Book On the Coexistence of Ultra Wideband UWB Wireless Communication Systems with Narrowband Interference

Download or read book On the Coexistence of Ultra Wideband UWB Wireless Communication Systems with Narrowband Interference written by Amir Hosain Jodar and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra wideband (UWB) communication is based on the transmission of short pulses on the order of nanoseconds. As a result, UWB systems operate over dedicated spectrum bands already occupied by other narrowband systems. Because a UWB device spreads its energy over a large frequency range, it radiates a small percentage of its total power in the operating spectrum of narrowband receivers. Consequently, UWB signals appear as low-power noise and have little impact on underlying operating devices. However, the interference coming from narrowband systems operating in the spectrum allotted for UWB use could be problematic. This thesis contains two main investigations. In the first investigation, we analyze the coexistence of time-hopping pulse amplitude modulation UWB systems in the presence of narrowband interference exploiting additive white Gaussian noise and flat-fading channels. The second investigation deals with the coexistence of UWB systems with narrowband interference based on experimentation.

Book Smart Radio Interference Mitigation Techniques for Mutual Coexistence

Download or read book Smart Radio Interference Mitigation Techniques for Mutual Coexistence written by Siddharth Shetty and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Thesis focuses on an interference mitigation technique called Detect And Avoid (DAA), a terminology that was made popular by Ultrawideband technology. This report specifically addresses design and implementation challenges associated with DAA in the context of coexistence between UWB and WiMAX technologies. However the design problems, implementation issues and candidate solutions discussed herein are generic enough to be applicable to other radio architectures that use similar core building blocks, particularly for digital radio implementations that contain Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) engines. Another important aspect highlighted in this report is the impact of non-technical considerations such as regulatory requirements and cost implications on choice of certain approaches over others. Such considerations can be decisive from a hardware design perspective especially in low-cost, low-power consumer electronics market.

Book Performance Analysis and Effect of Multi user Interference for Ultra Wideband Communications

Download or read book Performance Analysis and Effect of Multi user Interference for Ultra Wideband Communications written by Mukta Athavale and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is an upcoming technology for short-range high data rate applications like Wireless Personal Area Networks or medium/long-range low data rate applications like sensor networks. UWB has many captivating characteristics such as very short duration pulses (order of nanoseconds), multipath channel, large instantaneous bandwidth and time hopping pulse trains resulting in coexistence with the existing narrow band users. The Ultra Wideband communication systems employ the technique of Impulse radio of transmitting short duration pulses which result in extremely wide bandwidth and many performance benefits. Since UWB systems operate in dense multipath environments, RAKE receiver is the optimum choice for the receiver. Considering the evolving nature and the wide applications of this technology, it is important to analyze the system performance for different scenarios including the multi-user environment. My thesis mainly targets the analysis of the bit error rate (BER) performance of the time hopping pulse position modulation (TH-PPM) UWB system with the use of Ideal Rake Receiver and the performance degradation when the Selective and Partial Rake receivers are employed. I have also analyzed the effect of changing the repletion code length on the performance. The performance analysis is carried out for varying the modulation index M by employing 4-PPM instead of Binary PPM and simulation results show that 4-PPM offers a worse performance to the binary PPM case. Furthermore, I have evaluated the performance in the presence of Multiuser Interference using the Standard Gaussian Approximation. Finally, the performance of employing M-ary PPM in the multi-user scenario is also evaluated. The simulations are performed under the assumption of perfect channel knowledge. The IEEE UWB indoor channel model is used for Non Line of Sight (NLOS) Case C which is for 4 to 10 m distance between the transmitter and the receiver.

Book Interference Rejection and Management

Download or read book Interference Rejection and Management written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider interference suppression in several wireless communication systems. The first topic treated is self-interference encountered among cooperating systems, for example, the self-interference that is encountered in cognitive radio systems and ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems. Both single-carrier, direct sequence signals and multicarrier signals are considered, and the effects of the interference on the performance of a direct sequence UWB system that employs channel state estimation in the presence of the interference is evaluated. The second topic that is treated is the mitigation of narrowband interference in block-modulated multicarrier systems. Two schemes, multicarrier code-division multiple access (MC-CDMA) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), are investigated. The inherent frequency diversity of MC-CDMA through the use of spreading codes allows for robustness against interference. Conversely, OFDM must employ a signal processing technique to suppress the interference due to its lack of frequency diversity. The performance of OFDM is improved with the addition of forward error correction (FEC) coding in the frequency domain, thereby providing the system with frequency diversity. The third topic is the suppression of interference in multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) wireless communication systems that employ multiple-transmit and multiple-receive antennas to increase the data rate and achieve signal diversity in fading multipath channels. Interference in MIMO wireless communication systems usually consists of intersymbol interference (ISI) due to channel multipath dispersion and cross-talk, or interchannel interference, due to the simultaneous transmissions from the multiple-transmit antennas. The focus of the section is on point-to-multipoint (broadcast) MIMO systems in which the channel characteristics are assumed to be known at the transmitter, so that interference mitigation can be performed at the transmitter.
