Book Collider Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vernon D. Barger
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2018-05-30
  • ISBN : 0429973691
  • Pages : 419 pages

Download or read book Collider Physics written by Vernon D. Barger and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-30 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated edition of Collider Physics surveys the major developments in theoretical and experimental particle physics and uses numerous illustrations to show how the Standard Model explains the experimental results. Collider Physics offers an introduction to the fundamental particles and their interactions at the level of a lecture course for graduate students, with emphasis on the aspects most closely related to colliders--past, present, and future. It includes expectations for new physics associated with Higgs bosons and supersymmetry. This resourceful book shows how to make practical calculations and serves a dual purpose as a textbook and a handbook for collider physics phenomenology.

Book Indirect Searches for New Physics

Download or read book Indirect Searches for New Physics written by Alexey A. Petrov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to discuss the search for new physics in charged leptons, neutrons, and quarks in one coherent volume. The area of indirect searches for new physics is highly topical; though no new physics particles have yet been observed directly at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the methods described in this book will provide researchers with the necessary tools to keep searching for new physics. It describes the lines of research that attempt to identify quantum effects of new physics particles in low-energy experiments, in addition to detailing the mathematical basis and theoretical and phenomenological methods involved in the searches, whilst making a clear distinction between model-dependent and model-independent methods employed to make predictions. This book will be a valuable guide for graduate students and early-career researchers in particle and high energy physics who wish to learn about the techniques used in modern predictions of new physics effects at low energies, whilst also serving as a reference for researchers at other levels. Key features: • Takes an accessible, pedagogical approach suitable for graduate students and those seeking an overview of this new and fast-growing field • Illustrates common theoretical trends seen in different subfields of particle physics • Valuable both for researchers in the phenomenology of elementary particles and for experimentalists

Book The Physics Of Massive Neutrinos

Download or read book The Physics Of Massive Neutrinos written by F Gibrat-debu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1989-02-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the physics and phenomenology of massive neutrinos. The authors argue that neutrino mass is not unlikely and consider briefly the search for evidence of this mass in decay processes before they examine the physics and phenomenology of neutrino oscillation. The physics of Majorana neutrinos (neutrinos which are their own antiparticles) is then discussed. This volume requires of the reader only a knowledge of quantum mechanics and of very elementary quantum field theory.

Book The Physics of Neutrinos

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vernon Barger
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2012-09-30
  • ISBN : 1400845599
  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book The Physics of Neutrinos written by Vernon Barger and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of neutrinos--uncharged elementary particles that are key to helping us better understand the nature of our universe--is one of the most exciting frontiers of modern science. This book provides a comprehensive overview of neutrino physics today and explores promising new avenues of inquiry that could lead to future breakthroughs. The Physics of Neutrinos begins with a concise history of the field and a tutorial on the fundamental properties of neutrinos, and goes on to discuss how the three neutrino types interchange identities as they propagate from their sources to detectors. The book shows how studies of neutrinos produced by such phenomena as cosmic rays in the atmosphere and nuclear reactions in the solar interior provide striking evidence that neutrinos have mass, and it traces our astounding progress in deciphering the baffling experimental findings involving neutrinos. The discovery of neutrino mass offers the first indication of a new kind of physics that goes beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles, and this book considers the unanticipated patterns in the masses and mixings of neutrinos in the framework of proposed new theoretical models. The Physics of Neutrinos maps out the ambitious future facilities and experiments that will advance our knowledge of neutrinos, and explains why the way forward in solving the outstanding questions in neutrino science will require the collective efforts of particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.

Book Massive Neutrinos

Download or read book Massive Neutrinos written by Harald Fritzsch and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the discovery of neutrino oscillations neutrino physics has become an interesting field of research in physics. They imply that neutrino must have a small mass and that the neutrinos, coupled to the charged leptons, are mixtures of the mass eigenstates, analogous to the flavor mixing of the quarks. The mixing angles for the quarks are small, but for the leptons two of the mixing angles are large. The masses of the three neutrinos must be very small, less than 1 eV, but from the oscillation experiments we only know the mass differences -- the absolute masses are still unknown. Also we do not know, if the masses of the neutrinos are Dirac masses, as the masses of the charged leptons and of the quarks, or whether they are Majorana masses. In this volume, an overview of the present state of research in neutrino physics is given by well-known experimentalists and theorists. The contents -- originated from talks and discussions at a recent conference addressing some of the most pressing open questions in neutrino physics -- range from the oscillation experiments to CP-violation for leptons, to texture zero mass matrices and to the role of neutrinos in astrophysics and cosmology.
