Book The Economics of Non Wage Labour Costs Routledge Revivals

Download or read book The Economics of Non Wage Labour Costs Routledge Revivals written by Bob Hart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-07-19 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the OECD, 30% of the average firm’s total labour costs comprises items which are other than direct remuneration. This reissue, first published in 1984, focuses upon these non-wage labour costs, which include; fringe-benefit payments, obligatory social-welfare contributions, holiday entitlements and expenditures on recruitment and training, seeking to make amends for the woeful lack of consideration given to these important factors in previous wage literature. The book focuses on two major areas of enquiry: firstly, the costs for the cyclical behaviour of employment, and secondly, the role of average working hours per employee in the firm’s overall allocation of labour services. The author begins with an empirical survey and costs breakdown, followed by extensive data on Japan, the UK, the USA and West Germany. The ensuing analysis considers the question as to why firms incur the various non-wages, and a comparative static factor demand model is constructed, which accommodates the major cost items.

Book The Global Wage System

Download or read book The Global Wage System written by Gernot Kohler and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International wage differences are important at a time of globalisation; their social and economic consequences are vast, if not devastating. It is astonishing, therefore, that the origins, causes, and determinants of international wage differences are hardly ever discussed. According to a widely held half-truth, international wage differences reflect international productivity differences. This study challenges that belief and shows that international wage differences are due to a mixture of discrimination and various economic factors, just like wage differences between the sexes. The approach of this study is influenced by two strands of socio-economic analysis, namely, by world-system analysis and by the feminist. critique of gender wage differences. The central theme is discrimination versus productivity. Are international wage differences due to productivity differences or are they due to discrimination? The following issues are examined: Data on international wage differences; long-term changes of national wage rates; wage differences due to gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and region; the relationship between wages and GDP per capita; and more.

Book Labor Costs and International Trade

Download or read book Labor Costs and International Trade written by Stephen S. Golub and published by A E I Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why should we seek and tell the truth? Does anyone know what truth is? Many are skeptical about the relevance of truth. Truth Matters endeavours to show why truth is important in a world where the very idea of truth is contested. Putting philosophers in conversation with educators, literary scholars, physicists, political theorists, and theologians, Truth Matters ranges across both analytic and continental philosophy and draws on the ideas of thinkers such as Aquinas, Balthasar, Brandom, Davidson, Dooyeweerd, Gadamer, Habermas, Kierkegaard, Plantinga, Ricoeur, and Wolterstorff. Some essays attempt to provide a systematic account of truth, while others wrestle with the question of how truth is told and what it means to live truthfully. Contributors address debates between realists and anti-realists, explore issues surrounding relativism and constructivism in education and the social sciences, examine the politics of truth telling and the ethics of authenticity, and consider various religious perspectives on truth. Most scholars agree that truth is propositional, being expressed in statements that are subject to proof or disproof. This book goes a step farther: yes, propositional truth is important, but truth is more than propositional. To recognize how it is more than propositional is crucial for understanding why truth truly matters. Book Cross Country Report on Minimum Wages

Download or read book Cross Country Report on Minimum Wages written by International Monetary Fund. European Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a cross-country report on minimum wages. In the past few years, many countries in Central Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) have increasingly turned to minimum wage policies. Throughout the region, statutory minimum wages had been in place at least since the early 1990s, but they were typically set at relatively moderate levels and affected relatively few workers. Minimum wages have risen sharply relative to both average wages and labor productivity. Minimum wages often affect relatively more workers in CESEE than in Western Europe. Governments are the key players in the minimum wage determination in CESEE countries.
