014, with the support of the Italian Presidency of the European Union and as part of the official EHEA agenda. Reuniting over 170 researchers from more than 30 countries, the event was a forum to debate the trends and challenges faced by higher education today and look at the future of European cooperation in higher education. The research volumes offer unique insights regarding the state of affairs of European higher education and research, as well as forward-looking policy proposals. More than 50 articles focus on essential themes in higher education: Internationalization of higher education; Financing and governance; Excellence and the diversification of missions; Teaching, learning and student engagement; Equity and the social dimension of higher education; Education, research and innovation; Quality assurance, The impacts of the Bologna Process on the EHEA and beyond and Evidence-based policies in higher education. "The Bologna process was launched at a time of great optimism about the future of the European project – to which, of course, the reform of higher education across the continent has made a major contribution. Today, for the present, that optimism has faded as economic troubles have accumulated in the Euro-zone, political tensions have been increased on issues such as immigration and armed conflict has broken out in Ukraine. There is clearly a risk that, against this troubled background, the Bologna process itself may falter. There are already signs that it has been downgraded in some countries with evidence of political withdrawal. All the more reason for the voice of higher education researchers to be heard. Since the first conference they have established themselves as powerful stakeholders in the development of the EHEA, who are helping to maintain the momentum of the Bologna process. Their pivotal role has been strengthened by the second Bucharest conference." Peter Scott, Institute of Education, London (General Rapporteur of the FOHE-BPRC first edition)

Book European Higher Education at the Crossroads

Download or read book European Higher Education at the Crossroads written by Adrian Curaj and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-17 with total page 1078 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Romania hosts the 2012 Bologna / European Higher Education Area Ministerial Conference and the Third Bologna Policy Forum. In preparation for these meetings, The Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) organised the Future of Higher Education - Bologna Process Researchers’ Conference (FOHE-BPRC) in Bucharest on 17-19 October 2011, with the support of the European University Association (EUA) and the Romanian National Committee for UNESCO. The conference brought the voices of researchers into international-level policy making in higher education. The results of the conference are presented in this book. Until now, empirical evidence supporting policies and reforms in higher education has often been a matter of local or regional focus. The development of a pan-European process in higher education policy drives a need to explore wider research topics on which to base policies. This book offers an unprecedented opportunity for higher education researchers to interact and contribute to the political process shaping the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and to national policy agendas in more than 100 participant countries for the 2012 ministerial events. The book collects more than 50 articles focusing on vital issues in European higher education. These are arranged in sections addressing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) Principles; Teaching and Learning; Quality Assurance; Mobility; Higher Education Governance in the EHEA; Funding of Higher Education; Diversification of Higher Education Missions; Higher Education Futures and Foresight.

Book The Bologna Process and its Global Strategy

Download or read book The Bologna Process and its Global Strategy written by Hannah Moscovitz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book critically reflects on the international function of the Bologna Process by exploring motivations and interests behind its ‘global strategy’ as well as how the reforms have been perceived and applied beyond Europe. Since its initiation in 1999, the Bologna Process has evolved into an important example of regional higher education policy coordination. Now with 48 signatory states both within and outside the European Union, the Bologna reforms have pushed forward an ambitious agenda for a European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and the EU specifically as it aims to consolidate its knowledge-economy. Alongside its regional focus, the Bologna Process has also promoted an international reach through its ‘global strategy’. Through this externalisation, the Bologna Process has become a point of reference for higher education internationalisation worldwide Featuring examples of Bologna’s ‘reach’ from Oceania to North America and in between, the book offers a timely contribution to the understanding of the reform’s global influence. As a whole the contributions offer important insights to the understanding and conceptualisation of the EU’s global influence, comparative regionalism and global higher education development more broadly. This book was originally published as a special issue of the European Journal of Higher Education.
