Book excerpt: Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Interkulturelle Pädagogik, Note: 1,00, Universität Wien (Fakultät für Psychologie), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zur Zeit des größten wirtschaftlichen Wachstums in Österreich in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren entstand ein Mangel an Arbeitskräften. Durch die Rekrutierung von Gastarbeitern aus der Türkei und Jugoslawien versuchte man dieses Problem zu lösen. Ursprünglich sollten diese Arbeiter für einige Jahre in Österreich arbeiten und anschließend wieder in ihre Heimat zurückkehren und durch neue ersetzt werden (Fleck, 2002). Mit der Zeit holten immer mehr Gastarbeiter ihre Familien zu sich nach Österreich, um sich hier eine neue Existenz aufzubauen. Neben der Zuwanderung der Gastarbeiter führte auch Anfang der 1990er Jahre der Krieg im ehemaligen Jugoslawien dazu, dass Flüchtlinge aus diesem Kriegsgebiet nach Österreich kamen. Daher stellen ZuwanderInnen bzw. Flüchtlinge aus dem ehemaligen Jugoslawien und der Türkei die größten Immigrantengruppen in Österreich dar. Die Veränderung des Bevölkerungsbildes in Österreich machte sich auch im Schulalltag bemerkbar. Seit Beginn der 1970er Jahre steigt die Zahl der SchülerInnen mit nicht deutscher Muttersprache, vorallem in Wien, stetig an (Fleck, 2002). Im Schuljahr 2004/2005 (bm: bwk, 2006) hatten 16,7% aller SchülerInnen der allgemein bildenden Pflichtschulen und 10,2% aller SchülerInnen allgemein bildender höherer Schulen in Österreich eine andere Erstsprache als Deutsch. In Wien, wo der Großteil der MigrantInnen lebt, haben 45,9% aller SchülerInnen der allgemein bildenden Pflichtschule eine andere Erstsprache als Deutsch. In den Hauptschulen und Polytechnischen Lehrgängen sind dies die Hälfte aller SchülerInnen.
