Book Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms

Download or read book Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms written by J J Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern design methods of Automotive Cam Design require the computation of a range of parameters. This book provides a logical sequence of steps for the derivation of the relevant equations from first principles, for the more widely used cam mechanisms. Although originally derived for use in high performance engines, this work is equally applicable to the design of mass produced automotive and other internal combustion engines. This work may also be applicable for cams used in other areas such as printing and packaging machinery. Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms provides the equations necessary for the design of cam lift curves with an associated smooth acceleration curve. The equations are derived for the kinematics and kinetics of all the mechanisms considered, together with those for cam curvature and oil entrainment velocity. This permits the cam shape, all loads and contact stresses to be evaluated, and the relevant tribology to be assessed. The effects of asymmetry on the manufacture of cams for finger follower and offset translating curved followers is described, and methods for transformation of cam shape data to that for a radial translating follower are given. This permits the manufacture and inspection by a wider range of CNC machines. The calculation of unsteady camshaft torques is described and an outline given for evaluation of the components for the lower engine orders. Although the theory, use and design, of reactive pendulum dampers are well documented elsewhere, these subjects have also been considered for completeness. The final chapter presents analysis of push rod mechanisms, including a four bar chain mechanism, which is more robust Written both as a reference for practising automotive design and development Engineers, and a text book for automotive engineering students, Introduction to Analytical Methods for Internal Combustion Engine Cam Mechanisms gives readers a thorough introduction into the design of automotive cam mechanisms, including much material not previously published.

Download or read book Engine Testing written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engine Testing: Theory and Practice brings together the information on both the theory and practice of engine testing that engineers in this field must have available. Organized into 19 chapters, this book begins with a description of the engine test cell, including the salient features of its main types. Subsequent chapters deal with the other main components of an engine testing installation: the control room and the ventilation systems. Other chapters discuss the essential features of a test installation fuel supply system, as well as the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of the various types of dynamometer. The measurements of torque, power, speed, fuel consumption, air consumption, heat loss, and mechanical loss are also explained. Other topics of significance include the process of combustion, exhaust emissions, data logging, and statistical analysis. This material will be very useful to practicing test engineers and students.

Book Engine Testing

Download or read book Engine Testing written by A. J. Martyr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-08 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the large and scattered body of information on the theory and practice of engine testing, to which any engineer responsible for work of this kind must have access. Engine testing is a fundamental part of development of new engine and powertrain systems, as well as of the modification of existing systems. It forms a significant part of the practical work of many automotive and mechanical engineers, in the auto manufacturing companies, their suppliers suppliers, specialist engineering services organisations, the motor sport sector, hybrid vehicles and tuning sector. The eclectic nature of engine, powertrain, chassis and whole vehicle testing makes this comprehensive book a true must-have reference for those in the automotive industry as well as more advanced students of automotive engineering. * The only book dedicated to engine testing; over 4000 copies sold of the second edition* Covers all key aspects of this large topic, including test-cell set up, data management, dynamometer selection and use, air, thermal, combustion, mechanical, and emissions assessment* Most automotive engineers are involved with many aspects covered by this book, making it a must-have reference
