Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1978, this report summarises the results of a workshop on why energy consumption is much higher in the United States than other industrialised countries with similar living standards. The papers included in the workshop make interesting comparisons between countries such as Japan and the United Kingdom and the United States, raising interesting questions about environmental policy-making. This title will be of interest to students of Environmental Studies.

Book Trends in Energy Use in Industrial Societies

Download or read book Trends in Energy Use in Industrial Societies written by Joy Dunkerley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taken from a report for the Electric Power Research Institute, Joy Dunkerley’s study aims to clarify the relationship between energy consumption and economic output in industrialised countries. Originally published in 1980 and using data from 1972, this study uses cross-country comparisons of energy use to stress the importance of new supply options and measures of controlling energy use without affecting living standards whilst also discussing the impact of energy prices and economic growth in the countries studied. This title will be of interest to students of environmental studies.

Book Energy Use in the New Millennium

Download or read book Energy Use in the New Millennium written by International Energy Agency and published by OECD/IEA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to a Gleneagles G8 Summit reguest, this book shows how changes in energy efficiency, economic structure, income, prices and fuel mix have affected recent trends in energy use and CO2 emissions in IEA countries. The results are disturbing. Since 1990, the rate of energy efficiency improvement in IEA countries has been less than 1 per cent per year - much lower than in previous decades and not nearly enough to stem the growth of CO2 emissions. If climate change is to be tackled, and IEA countries move towards a sustainable energy future, then this rate will need to double. This report, using in-depth energy indicators, provides important insights to policy-makers about current energy use and CO2 emissions patterns that will help shape priorities for future action.

Book State Level Changes in Energy Intensity and Their National Implications

Download or read book State Level Changes in Energy Intensity and Their National Implications written by Mark A. Bernstein and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2003-09-09 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2001 National Energy Policy calls for continued reductions in energy intensity (energy consumption per dollar of gross economic output). This study was part of an effort to identify state-level factors that may contribute to efficient energy use nationwide. The authors examined changes in energy intensity in 48 states and in the states' energy-consuming sectors from 1977 through 1999. Some factors that may explain differences in states' energy intensity are energy prices, new construction, capacity utilization, population, climate, tech innovations, and government energy policies.

Book CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion 2018

Download or read book CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion 2018 written by International Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion provides a full analysis of emissions stemming from energy use. The data in this book cover the emissions of CO2 for 150 countries and regions by sector and by fuel. The publication contains estimates of CO2 emissions, selected indicators such as CO2/GDP, CO2/capita and CO2/TPES and a decomposition of CO2 emissions into driving factors for more than 150 countries and regions. Emissions are calculated using IEA energy databases and the default methods and emission factors from the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. The IEA CO2 emissions estimates are complemented by the EDGAR greenhouse gas data

Book Relationship Between Quality of Life and Energy Usage

Download or read book Relationship Between Quality of Life and Energy Usage written by Reza Nadimi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book utilizes statistical techniques to define a quality of life (QoL) indicator combining the three dimensions of economy, health, and education. In turn, it uses modeling to assess the impact of energy consumption on 112 countries’ QoL. What sets the proposed model apart from previous research is its ability to distinguish between pre-developing, developing, and developed countries. One important aspect of this distinction is their different global energy policies and their priorities with regard to achieving sustainable energy consumption. Accordingly, the book also discusses eco-sufficiency, eco-efficiency, and energy poverty reduction for the three different types of countries. In turn, the book provides general information on how to reconcile sustainable energy consumption with QoL and economic development. Optimization programming technique and simulation are applied to measure potential energy saving in each country, without sacrificing economic progress, and while maintaining QoL. Given its scope, the book is highly recommended to the following audiences: (1) readers seeking a state-of-the-art quantitative work on energy systems and QoL; (2) manufacturers and developers of renewable energy technologies who consider renewables as an option for mitigating energy poverty; and (3) international institutions such as the United Nations seeking a sustainable global energy strategy.

Book Energy Demand And Economic Growth

Download or read book Energy Demand And Economic Growth written by Corazon M Siddayao and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author examines the measurement and conceptual issues that complicate analytical work in the energy demand field. Successful policy decisions depend on the use of appropriate data and analytic methods; because the demand side of the energy-economy interaction is highly complex, this study focuses on the more basic economic and energy concepts and methods in demand analyses. He critiques measures used to analyze the relationship of energy to economic growth and summarizes the various demand estimation methods and their results. Highlighting the problems faced by analysts in developing countries who often have limited time and inadequate data, she discusses the serious implications of basing policy decisions on questionable analytic methods and data.
