Book Internal Flow

Download or read book Internal Flow written by E. M. Greitzer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-26 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.

Book The Aerodynamic Performance of Several Flow Control Devices for Internal Flow Systems

Download or read book The Aerodynamic Performance of Several Flow Control Devices for Internal Flow Systems written by William T. Eckert and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental research and development program was undertaken to develop and document new flow-control devices for use in the major modifications to the 40- by 80-Foot Wind Tunnel at Ames Research Center. These devices, which are applicable to other facilities as well, included grid-type and quasi-two-dimensional flow straighteners, louver panels for valving, and turning-vane cascades with net turning angles from 0 deg to 90 deg. The tests were conducted at model scale over a Reynolds number range from 200,000 to 1,700,000, based on chord. The results showed quantitatively the performance benefits of faired, low-blockage, smooth-surface straightener systems, and the advantages of curved turning-vanes with hinge-line gaps sealed and a preferred chord-to-gap ratio between 2,5 and 3.0 for 45 deg or 90 deg turns. Book Numerical Computation of Internal and External Flows Volume 1

Download or read book Numerical Computation of Internal and External Flows Volume 1 written by Charles Hirsch and published by Wiley. This book was released on 1991-01-08 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Computation of Internal and External Flows Volume 1: Fundamentals of Numerical Discretization C. Hirsch, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium This is the first of two volumes which together describe comprehensively the theory and practice of the numerical computation of internal and external flows. In this volume, the author explains the use of basic computational methods to solve problems in fluid dynamics, comparing these methods so that the reader can see which would be the most appropriate to use for a particular problem. The book is divided into four parts. In the first part, mathematical models are introduced. In the second part, the various numerical methods are described, while in the third and fourth parts the workings of these methods are investigated in some detail. Volume 2 will be concerned with the applications of numerical methods to flow problems, and together the two volumes will provide an excellent reference for practitioners and researchers working in computational fluid mechanics and dynamics.

Book Internal flow Systems for Aircraft

Download or read book Internal flow Systems for Aircraft written by Francis Melvin Rogallo and published by . This book was released on 1940 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made to determine efficient arrangements for an internal-flow system of an aircraft when such a system operates by itself or in combination with other flow systems. The investigation included a theoretical treatment of the problem and tests in the NACA 5-foot vertical wind tunnel of inlet and outlet openings in a flat plate and in a wing.

Book Thermal Science

Download or read book Thermal Science written by Erian A. Baskharone and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, illustrated guide to thermal science A practical, illustrated guide to thermal science Written by a subject-matter expert with many years of academic and industrial experience, Thermal Science provides detailed yet concise coverage of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. The laws of thermodynamics are discussed with emphasis on their real-world applications. This comprehensive resource clearly presents the flow-governing equations of fluid mechanics, including those of mass, linear momentum, and energy conservation. Flow behavior through turbomachinery components is also addressed. The three modes of heat transfer--conduction, convection, and radiation--are described along with practical applications of each. Thermal Science covers: Properties of pure substances and ideal gases First and second laws of thermodynamics Energy conversion by cycles Power-absorbing cycles Gas power cycles Flow-governing equations External and internal flow structures Rotating machinery fluid mechanics Variable-geometry turbomachinery stages Prandtl-Meyer flow Internal flow, friction, and pressure drop Fanno flow process for a viscous flow field Rayleigh flow Heat conduction and convection Heat exchangers Transfer by radiation Instructor material available for download from companion website
