Download or read book Educational Curricula written by Jennifer N. Casey and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In formal education, a curriculum (plural curricula) is the set of courses, and their content, offered at a school or university. As an idea, curriculum stems from the Latin word for race course, referring to the course of deeds and experiences through which children grow and mature in becoming adults. Crucial to the curriculum is the definition of the course objectives that usually are expressed as learning outcomes and normally include the program's assessment strategy. These outcomes and assessments are grouped as units (or modules), and, therefore, the curriculum comprises a collection of such units, each, in turn, comprising a specialised, specific part of the curriculum. So, a typical curriculum includes communications, numeracy, information technology, and social skills units, with specific, specialised teaching of each. This book presents research on educational curricula from around the world.

The growth of e-learning is being described as explosive, unprecedented, and above all, disruptive. This timely and comprehensive book provides a coherent framework for understanding e-learning in higher education. The authors draw on their extensive research in the area to explore the technological, pedagogical and organisational implications of e-learning, and more importantly, they provide practical models for educators to use to realise the full potential of e-learning. A unique feature of the book is that the authors focus less on the ever-evolving technologies and more on the search for an understanding of these technologies from an educational perspective. This book will be invaluable for researchers, practitioners and senior administrators looking for guidance on how to successfully adopt e-learning in their institutions. It will also appeal to anyone with an interest in the impact of e-learning on higher education and society.

Download or read book Distance Education Technologies in Asia written by Jon Baggaley and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2010-11-10 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Asia, Distance Education (DE) is providing major solutions in the areas of education and training. DE methods that are standard in other parts of the world, however, have yet to demonstrate their full potential in Asia. Covering nine DE projects by 39 researchers from 13 countries, this book analyses the DE scenario in Asia, the successes, the failures and the reasons behind them. This book is a unique collation of the results of studies of educational technologies across an extensive network of Asian countries. It also provides a useful snapshot of DE's development in Asia in the early years of the 21st century. The surveys reported cover different DE contexts, methodologies, and levels of generalisability, and add to the existing scholarship on the subject by providing previously unavailable, firm evidence about DE's prospects in Asia. The contributors give important recommendations that can be translated into practical and political actions to help solve critical socio-economic problems of Asia as well as other parts of the world.

Download or read book Interactive Videoconferencing and Collaborative Distance Learning for K 12 Students and Teachers written by Panagiotes S. Anastasiades and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) under pedagogical conditions can play a vital role in the structure of modern school. Interactive Videoconferencing (IVC) is a significant tool at the disposal of teachers and students, so that they can design and implement collaborative Learning activities at a distance. The application of videoconferencing in schools is significantly increasing but there is an obvious lack in the pedagogical design of educational videoconferencing programs. Technology alone is not efficient enough and there is a demand for a holistic pedagogical framework and a practical guide for the development and implementation of collaborative learning environments at a distance via videoconferencing. This book covers this need and supports schools, teachers and content providers to develop a variety of interactive educational programs through videoconferencing, aiming at the opening up of school to new learning, social and cultural environments. The pedagogical utilisation of VC broadens the horizons in communication and collaboration in school classrooms world-wide, thus contributing greatly to the active participation of students in authentic environments of exploration and collaborative structure of knowledge and to the development of vital social skills
Download or read book Essential Questions written by Jay McTighe and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are "essential questions," and how do they differ from other kinds of questions? What's so great about them? Why should you design and use essential questions in your classroom? Essential questions (EQs) help target standards as you organize curriculum content into coherent units that yield focused and thoughtful learning. In the classroom, EQs are used to stimulate students' discussions and promote a deeper understanding of the content. Whether you are an Understanding by Design (UbD) devotee or are searching for ways to address standards—local or Common Core State Standards—in an engaging way, Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins provide practical guidance on how to design, initiate, and embed inquiry-based teaching and learning in your classroom. Offering dozens of examples, the authors explore the usefulness of EQs in all K-12 content areas, including skill-based areas such as math, PE, language instruction, and arts education. As an important element of their backward design approach to designing curriculum, instruction, and assessment, the authors *Give a comprehensive explanation of why EQs are so important; *Explore seven defining characteristics of EQs; *Distinguish between topical and overarching questions and their uses; *Outline the rationale for using EQs as the focal point in creating units of study; and *Show how to create effective EQs, working from sources including standards, desired understandings, and student misconceptions. Using essential questions can be challenging—for both teachers and students—and this book provides guidance through practical and proven processes, as well as suggested "response strategies" to encourage student engagement. Finally, you will learn how to create a culture of inquiry so that all members of the educational community—students, teachers, and administrators—benefit from the increased rigor and deepened understanding that emerge when essential questions become a guiding force for learners of all ages.
