Book Interactive Collaborative Information Systems

Download or read book Interactive Collaborative Information Systems written by Robert Babuška and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-21 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing complexity of our world demands new perspectives on the role of technology in human decision making. We need new technology to cope with the increasingly complex and information-rich nature of our modern society. This is particularly true for critical environments such as crisis management and traffic management, where humans need to engage in close collaborations with artificial systems to observe and understand the situation and respond in a sensible way. The book Interactive Collaborative Information Systems addresses techniques that support humans in situations in which complex information handling is required and that facilitate distributed decision-making. The theme integrates research from information technology, artificial intelligence and human sciences to obtain a multidisciplinary foundation from which innovative actor-agent systems for critical environments can emerge. It emphasizes the importance of building actor-agent communities: close collaborations between human and artificial actors that highlight their complementary capabilities in situations where task distribution is flexible and adaptive. This book focuses on the employment of innovative agent technology, advanced machine learning techniques, and cognition-based interface technology for the use in collaborative decision support systems.

Book Interactive Collaborative Learning

Download or read book Interactive Collaborative Learning written by Michael E. Auer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-07 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning, held 21-23 September 2016 at Clayton Hotel in Belfast, UK. We are currently witnessing a significant transformation in the development of education. The impact of globalisation on all areas of human life, the exponential acceleration of developments in both technology and the global markets, and the growing need for flexibility and agility are essential and challenging elements of this process that have to be addressed in general, but especially in the context of engineering education. To face these topical and very real challenges, higher education is called upon to find innovative responses. Since being founded in 1998, this conference has consistently been devoted to finding new approaches to learning, with a focus on collaborative learning. Today the ICL conferences have established themselves as a vital forum for the exchange of information on key trends and findings, and of practical lessons learned while developing and testing elements of new technologies and pedagogies in learning.

Book Collaborative Information Seeking

Download or read book Collaborative Information Seeking written by Chirag Shah and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-04 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s complex, information-intensive problems often require people to work together. Mostly these tasks go far beyond simply searching together; they include information lookup, sharing, synthesis, and decision-making. In addition, they all have an end-goal that is mutually beneficial to all parties involved. Such “collaborative information seeking” (CIS) projects typically last several sessions and the participants all share an intention to contribute and benefit. Not surprisingly, these processes are highly interactive. Shah focuses on two individually well-understood notions: collaboration and information seeking, with the goal of bringing them together to show how it is a natural tendency for humans to work together on complex tasks. The first part of his book introduces the general notions of collaboration and information seeking, as well as related concepts, terminology, and frameworks; and thus provides the reader with a comprehensive treatment of the concepts underlying CIS. The second part of the book details CIS as a standalone domain. A series of frameworks, theories, and models are introduced to provide a conceptual basis for CIS. The final part describes several systems and applications of CIS, along with their broader implications on other fields such as computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) and human-computer interaction (HCI). With this first comprehensive overview of an exciting new research field, Shah delivers to graduate students and researchers in academia and industry an encompassing description of the technologies involved, state-of-the-art results, and open challenges as well as research opportunities.

Book Human Computer Interaction and Management Information Systems Applications Advances in Management Information Systems

Download or read book Human Computer Interaction and Management Information Systems Applications Advances in Management Information Systems written by Dennis F. Galletta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Human-Computer Interaction and Management Information Systems: Applications" offers state-of-the-art research by a distinguished set of authors who span the MIS and HCI fields. The original chapters provide authoritative commentaries and in-depth descriptions of research programs that will guide 21st century scholars, graduate students, and industry professionals. Human-Computer Interaction (or Human Factors) in MIS is concerned with the ways humans interact with information, technologies, and tasks, especially in business, managerial, organizational, and cultural contexts. It is distinctive in many ways when compared with HCI studies in other disciplines. The MIS perspective affords special importance to managerial and organizational contexts by focusing on analysis of tasks and outcomes at a level that considers organizational effectiveness. With the recent advancement of technologies and development of many sophisticated applications, human-centeredness in MIS has become more critical than ever before. This work focuses on applications and evaluations including special case studies, specific contexts or tasks, HCI methodological concerns, and the use and adoption process.
