Book Sequence Stratigraphy on the Northwest European Margin

Download or read book Sequence Stratigraphy on the Northwest European Margin written by Norsk petroleumsforening. Conference and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. Sequence Stratigraphy, presently one of the most rapidly growing areas in geology, is concerned with the documentation and prediction of how sandstones (potential hydrocarbon reservoirs) and shales (potential source rocks) are distributed in time and space within sedimentary basins. The book takes a critical look at some of the sequence stratigraphy concepts, and provides an account of how these have been applied recently in NW Europe (North Sea, mid Norway and E. Greenland, Barents Sea and Svalbard), mainly in connection with the exploration for oil and gas. There is currently no similar book available.

Book Sequence Stratigraphy and Depositional Response to Eustatic Tectonic and Climatic Forcing

Download or read book Sequence Stratigraphy and Depositional Response to Eustatic Tectonic and Climatic Forcing written by B.U. Haq and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sequence stratigraphy has advanced considerably since the early applications of the concepts on seismic data. It attempts to discern the migration of facies re sulting from changes in a combination of factors such as, sea level, tectonics, climate and sediment flux, and integrates it with a meaningful chronostratigraphy. The stratigraphic record is envisioned as a framework of repetitive packages of genetically-related strata, formed in response to the shifting base level, in which the locus of deposition of various sediment types may be anticipated. This attribute is rapidly promoting sequence stratigraphy as an indispensable tool for prediction of facies in exploration and production geology. In hydrocarbon exploration the application of sequence stratigraphy has ranged from anticipating reservoir- and source-rock distribution to predicting carbonate diagenesis, porosity and permeability. The capability to anticipate vertical and lateral distribution of facies and reservoir sands in the basinal, shoreface, incised valley-fill and regressive settings alone has been a great asset for exploration. In frontier areas, where data are often limited to seismic lines, sequence-stratigraphic methodology has helped determine the timing and of types of unconformities and anticipate transgressive- and regressive-prone intervals. In production it is aiding in field development by providing improved source and seal predictions for secondary oil recovery. A recognition of stratigraphic causes of poor recovery through improved understanding of internal stratal architecture can lead to new well recompletions and enhanced exploitation in existing fields. The sequence-stratigraphic discipline is in a state of rapid expansion.

Book Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem Response to the Jenkyns Event in the Early Toarcian Jurassic

Download or read book Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem Response to the Jenkyns Event in the Early Toarcian Jurassic written by M. Reolid and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event, also known as the Jenkyns Event, was a hyperthermal episode which occurred during the early Toarcian (c. 183 Ma; Early Jurassic) and resulted in numerous collateral effects including global warming, enhanced weathering, sea-level change, carbonate crisis, marine anoxia–dysoxia, and a second-order mass extinction. This volume presents the last advances for understanding early Toarcian environmental changes through different disciplines: biostratigraphy, micropalaeontology, palaeontology, ichnology, palaeoecology, sedimentology, integrated stratigraphy, inorganic, organic and isotopic geochemistry, and cyclostratigraphy. The study of this abrupt climate change is critical for predicting future global changes, and for understanding the complex biogeochemical interactions through time between geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere.

Book The Jurassic of Denmark and Greenland

Download or read book The Jurassic of Denmark and Greenland written by Jon R. Ineson and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jurassic of Denmark and adjacent areas occurs mostly in the subsurface and research has thus focussed on the wealth of borehole and reflection seismic data resulting from over thirty years of hydrocarbon exploration. The Jurassic of East Greenland, in contrast, is exposed in spectacular cliffs along fjords and mountainsides and has come to be regarded as a unique field laboratory, particularly amongst those working on the Norwegian shelf--the conjugate margin of East Greenland. This bulletin presents the results of a period of intensive research into the Jurassic in the late 1980s and 1990s. Following detailed chronostratigraphic and biostratigraphic reviews of the Jurassic of Northwest Europe, the successions of Denmark and East Greenland are subjected to a range of stratigraphic, sedimentological, structural and geochemical studies that together provide the basis for a detailed comparison of the Jurassic evolution of the East Greenland and Danish sedimentary basins.

Book Stratigraphy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jacques Rey
  • Publisher : Editions TECHNIP
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 9782710809104
  • Pages : 180 pages

Download or read book Stratigraphy written by Jacques Rey and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 2008 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by 33 stratigraphic experts, presents various processes available which will enable the location in time of all rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, plutonic, and eruptive, whether they are in outcrop or at subsurface. The terminology and the appropriate practices for each method are presented in separate chapters and illustrated with concrete examples. The order of the chapters is modeled on the progression of the stratigraphic process, from the descriptive to the interpretative, from the methods of the geometric stratigraphy (lithostratigraphy and genetic stratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy) to the chronological stratigraphy (biostratigraphy), followed by the chronometric stratigraphy (isotopic geochronology). The final two chapters are dedicated to chronostratigraphic units and correlations which combine the contributions of various methods and to the presentation of the 2007 version of the Geological Time Scale. The definitions of stratigraphic terms can be found in a glossary at the end of the work. The book is addressed to all professional geologists, from the industrial sector as well as those in universities, including teachers and researchers who would like to deepen their knowledge of the vocabulary, the concepts, the methods and the practical applications of different approaches of stratigraphy, a reference discipline for the entirety of the geological sciences.
