Book New Advances on Chaotic Intermittency and its Applications

Download or read book New Advances on Chaotic Intermittency and its Applications written by Sergio Elaskar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important routes to chaos is the chaotic intermittency. However, there are many cases that do not agree with the classical theoretical predictions. In this book, an extended theory for intermittency in one-dimensional maps is presented. A new general methodology to evaluate the reinjection probability density function (RPD) is developed in Chapters 5 to 8. The key of this formulation is the introduction of a new function, called M(x), which is used to calculate the RPD function. The function M(x) depends on two integrals. This characteristic reduces the influence on the statistical fluctuations in the data series. Also, the function M(x) is easy to evaluate from the data series, even for a small number of numerical or experimental data. As a result, a more general form for the RPD is found; where the classical theory based on uniform reinjection is recovered as a particular case. The characteristic exponent traditionally used to characterize the intermittency type, is now a function depending on the whole map, not just on the local map. Also, a new analytical approach to obtain the RPD from the mathematical expression of the map is presented. In this way all cases of non standard intermittencies are included in the same frame work. This methodology is extended to evaluate the noisy reinjection probability density function (NRPD), the noisy probability of the laminar length and the noisy characteristic relation. This is an important difference with respect to the classical approach based on the Fokker-Plank equation or Renormalization Group theory, where the noise effect was usually considered just on the local Poincaré map. Finally, in Chapter 9, a new scheme to evaluate the RPD function using the Perron-Frobenius operator is developed. Along the book examples of applications are described, which have shown very good agreement with numerical computations.

Book Synthesis and Modelling of Intermittent Estuaries

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on the findings of, and swnmarizes the conclusions from, the Port Hacking Estuary Project, a model-guided, multidisciplinary study of an estuarine ecosystem. The Project began in 1973, at a time when it was thought that environmental problems could be solved readily by assembling a multidisciplinary team of research scientists and having them co-ordinate their research around the construction of an ecosystem model. But a decade has passed and time has not been easy on this approach. The anticipated predictive dynamic models have not been produced and bitter argument has often marred the course of such studies. Yet the need to anticipate the flow of various chemical species (carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, toxicants) through the environment remains: the evidence is everywhere, from fertilization of urban lakes to acid rain. The magnitude of the problem ensures that funds will continue to be made available - although with short-term variations as perceptions swing. It is thus clear that although the difficulties are great, so is the need. It is from this background that we present this book. The Port Hacking Estuary Project involved some 15 - 20 research scientists over a period of 5 years. The goal was to research the flow of carbon into, within, and out of a small unpolluted estuary chosen for convenience rather than for its social significance. The idea was to use the information obtained from these studies to build a predictive dynamic model.

Book Rethinking How to Support Intermittent Renewables

Download or read book Rethinking How to Support Intermittent Renewables written by Patrick A. Narbel and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermittent renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power, typically remain more expensive than conventional power sources. As a consequence, few intermittent power projects would have been deployed if specific policy instruments had not been implemented. Existing policy instruments facilitating the deployment of intermittent renewable energy technologies include the feed-in tariff, the feed-in premium and the quota system. Based on a numerical analysis, it is shown that these specific policy instruments do not necessarily facilitate the deployment of valuable energy sources because they ignore the cost of intermittency. A valuable intermittent energy source is defined here as a source of energy which requires little financial support and which limits the need for capacity payments in order to ensure the security of supply. Based on insights from the numerical analysis, a new policy instrument is suggested: a multiplicative premium. This type of policy instrument would increase the likelihood that valuable intermittent energy assets are deployed in priority.

Book Technical consultation to assess evidence on community based delivery of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy for malaria

Download or read book Technical consultation to assess evidence on community based delivery of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy for malaria written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This technical consultation, held virtually from 21–23 June 2022, was organized to assess evidence on community-based delivery of IPTp (c-IPTp) and discuss with partners involved in research and implementation of community-based intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy. The meeting report summarizes the discussions and outcome of the consultation as these will subsequently serve as the basis for the development of new implementation guidance on the topic.
