Book International Tables for Crystallography Brief Teaching Edition of Volume A

Download or read book International Tables for Crystallography Brief Teaching Edition of Volume A written by Theo Hahn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-04-30 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Tables for Crystallography are no longer available for purchase from Springer. For further information please contact Wiley Inc. (follow the link on the right hand side of this page). This brief teaching edition is a condensed, inexpensive version of Volume A of International Tables for Crystallography. It consists of: complete descriptions of the 17 plane groups, useful for the teaching of symmetry 24 selected space-group examples, of varying complexity and distributed over all seven crystal systems those basic text sections of Volume A that are necessary for the understanding and handling of space groups (Parts 1, 2, 3 and 5). The purpose of the teaching edition is threefold: It should provide a handy (and inexpensive) tool for researchers and students wishing to familiarize themselves with the use of the space-group tables in Volume A. It is designed for use in classroom teaching, and with this aim in mind the price has been kept as low as possible. In order to achieve this, the material has been reprinted from Volume A without any changes, except for pagination. It may serve as a laboratory handbook because the 24 examples include most of the frequently occurring space groups, for both organic and inorganic crystals. The fifth edition of the brief teaching edition has been reviewed by M. Warren [Mineral. Mag. (2003). 67, 826-827].

The new edition contains new diagrams for all plane groups and space groups and includes space group No. 64 (Cmca) as an example of a space group with the `double' glide plane e. The Teaching Edition serves a threefold purpose: it should provide a handy tool for researchers and students to familiarize themselves with the use of the space-group tables in Volume A; it is designed for use in classroom teaching; and it can serve as a laboratory handbook, since the 24 examples chosen include most of the frequently occurring space groups for both organic and inorganic crystals.

Download or read book Crystallography written by Walter Borchardt-Ott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a self-study guide, course primer or teaching aid, Bor- chardt-Ott's Crystallography is the perfect textbook for students and teachers alike. In fact, it can be used by chemists, mineralogists, physicists and geologists. Based on the author's more than 20 years of teaching experience, the book has numerous line drawings designed especially for the text and a large number of exercises - with solutions - at the end of each chapter. The fourth edition of the original German text has been translated into English for an international readership. The heart of the book is firmly fixed in geometrical crystallography. It is from the concept of the space lattice that symmetry operations, Bravais lattices, space groups and point groups are all developed. Molecular symmetry and crystal formsare treated. Much emphasis is placed on the correspondence between point groups and space groups. The sections on crystal chemistry and X-ray diffraction are intended as an introduction to these fields.

Book International Tables for Crystallography Definition and Exchange of Crystallographic Data

Download or read book International Tables for Crystallography Definition and Exchange of Crystallographic Data written by Sydney R. Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-19 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Tables for Crystallography Volume G, Definition and exchange of crystallographic data, describes the standard data exchange and archival file format (the Crystallographic Information File, or CIF) used throughout crystallography. It provides in-depth information vital for small-molecule, inorganic and macromolecular crystallographers, mineralogists, chemists, materials scientists, solid-state physicists and others who wish to record or use the results of a single-crystal or powder diffraction experiment. The volume also provides the detailed data ontology necessary for programmers and database managers to design interoperable computer applications. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the CIF dictionaries in machine-readable form and a collection of libraries and utility programs. This volume is an essential guide and reference for programmers of crystallographic software, data managers handling crystal-structure information and practising crystallographers who need to use CIF.

Book Basic Elements of Crystallography

Download or read book Basic Elements of Crystallography written by Nevill Gonzalez Szwacki and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a complete and clear introduction to the field of crystallography. It includes an extensive discussion on the 14 Bravais lattices and their reciprocals, the basic concepts of point- and space-group symmetry, the crystal structure of elements and binary compounds, and much more. The purpose of this textbook is to illustrate rather than describe "using many words" the structure of materials. Even readers who are completely unfamiliar with the topic, but still interested in learning how the atoms are arranged in crystal structures, will find this book immensely useful. Each chapter is accompanied by exercises designed to encourage students to explore the different crystal structures they are learning about. The solutions to the exercises are also provided at the end of the book.

Book International Tables for Crystallography Space Group Symmetry

Download or read book International Tables for Crystallography Space Group Symmetry written by Theo Hahn and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2005-06-06 with total page 932 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Tables for Crystallography is the definitive resource and reference work for crystallography and structural science. Each of the eight volumes in the series contains articles and tables of data relevant to crystallographic research and to applications of crystallographic methods in all sciences concerned with the structure and properties of materials. Emphasis is given to symmetry, diffraction methods and techniques of crystal-structure determination, and the physical and chemical properties of crystals. The data are accompanied by discussions of theory, practical explanations and examples, all of which are useful for teaching. Volume A treats crystallographic symmetry in direct or physical space. It contains extensive tabulations and illustrations of the 17 plane groups, the 230 space groups and the 32 crystallographic point groups. Parts 1-5 of the volume present introductory material, including lists of symbols and terms, a guide to the use of the space-group tables, and the determination of space groups. Later parts discuss aspects of symmetry theory, such as crystal lattices and normalizers of space groups. Thoroughly updated and improved, the latest edition of Volume A includes an additional chapter on further properties of lattices.

After reading the book, you will not only know what a space group is and how to read the International Tables for Crystallography, but will also be able to interpret crystallographic specifications in specialist publications. If questions remain, you also have the opportunity to ask the author on the book's website.

Book Crystallography and the World of Symmetry

Download or read book Crystallography and the World of Symmetry written by Sanat K. Chatterjee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-19 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry exists in realms from crystals to patterns, in external shapes of living or non-living objects, as well as in the fundamental particles and the physical laws that govern them. In fact, the search for this symmetry is the driving force for the discovery of many fundamental particles and the formulation of many physical laws. While one can not imagine a world which is absolutely symmetrical nor can one a world which is absolutely asymmetrical. These two aspects of nature are intermingled with each other inseparably. This is the basis of the existence of aperiodicity manifested in the liquid crystals and also quasi-crystals also discussed in “Crystallography and the World of Symmetry”.
