Book European Politics

Download or read book European Politics written by Jan-Erik Lane and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1996-08-19 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive textbook is the first to go beyond a West European perspective and provide a clear overview of the whole of European politics. Jan-Erik Lane and Svante Ersson address the similarities of key political features among states in Western, Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Europe and look forward to political developments at the turn of the century. Traditionally, books have polarized Europe by focusing on points of divergence. European Politics provides a thoroughgoing analysis of several converging themes, including political culture, the nature of the state, party systems, and the formation of government and public policies. With this approach to economic, social and political aspects of politics in Europe this major text presents a Europe that, within the context of reform, transition and integration, has more in common in the early 1990s than ever before. With a clear thematic structure and helpful discussions of data drawn from some 30 countries European Politics offers both an accessible and genuinely comparative text which will be essential reading for student and researcher alike.

Book European Integration and Foreign Direct Investment in the EU

Download or read book European Integration and Foreign Direct Investment in the EU written by Shin Sang-Hyup and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the fundamental question why and under which conditions Korean firms increased their investment so heavily in the EU after 1986 and why they and not the Korean government took the initiative in the decision-making process. The author contends that the main reason for the firm's departure from government policy is the belief of the Korean government that national competitiveness, which largely affects the country's standard of living, is determined by the success of local firms in global competition. The author substantiates his argument by supplying comprehensive surveys of twenty-six Korean consumer electronics firms and concomitant interviews with senior managers in nine of these. The empirical material suggests that Korean consumer electronics firms were principally motivated by their need to seek market security through a 'globalization' strategy.

Book Cars

    Book Details:
  • Author : Karel Williams
  • Publisher : Berghahn Books
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9781571818515
  • Pages : 276 pages

Download or read book Cars written by Karel Williams and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 1994 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Car manufacturing involves the movement of large numbers of heavy, awkward objects incorporating some 20,000 parts, through a large number of short cycles. As to be expected the constant flow of the processes involved is disrupted by both the inherent complexities of production and those of market restrictions. This study, a unique blend of analysis, history and case studies, not only characterizes the essence of car manufacturing but also explains the links between production, market conditions and financial results and constraints. At the same time, it challenges fashionable views on the car industry and rejects the current preference for facile dichotomies (e.g. mass production vs. lean production; Japan vs. America; freedom vs. regulation). However, it also shows that the failure of BMC, the largest failure in the industry to date, cannot be attributed to its incomplete adoption of the best system. Ford and Toyota were exceptionally successful in their production organization but their solutions had more in common than is generally acknowledged, and those solutions also required exceptional market conditions for their successful implementation.
