Pour ce faire, nous avons choisi d'analyser des interactions verbales en classe de langue, d'analyser des discours des formateurs sur leurs propres pratiques et l'évaluation des compétences langagières et professionnelles de leurs étudiants, d'étudier les pratiques langagières des étudiants lors de leurs stages à l'école secondaire. Ces indispensables investigations nous ont permis de mettre au jour le besoin d'une grande palette communicative et interactionnelle, centrée sur les actes de langage professionnels, chez l'enseignant dans sa classe. Ce besoin peut être satisfait peu à peu à travers les séances d’AP, que nous avons expérimentées à titre d'innovation, qui ouvrent sans doute un espace de construction identitaire professionnelle qui pourrait être adéquate pour développer les diverses compétences d'un enseignant de langue, particulièrement dans un contexte asiatique. Cette recherche ouvre donc la voie à une perspective didactique professionnelle, qui permettra de perfectionner au moins la formation professionnalisante de futurs enseignants de langues à l'Université de Pédagogie de Ho Chi Minh-Ville, Viet Nam.

When the general public was asked how the education system was performing, 76 percent of respondents had a positive opinion; and these satisfaction rates have been consistently high over the years. However, perception of education quality does not reflect the reality of the sector; and learning outcomes, which are the determining metrics of success in education, have been lower than the international average, with a declining trend since 2007. This volume seeks to uncover why the education system in Lebanon is not reaching its full potential. It uses a political economy approach to study the drivers and factors that guide education operations to produce and utilize education outcomes. This includes the study of context, stakeholders, and processes that shape education policies, institutions, and activities. It also aims to identify enablers of and constraints on policy change and implementation, as well as the achievement of results. In this context, the analysis encompasses how education policies are developed; how education consumables—such as curricula, textbooks, and learning materials—are produced, distributed, and used by learners; how education services are delivered and monitored; and how achieved results are measured. It includes the identification of the most influential actors in the education arena, as well as their vested interests. It also examines unfavorable frameworks for action that are likely to block the adoption of reforms and delay or derail their implementation. The system-level analysis presented in this volume used a mixed-method approach. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted based on a review and analysis of more than 1,900 research papers, articles, and books; laws and policies; expenditures; trends; and enrollment and outcome indicators. Primary methods of inquiry were also used and included interviews, focus group discussions, and a household-based perception survey.

Chapter one has been largely rewritten to give an outline of current approaches to a model of comprehension of spoken language. Chapter two has a new initial section but otherwise remains as it was. Chapter three incorporates a new section on "pause" and how this interacts with rhythm, and rather more on the function of stress. Chapter four has an extended initial section but otherwise remains largely as it was. Chapter five on intonation contains several sections which have been rewritten to varying extents. Chapter six of the first edition has disappeared: in 1977, very little work had been published on "fillers" and it seemed worthwhile incorporating a chapter that sat rather oddly with the phonetic/phonological interests of the rest of the book. Not that there is a great industry of descriptions of the forms and functions of these and similar phenomena there seems no reason to retain this early but admittedly primitive account. The chapter on "paralinguistic vocal features", now chapter six, has some rewriting in the early part but considerable rewriting in the last sections. The final chapter on "teaching listening comprehension" has grown greatly in length. It still incorporates some material from the original chapter but most of it is completely rewritten.
