Book Hadron Production in S nucleus Collisions at 200 GeV

Download or read book Hadron Production in S nucleus Collisions at 200 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Central collisions between nuclei at relativistic energies form a hot and dense hadronic system over a large volume. Phenomenological models, as well as QCD calculations on the lattice, predict a phase transition in nuclear matter leading to deconfinement, a state of matter in which quarks and gluons are free to move inside the entire volume of the deconfined region. This new state was given the name of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). Based on the conjecture that collisions of heavy nuclei at high energies can create the necessary condition of a high energy density thermalized system, a series of experiments were built to search for possible signals of QGP creation. The NA35 collaboration uses a wide acceptance apparatus at the CERN SPS which detects the majority of charged hadrons (h{sup {+-}}), and neutral strange particles produced in reactions of p, 16O and 32S projectiles at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon lab momentum on different targets. It consists of two major tracking devices which provide the momentum measurement of the charged particles: a 2 m long streamer chamber (SC) which is placed inside a 1.5 T vertex magnet, viewed by three cameras, and a 2.5x1.5x1.0 m3 Time Projection Chamber (TPC). A set of calorimeters was used as the basic trigger device of the experiment, to select central (small impact parameter) collisions. In the data presented here, a calorimeter placed in the beam path selects near head-on collisions, i.e. events where only a small amount of energy (mostly spectator nucleon energy) was detected in an angular acceptance of less than 0.3 degrees around the beam axis. The data sample consists of three systems: S+S, S+Ag and S+Au at 200 GeV/c with trigger cross section of 3, 3.2 and 6% of the total inelastic cross section, respectively.

Book Hadron Physics 96 Topics On The Structure And Interaction Of Hadronic Systems Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book Hadron Physics 96 Topics On The Structure And Interaction Of Hadronic Systems Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Erasmo Ferreira and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-05-05 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of QCD in the confinement regime poses some of the most difficult problems of fundamental physics at present. The mechanism of confinement is not yet understood, and it is hard to investigate the properties of the fundamental theory in the determination of the structures and interactions of hadronic systems. As a consequence of these difficulties, the frontier between effective and fundamental theories has been intensively investigated in the last few years, and progress has been achieved in several directions. The 'Hadron Physics' workshop gathered together experts who have been taking the lead in these developments in recent years. Four sets of lectures were presented, providing a pedagogical and updated basis that gives support to research work in frontier problems. This book puts together the main current methods in the study of the properties of hadrons. The perspective of future developments based on different approaches can then be more clearly perceived.

Book excerpt: The Conference OC Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the CenturyOCO was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleus-nucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects. Contents: Many-Body Methods in Nuclear Structure; Hadron Dynamics: Strange Hadro-Dynamics; Mesons, Baryons, Antibaryons; Hadron Structure and Electromagnetic Probes; Nuclear Astrophysics: Theoretical Aspects of Nuclear Astrophysics; Experimental Aspects of Nuclear Astrophysics; Applications of Nuclear Physics: Fission, Spallation and Transmutation; Other Applications of Nuclear Physics. Book Electromagnetic Interactions of Hadrons

Download or read book Electromagnetic Interactions of Hadrons written by A. Donnachie and published by Springer. This book was released on 1978-12 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While electromagnetic interactions were first used to probe the structure of elementary particles more than 20 years ago, their importance has only become fully evident in the last 10 years. In the resonance region, photo production experiments have provided clear evidence for simple quark model ideas, and confirmed the Melosh-transformed SU(6)w as a relevant symmetry classification. At higher energies, their most striking feature is their similarity to hadron-induced reactions, and they have provided fresh insight into the ideas developed to explain strong-interaction physics. New dimensions are added by taking the photon off mass shell, both in the spacelike region, where the development of high-energy electron and muon beams has led to the discovery and study of scaling and the intro duction of "partons," and even more dramatically in the timelike region, where the development of high-energy electron-positron storage rings has led to the exciting discoveries of the last four years. In view of the immense interest stimulated by these developments, an extensive review of our present state of knowledge is both timely and useful. Because of the very wide range of the subject, a cooperative venture presents itself as the most suitable format and is the one we have adopted here. The emphasis throughout is primarily, but not entirely, on phenomenology, concentrating on describing the main features of the experimental data and on the theoretical ideas used directly in their inter pretation.

Book The Interactions of Hadrons Containing a Heavy Quark in the Strong Coupling Limit of Lattice QCD

Download or read book The Interactions of Hadrons Containing a Heavy Quark in the Strong Coupling Limit of Lattice QCD written by Brian C. Fore and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis we calculate the interaction potentials between two hadrons that are pinned in place on the lattice by infinitely heavy quarks. The potentials are calculated to leading order in the strong coupling and hopping parameter expansions for the following six systems: meson/meson, baryon/antimeson, baryon/baryon, meson/antimeson, baryon/meson and baryon/antibaryon. For each hadron/hadron system, we consider all allowed spin and isospin configurations for the light quarks. The interaction potentials we find take the form of one-meson-exchange potentials, whose sign and magnitude depends on the light quarks' spin and isospin.

Book Hadron and Nuclear Physics 09

Download or read book Hadron and Nuclear Physics 09 written by Atsushi Hosaka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects papers presented at the international workshop "Hadron-Nuclear Physics 09" held at Osaka, November 1619, 2009. The series of this workshop has provided opportunities to discuss common interests of hadron and nuclear physics. Hadrons and nuclei show up different layers of phenomena governed by the same dynamics dictated by the fundamental law of the strong interaction, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The basic building blocks of matter, quarks and gluons, are confined in hadrons, generating their masses dynamically and breaking chiral symmetry spontaneously. The latter is the origin of the presence of the pion which governs the essential part of the nuclear interaction. Therefore, the common key words are chiral symmetry and pions. This volume contains reports of current achievements in hadron physics including exotic multiquark states, meson production reactions and non-linear dynamics of hadrons, and those in nuclear physics clustering phenomena, exotic neutron rich nuclei and the pions in nuclei. As related subjects, applications to astronuclear physics, including accelerator physics and laser physics are also discussed comprehensively.

Book Di hadron Correlations with Identified Leading Hadrons in 200 GeV Au Au and D Au Collisions at STAR

Download or read book Di hadron Correlations with Identified Leading Hadrons in 200 GeV Au Au and D Au Collisions at STAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The STAR Collaboration presents for the first time two-dimensional di-hadron correlations with identified leading hadrons in 200 GeV central Au + Au and minimum-bias d + Au collisions to explore hadronization mechanisms in the quark gluon plasma. The enhancement of the jet-like yield for leading pions in Au + Au data with respect to the d + Au reference and the absence of such an enhancement for leading non-pions (protons and kaons) are discussed within the context of a quark recombination scenario. The correlated yield at large angles, specifically in the ridge region, is found to be significantly higher for leading non-pions than pions. As a result, the consistencies of the constituent quark scaling, azimuthal harmonic model and a mini-jet modification model description of the data are tested, providing further constraints on hadronization.
