Book excerpt: Citrus production is one of the world's largest agricultural industries. Surveys of the occurrence of nematodes attacking citrus show they are present in all citrus-growing countries of the world. The first report of and association between a nematode and citrus appeared in 1889 (673), but it was not until the discovery in 1912 of Tylenchulus semipenetrans Cobb, 1913, on the roots of citrus trees in California (965) that a nematode was found to cause a diseased condition of citrus later called slow decline.

Book FAO IBPGR Technical Guidelines for the Safe Movement of Citrus Germplasm

This book was released on 1991 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting, conservation and utiklization of plant genetic resources and their global distribution are essential componentes of international crop improvement programmes. Inevitably, the movement of germplasm involves a risk of accidentally introducing plant quarantine pests*along with the host plant material; in particular, pathogens that are often symptomless, such as viruses, pose a special risk. In order to minimize this risk, effective testing (indexing) procedures are required toensure that distributed material is free of pests that are of quarantine concern. The ever-incrrrreasing volume of germplasm exchanged internationally, coupled with recent rapid advances in biotechnology, has created a pressing need for crop-specific overviews of the existing kno.
