The volume enriches our understanding of each discipline from the vantage point of the other, building a more complete understanding of joint ventures as a mode of entry into domestic and international markets. The questions are addressed using simple theoretical models and conceptual discussions as well as empirical analyses. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joint ventures have become a common vehicle for companies to create strategic alliances with partners that have complementary capabilities and resources, fostering opportunities to exploit distribution channels, technology, or finance in ways not available to the sole partners. Simply put, in a joint venture, two or more parent companies agree to pool defined capital, technology, human resources, risks, and rewards in the formation of a distinct entity under shared control. The complexities of such an arrangement are magnified when the project embraces more than one jurisdiction. In this special issue of the Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business, practitioners who have specialized in domestic and cross border joint venture formations report on their respective jurisdictions as well as particular cross border issues. The volume provides national reports on Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, The Philippines, Romania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, and Vietnam. European competition law relative to joint ventures, taxation issues in The Netherlands, and governing law also are treated.

Download or read book Critically evaluate the hypothesis Joint ventures are the ideal entry strategy to use when entering the Chinese market for the first time it is a win win situation written by Isabell Keil and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2004-09-08 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - Trade and Distribution, grade: 1,7 (A-), University of Glamorgan, course: International Business and Export Management, language: English, abstract: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the last Communist State in the world (Roberts and Kynge, 2003). Mao Zedong, the leader from 1949 until 1976, pursued a radical politicsorientated and self-sustained policy, which “had China’s door closed in front of the foreign countries” (Yahoo! Inc., 2003). Deng Xiaoping succeeded Mao Zedong and launched his economic reform programme, called the “Open Door” policy, in 1978, which encouraged foreign investment (Yahoo! Inc., 2003). This was the beginning of a new era for China. A great deal of international investors tried to gain a foothold in China’s fast growing markets in the form of joint ventures or direct investment. This paper is devoted to the joint venture (JV), and investigates whether or not this form of enterprise is the ideal strategy to enter the Chinese market. After a short survey of the Chinese economy, JV’s will be defined. The explanation of JV’s is made under consideration of the distinctive features of the Chinese culture. A lot of enterprises and JV’s as well failed because it is not easy to deal with the Chinese. This essay reports about failures of a Western JV and tries to examine the causes. Examples of successful JV’s are described as well before concluding whether or not “Joint ventures are the ideal entry strategy to use when entering the Chinese market for the first time; it is a win-win situation”.

Download or read book Foreign Entry Decision And Global Export Business Foreing Market Decisions written by Newman Enyioko and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: 4.5, , course: Management Sciences // Marketing, language: English, abstract: This paper examined issues surrounding foreign entry decisions. Essentially, the paper determined why and how a company makes a decision to enter a foreign market. The study was descriptive and data were sourced from various books, trade journals, publications and internet sites etc. The study revealed that foreign market entry strategy is an important strategic decision for international business units. The choice of foreign market entry strategy is to be made very cautiously as it has long-term implications, and it cannot be easily reversed. The study found that the future growth of international business unit depends upon the right mode of entry into foreign market. As revealed in the study there are three main modes of entry into foreign market namely: Trade mode, investment mode and contractual entry mode. In trade route, the entry in foreign market is made through exports. In investment mode, the subsidiary units are set up in the foreign market. This mode is also called foreign direct investment mode. In contractual entry mode, technological collaboration agreements are made with the business units of host nation. In this mode, technical skills/managerial skills are provided by business unit in parent country to business units in host country. Besides these three main strategies for entry into foreign markets. The choice of the appropriate strategy depends upon various factors like availability of resources, level of risk, tariff and non-tariff barriers imposed by other nations, transportation cost, infrastructure facilities, vision of management, restrictions on inflow/outflow of foreign investment. A key conclusion in the study is that there are different motives for an entry on a foreign market. The different motives that are stated in the study have common denominator which is that they can all lead to increased profit in the long run. The study suggests that in order to make an effective foreign market entry decision, firms and international business practitioners should apply the foreign-market-entry-model. They should also highlight those factors that have been found to be of most importance while entering a foreign market.

Book excerpt: Joint Venture Learning to Cooperate and Cooperating to Learn Joint venture management is a demanding and continuous process of organizing, guiding and developing, not only within the joint venture itself but also within the partner companies. Relationships between each side will change over time and problems can arise at different stages of development. An essential part of joint venture management consists of monitoring these stages, anticipating possible difficulties and avoiding them by applying appropriate measures in the areas of strategy, structure, human resources and culture. Using a range of international cases from top multinational companies, the authors present an effective model for implementing a successful joint venture management strategy. This is an essential book for practitioners in strategic planning, business professionals interested in entering joint ventures, as well as academics and students of international business. "This book offers valuable insights into how to make joint ventures work, both for practitioners and researchers. It represents a true step forward when it comes to better understanding how joint ventures function. The book significantly links joint ventures to present thinking on organizational learning and demonstrates more effectively than has been discussed elsewhere how the two fit together." Professor Peter Lorange President of IMD (International Institute for Management Development) "In our joint ventures we always look for strong complementarity with our partners. This book enlarges the traditional view of cooperation by delivering new and valuable insights into processes of interorganizational learning and knowledge management. The authors share with their readers a thoughtful toolbox built on practical experience." Franz Nawratil Chairman and CEO Hewlett-Packard Europe "Joint ventures have become an important business tool for market entry, use of synergies and innovations. Book The China Strategy

Download or read book The China Strategy written by Edward Tse and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China has hundreds of thousands of businessmen and women who are driving the fastest sustained national economic growth rate of any country in world history. After decades of being held back by their country's socialist history, the Chinese people are moving forward with the force of water bursting from a broken steam pipe. The intensity of their aspirations, joined with the plans of the government and the presence of the country's hundreds of millions of ordinary people, means that future developments in China will surpass even those of the recent past—and in an extraordinary manner. At the same time, the integration of Chinese business with global business is accelerating, meaning that no major enterprise or financial institution can avoid doing business with China, any more than they can avoid the United States. Success in China, either for a local entrepreneur or a global multinational, is now enough to transform a company's performance worldwide. This book explains the changing nature of China's business environment, its increasingly complex relationship with the rest of the world, and the global business. The China Strategy is uniquely positioned to help business leaders and other observers make sense of China. It provides a holistic view of the Chinese business environment, looking at consumers, competitive enterprises, the government, integration with the rest of the world, and the ways these elements interact. This book is thus the first to lay out a framework that puts together the different (and seemingly contradictory) trajectories of China's future. It shows how change is taking place in non-linear fashion: some factors (like Chinese entrepreneurship) are expanding exponentially, while others (like the value of China's labor arbitrage) may be reaching a plateau. And it shows how to build and execute a global business strategy in light of these changes. During the next few years, successful American and European businesses may have to move to become global businesses, incorporating China in particular into their core identity because it is the fastest-growing world hub of economic activity. They will need to become familiar with the Chinese financial systems, as well as its consumer markets, innovation capabilities, and labor force. These leaders could have no better guide than The China Strategy.
