Book Organometallic Modeling of the Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation Reactions

Download or read book Organometallic Modeling of the Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation Reactions written by Robert A. Sánchez-Delgado and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fields of hydrodesulfurization (HDS) and hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) continue to attract the attention of researchers in the various disciplines connected to these fascinating problems that represent two of the key outstanding chemical challenges for the petroleum refining industry in view of their very strong environmental and commercial implications. One area that has flourished impressively over the last 15 years is the organometallic chemistry of thiophenes and other related sulfur-containing molecules. This has become a powerful method for modeling numerous surface species and reactions implicated in HDS schemes, and nowadays it represents an attractive complement to the standard procedures of surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis, for understanding the complex reaction mechanisms involved in this process. Similar developments have begun to appear in connection with HDN mechanisms, although in a much more modest scale and depth. Some years ago when, encouraged by Prof. B. R. James, this book was planned, several excellent reviews and monographs treating different aspects of HDS were already available including some on the subject of organometallic models. However, it seemed appropriate to try to summarize the most striking features of this chemistry in an updated and systematic way, and inasmuch as possible in connection with the common knowledge and beliefs of the mechanisms of heterogeneous HDS catalysis. Hopefully, this attempt to build some conceptual bridges between these two traditionally separated areas of chemistry has met with some success.

Book Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation

Download or read book Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation written by Toshiaki Kabe and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-04-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of efficient catalysts for hydrodesulfurization (HDS) and hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) processes is an essential and urgent research field. During oil refinement the removal of sulfur and nitrogen compounds from petroleum feedstock is crucial, as the emission of sulfur and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere causes severe environmental problems. In light of the industrial process for hydrocarbons, HDS is indispensable as it eliminates the poisoning of catalysts during hydrotreatment and hydrocracking. In order to develop new catalysts, the mechanism of these reactions as well as the structures and functions of the catalysts need to be elucidated. This book provides an up-to-date and deep insight, which spans kinetic studies, catalytic cycles, structures and properties of catalysts to process engineering. Therefore every chemist and engineer working in this important research field will welcome this valuable source of information.

This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The high-pressure liquid-phase flow microreactor is a unique reactor for obtaining quantitative kinetic data for catalytic hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation. The hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene involves formation of biphenyl as a primary reaction product without hydrogenation of the aromatic rings. The catalytic hydrodenitrogenation of quinoline involves rapid hydrogenation of the nitrogen-containing ring followed by cracking of the ring to produce an aniline which is slowly hydrodenitrogenated. The hydrodenitrogenation reactions follow first-order kinetics. The order of activity of five commercial hydrotreating catalysts for quinoline hydrodenitrogenation is (Ni--Mo/Al2O3)> (Ni--W/Al2O3)> (Ni--W/Al2O3--SiO2)> (Co--Mo/Al2O3).

Book Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation of Model Compounds Using In situ Hydrogen Over Nano Dispersed Mo Sulfide Based Catalysts

Download or read book Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrodenitrogenation of Model Compounds Using In situ Hydrogen Over Nano Dispersed Mo Sulfide Based Catalysts written by Kun Liu and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heavy oil derived from oil sands is becoming an important resource of energy and transportation fuels due to the depletion of conventional oil resources. However, bitumen and heavy oils have a low hydrogen/carbon ratio and contain a large percentage of sulfur and nitrogen heterocyclic compounds. At the level of deep desulfurization, aromatic poly-nuclear molecules, especially nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, exhibit strong inhibitive effect on hydrodesulfurization (HDS) due to competitive adsorption on catalytically active sites with sulfur-containing molecules. Therefore, it is necessary to study the HDS of refractory sulfur-containing compounds and also the effect of nitrogen-containing species on the deep HDS for achieving the ultra low sulfur specifications for transportation fuels. Additionally, the cost of H2 increased in recent years and a bitumen emulsion upgrading technique using an alternative in-situ H2 generated via the water gas shift (WGS) reaction during the hydro-treating was developed in our group.

Book Mass Transfer with Chemical Reaction in Multiphase Systems

Download or read book Mass Transfer with Chemical Reaction in Multiphase Systems written by E. Alper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1079 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of "mass transfer with chemical reaction" takes place whenever one phase is brought into contact with one or more other phases not in chemical equilibrium with it. This phenomenon has industrial, biological and physiological importance. In chemical process engineering, it is encountered in both separ ation processes and reaction engineering. In some cases, a chemical reaction may deliberately be employed for speeding up the rate of mass transfer and/or for increasing the capacity of the solvent; in other cases the multiphase reaction system is a part of the process with the specific aim of product formation. Finally, in some cases, for instance "distillation with chemical reaction", both objectives are involved. Although the subject is clearly a chemical engineering undertakin~, it requires often a good understanding of other subjects, such as chemistry and fluid mechanics etc., leading to publications in diversified areas. On the other har.d, the subject has always been a major field and one of the most fruitful for chemical engineers.

Download or read book Hydroprocessing Catalysts And Processes The Challenges For Biofuels Production written by Bo Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for hydroprocessing catalysts has shown an increasing trend, because of their applications in refining of petroleum and biofuels, in order to comply with strict environmental regulations controlling emissions from transportation vehicles.Transport fuel is dominated by fossil fuels with carbon emission intensive production methods. If we are to move away from these sources, the alternative is to produce liquid fuels from agricultural stocks — crops, crop waste, forestry waste or algae. Converting these feedstocks into high quality fuels is a considerable challenge.By describing the current status in processing agricultural feedstock into high quality liquid transport fuels, the authors set out the means to develop better chemistry and catalysis for the necessary conversion processes. This book offers an intriguing insight into the mechanisms and protocols involved in new hydroprocessing catalysts and processes, and covers the methods for upgrading these liquids to modern transport vehicles suitable for operation in modern gasoline and diesel engines. It provides an introduction to the mechanism of hydroprocessing reactions, application of different metals in hydroprocessing, the effect of catalyst supports, applications in refining new feedstock, renewable fuels standards, the management of spent hydroprocessing catalysts, and hydrogen production.Hydroprocessing Catalysts and Processes will prove useful for both researchers in academe and industry concerned with future fuels development and treatment to produce current and future liquid transport fuels.
