Book Interior Landscape Dictionary

Download or read book Interior Landscape Dictionary written by Joelle Steele and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1993-01-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practically all books written on interior landscape address the needs of home gardeners or the more detailed needs of business owners and researchers. Technicians, trainees, and advanced personnel alike--those who must maintain large interior installations on a commercial level--have not had ready access to information often critical to performing their job successfully. Finally, here is a dictionary specifically compiled for the interior landscape professional. It fills the gap in the literature by covering all terms that apply to interior landscaping. Definitions of more than 1,000 interior landscape terms are listed in alphabetical order for easy access. Each definition is brief but thorough to provide the right depth needed by the working professional. Although terms are described at a level that requires no background in the science of horticulture, the Interior Landscape Dictionary also provides technical terminology for those who require it. Nearly 130 illustrations--including 70 photographs--make it easy to identify specific plants and treatment for various plant diseases and pests. Detailed appendices cover both Latin and common plant nomenclature, pronunciation of Latin names, and lists of additional reading materials for reference. Unlike other botanical dictionaries that have too few illustrations and too many complex definitions, the Interior Landscape Dictionary has the right blend of information and format for the daily needs of interior landscapers. It is a valuable reference source for professionals and trainees in the fields of landscape architecture and management, interior design, horticulture, architecture, and plant science.

Book The Interior Landscape

Download or read book The Interior Landscape written by and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic anthology of translations has long been out of print. The poems come from one of the earliest surviving texts of Tamil poetry, the Kuruntokai, an anthology of love lyrics probably recorded during the first three centuries AD. Seventy-six of these classical poems have here beengiven a modern language and form. In an effort at fidelity to the effect of the images and their placement in the original, Ramanujan has given a visual shape to the poems by typographic devices. An essay on Tamil poetry explains its techniques and enriches the reader's pleasure in these quiet, controlled, yet dramatic poems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cars, single-family houses, fallout shelters, air-conditioned malls—these are only some of the many interiors making up the landscape of American suburbia. Indoor America explores the history of suburbanization through the emergence of such spaces in the postwar years, examining their design, use, and representation. By drawing on a wealth of examples ranging from the built environment to popular culture and film, Andrea Vesentini shows how suburban interiors were devised as a continuous cultural landscape of interconnected and self-sufficient escape capsules. The relocation of most everyday practices into indoor spaces has often been overlooked by suburban historiography; Indoor America uncovers this latent history and contrasts it with the dominant reading of suburbanization as pursuit of open space. Americans did not just flee the city by getting out of it—they did so also by getting inside. Vesentini chronicles this inner-directed flight by describing three separate stages. The encapsulation of the automobile fostered the nuclear segregation of the family from the social fabric and served as a blueprint for all other interiors. Introverted design increasingly turned the focus of the house inward. Finally, through interiorization, the exterior was incorporated into the all-encompassing interior landscape of enclosed malls and projects for indoor cities. In a journey that features tailfin cars and World’s Fair model homes, Richard Neutra’s glass walls and sitcom picture windows, Victor Gruen’s Southdale Center and the Minnesota Experimental City, Indoor America takes the reader into the heart and viscera of America’s urban sprawl.

Book The Interior Landscape

Download or read book The Interior Landscape written by Guy Tal and published by Rocky Nook, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply thoughtful and inspiring collection of essays about visual expression, art, creativity, and a life in photography

Photographer, teacher, and author Guy Tal has been photographing the landscape for more than 30 years, and in that time he has also been consistently contributing to the literature of photography, writing not about the technical aspects of the photograph—the gear, the exposure details, the “secrets to getting a great shot”—but about the deeper topics of visual expression, creativity, art, and life.

Building on the legacy of his previous best-selling books More Than a Rock and Another Day Not Wasted, as well as his work as a regular contributor to LensWork and On Landscape magazines, The Interior Landscape is a collection of more than 60 brief essays, packaged in a beautiful hardcover format and illustrated throughout with Guy's stunning photography.

Organized into four parts, Guy discusses:

    • Creativity and expression as the most significant aspects of making art
    • The controversial and tenuous relationship between photography (by design a medium for objective representation) and art (by definition the subjective expressions of the imagination of artists)
    • How he has formed a relationship with, and found meaning in, the natural landscape, and how he expresses these meanings in his photographs
    • Lessons learned from more than three decades of practicing expressive landscape photography

The Interior Landscape is for anyone interested in, as the title suggests, turning inward to explore creativity, art, expression, and the landscape. It is sure to illuminate, educate, and inspire you on your photographic journey.

Book excerpt: Snoehetta, one of Scandinaviaa (TM)s leading architecture practices, seeks to develop its architectures within a continuous state of reinvention. Every project differs a " only elementary aspects related to a broad sense of context generate core discussions when developing early concepts. Every architect is an individual a " only referring her or himself to the social context of Snoehetta generates core values of communal thinking. The projects are examples of attitudes rather than designs. They are samples rather than products. They are associative rather than symbolic. They are comments rather than statements. The book describes the collective methods used when exercising the search for solutions to complex realities and shows Snoehettaa (TM)s architecture as a self-referential art within the uncertainties generated by the influence of our contemporary society. Projects like the library of Alexandria, the new opera house in Oslo or the Ras al Khaima gateway exemplify the intentions of the architects and give a hint of how they comment on given preconditions.
