This book was released on 1988 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An overview of the theoretical and experimental aspects of the recently discovered superconducting compounds is presented. This overview is divided into three sections. In the first section a review of some of the theoretical and computational works is presented under the subsections entitled pairing mechanisms, electronic structure calculations and thermophysical properties. In the second section surface and interface chemistry issues related to the fabrication and use of high-temperature superconductors for high-performance applications are presented. Specific issues that are discussed include metallization and the formation of stable ohmic contacts, and chemically-stable overlayers that are suitable for passivation, protection and encapsulation of superconducting material structures that can then be used under a wide range of environmental conditions. Lastly, issues are discussed that are related to each of the bulk high-temperature superconducting ceramic oxides which have received so much attention the past two years. These include Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 with a critical temperature of 125 K, which is the current record. Keywords: Overview, High temperature, Superconductivity, Theory, Surfaces, Interfaces, Bulk systems. Book Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity

Download or read book Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity written by V.P. Mineev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-09-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unconventional superconductivity (or superconductivity with a nontrivial Cooper pairing) is believed to exist in many heavy-fermion materials as well as in high temperature superconductors, and is a subject of great theoretical and experimental interest. The remarkable progress achieved in this field has not been reflected in published monographs and textbooks, and there is a gap between current research and the standard education of solid state physicists in the theory of superconductivity. This book is intended to meet this information need and includes the authors' original results.

Book High Temperature Interface Superconductivity

Download or read book High Temperature Interface Superconductivity written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Tc superconductivity at interfaces has a history of more than a couple of decades. In this review we focus our attention on copper-oxide based heterostructures and multi-layers. We first discuss the technique, atomic layer-by-layer molecular beam epitaxy (ALL-MBE) engineering, that enabled High-Tc Interface Superconductivity (HT-IS), and the challenges associated with the realization of high quality interfaces. Then we turn our attention to the experiments which shed light on the structure and properties of interfacial layers, allowing comparison to those of single-phase films and bulk crystals. Both 'passive' hetero-structures as well as surface-induced effects by external gating are discussed. Here, we conclude by comparing HT-IS in cuprates and in other classes of materials, especially Fe-based superconductors, and by examining the grand challenges currently laying ahead for the field.

Book High Tc Superconductor Thin Films

Book High Resolution Photoemission Studies of Interfaces in High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book High Resolution Photoemission Studies of Interfaces in High Tc Superconductors written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our research has involved using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) as a nano-scale probe of the electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces of high-temperature superconductors. Photoemission has provided unique and valuable information because of its surface sensitivity, excellent energy resolution, and ability to detect core-level chemical shifts. The information has strong implications for a fundamental understanding of the electronic structure of the cuprates as well as the construction of practical devices such as Josephson junctions. We will focus on: (1) description of custom-designed thin film samples of high temperature superconductors (HTSC) and the development of methods to study them with ARPES, (2) electronic structure measurements using ARPES, including the measurement of energy gaps, (3) the implications for characteristics of devices using HTSC, and (4) proximity effect searches.

Download or read book Superconducting State written by Vladimir Kresin and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-24 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with a detailed theoretical treatment of the key mechanisms of superconductivity, up to the current state of the art (phonons, magnons, plasmons). In addition, the book describes the properties of key superconducting compounds that are of most interest for science and its applications today. For many years there has been a search for new materials with higher values of the main parameters, such as the critical temperature and the critical current. At present, the possibility to observe superconductivity at room temperature has become perfectly realistic. The book is especially concerned with high Tc systems, such as the high Tc oxides, hydrides with record values of the critical temperature under high pressure, nanoclusters, etc. A number of interesting novel superconducting systems have been discovered recently. Among them: topological materials, interface systems, intercalated graphene. The book contains rigorous derivations, based on statistical mechanics and many-body theory. The book is also providing qualitative explanations of the main concepts and results, which makes it accessible and interesting for a broader readership.

Book High Tc Superconducting Technology

Download or read book High Tc Superconducting Technology written by Muralidhar Miryala and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mitigating climate change, clean environment, global peace, financial growth, and future development of the world require new materials that improve the quality of life. Superconductivity, in general, allows perfect current transmission without losses. This makes it a valuable resource for sustainability in several aspects. High-temperature superconducting (HTSC) materials will be crucial for sustainable everyday applications and more attractive for the United Nations’ SDGs. Superconducting magnets can be used as high-field magnets in magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear magnetic resonance, water purification, magnetic drug delivery, etc. Hunger can be partly avoided if there is sustainability in agriculture. In the future, DC electric energy from solar plants in Africa could be transported worldwide, especially to cold countries, using superconducting cables. Superconducting technology is an efficient way to create sustainability as well as reduce greenhouse gases. This book presents the latest global achievements in the processing and applications of high-Tc superconductors and discusses the usefulness of the SDGs. It summarizes the related advances in materials science and developments with respect to the SDGs. The book also covers large-scale applications of HTSC materials, which will be connected to the SDGs, addressed by several eminent scientists, including Prof. M. Murakami, president, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan; Prof. D. Cardwell, pro-vice chancellor, University of Cambridge, UK; and Prof. N. Long, director, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
