Book The Impacts of Imbalanced Development on Migration

Download or read book The Impacts of Imbalanced Development on Migration written by Issam A.W Mohamed and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Migration is one of the infamous phenomenon that represent grieve problem in modern world. Our present analysis is based on the conception that external migration represents an intricate crisis for developed countries flooded by illegal immigrants. It is correlated with the socioeconomic internal crisis evolving in developing countries. The case study here is on the impacts of imbalanced development on Sudan's economy and the resultant internal migration towards the urban areas specially Khartoum generated a crisis situation. The capital city of Sudan is not prepared for the floods of internally displaced, economic refugees' invasion. The proper estimation for the annual demographic increase is about 10%. The city contains more than 20% of the country's population who have little chance for job opportunities, housing, medical care or education. The paper concludes that country's resources should be devoted for rural and regional development. Otherwise, social diseases may explode with little that can be done to mend.

Book People on the Move Immigrants Refugees and Displaced Masses and Their Impact on the Society

Download or read book People on the Move Immigrants Refugees and Displaced Masses and Their Impact on the Society written by A. R. A. Al-Bashir and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is developed in three parts. The first part provides an account of the immigration from West Africa into the Sudan. Included are explanations behind this movement and the settlement of those immigrants in the different parts of the country. The author discusses religious motives, political reasons, legendary beliefs, economic reasons and ecological changes. The second part gives a general overview of the present refugee communities in the Sudan which have crossed borders from neighbouring countries. Among the groups discussed are the Zairean refugees, refugees from Ethiopia, Ugandan refugees and Chadian refugees. The third part of the paper looks at the internal migration of rural people. This category includes the drought and famine stricken communities as well as victims of instability and civil war. This last movement is that of the Sudanese refugees who have taken refuge in countries adjoining Southern Sudan. The paper attempts to investigate the future of these communities and their integration into the socio-political fabric, and the possibility of the emergence of a wider Sudanese identity engulfing these communities with the rest of the population. The paper presents the Sudan as a country teeming with mass movement prompted by pressures from outside and internal pressure within the society itself. The last part of the paper discusses the extent to which these mass movements can be influenced by state intervention.

Book Internal Mobility and Water Stresses in Sudan

Download or read book Internal Mobility and Water Stresses in Sudan written by Ibrahim Adam Abdelbasir and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The distribution of agricultural projects and the accessibility to piped and boreholes water for domestic usages in Sudan fails to deal adequately and equally with the needs of people in the basic nine administrative divisions of the country. The inequality in these two socio-economic sources created an increased inter-provincial migration during the last three decades. This study highlights the influence of accessibility to water for agricultural and domestic uses in the internal migration in Sudan. The study investigated the economic, drought, and famine factors for the internal migration in Sudan as water-related. The context is investigated using what is known as the spearman's rank correlation and student's T-test to elucidate the positive or negative relationship between internal migration and accessibility to water for domestic and agricultural usages. The analysis finds a relationship between internal migration and accessibility to water for both agricultural and household uses. The picture that arises from the analysis is attributed to the unequal opportunities of accessibility to water for household uses, unequal number of irrigated acres allocated for an individual in each province, and to the varying levels of changes in mean annual precipitation between the different regions. The study ends with some suggestions as to how to improve upon the present situation by considering certain environmental and planning implications.

Book Internally Displaced Refugees and Returnees from and in the Sudan

Download or read book Internally Displaced Refugees and Returnees from and in the Sudan written by Desirée Nilsson and published by Nordic Africa Institute. This book was released on 2000 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liguria is another country. They do things differently there, particularly when it comes to food. Lucio Galletto grew up in Liguria—at the eastern end of the Riviera di Levante (coast of the rising sun). He didn't realize how special his region was until he fell in love with an Australian girl and traveled 12,000 kilometers to be with her. In 2008 Lucio, and writer David Dale, along with photographer Paul Green, returned to the birthplace of ravioli and pesto and wild-greens pie to investigate how the cooking of Lucio's region had evolved during his 25-year absence. They found a new breed of chefs, farmers, and fishermen adapting traditions to the environmental concerns of the 21st century. Still using the wonderful array of local herbs, vegetables, and seafood, they apply a lighter touch and a more adventurous spirit. In this stunningly photographed book, Lucio brings us the fruits of his travels—180 delicious recipes that respect the experience of the past and anticipate the demands of the future; dishes that are fun to cook, beautiful to look at, a pleasure to share, and kind to the body. And, importantly, that pay homage to the sunny Riviera di Levante from which Lucio's culinary journey began. This book was the winner of the 2008 Gourmand Award for Best Italian Cuisine Book (Australian Category), and the 2009 Cordon d'Or Cuisine Award for Best Illustrated Culinary Book.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1975, this volume examines conceptual and theoretical aspects of the study of internal migration, both in chapters dealing specifically with theory and data and in case studies. The book discusses the question of who migrates, and why and what are the patterns of flow and direction of movement. The consequences of migration are analysed. Book Mobility instead of exodus

Download or read book Mobility instead of exodus written by Thomas Faist and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-27 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa is commonly regarded as a "continent on the move" in scholarly observation and mass media reportage. Movement is seen primarily in the direction of Europe. Yet the public debate is characterized by two misconceptions. The first is that high population growth in Africa would almost automatically trigger higher international migration to the neighbouring European continent. There is even talk of a "rush to Europe". The second frequently encountered misconception is that migration and flight in and from Africa is primarily a result of poverty, violent conflicts and environmental degradation. Both are misconceptions that cannot be reconciled with the facts at hand.

Book Nuer Journeys Nuer Lives

Download or read book Nuer Journeys Nuer Lives written by Jon Holtzman and published by Allyn & Bacon. This book was released on 2000 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines contemporary migration to the United States through a surprising and compelling case study the Nuer of Sudan, whose traditional life represents one of the most important case studies in the history of anthropology. In understanding the experiences of the Nuer, readers will not only gain insights into the world of the refugee problem and the role of immigration in the Unites States, they will also learn about the features of Nuer life which are considered a standard part of the anthropology curriculum. The book juxtaposes elements of Nuer culture which are well-known within anthropology and featured in most anthropology textbooks with new developments arising from the immigration of many other Nuer to the U.S. in the 1990s as refugees from civil war in southern Sudan. Consequently, this book will fit well within existing anthropology curricula, while providing an important update on descriptions of traditional life. In addition to fascinating vignettes and case studies, this book provides an opportunity to examine issues of current importance within anthropology, such as social change, transnationalism, displacement, and diaspora in a way which is easy to understand and through a familiar example. For anyone interested in cultural anthropology, race, and ethnicity.
