Book Phase Interaction in the Metal Oxide Melts Gas System

Download or read book Phase Interaction in the Metal Oxide Melts Gas System written by Vladislav Boronenkov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes mathematical models that enable prediction of phase compositions for various technological processes, as developed on the base of a complex physico-chemical analysis of reaction. It studies thermodynamics and kinetics of specific stages of complex pyrometallurgical processes involving boron, carbon, sulfur, tungsten, phosphorus, and many more, as well as their exposure to all sorts of factors. First and foremost, this enables to optimize processes and technologies at the stage of design, while traditional empirical means of development of new technologies are basically incapable of providing an optimal solution. Simulation results of metals and alloys production, welding and coating technologies allow obtaining materials with pre-given composition, structure and properties in a cost-saving and conscious manner. Moreover, a so-called "inverse problem", i.e., selecting source materials which would ensure the required results, cannot be solved by any other means.

Book Basics Of Thermodynamics And Phase Transitions In Complex Intermetallics

Download or read book Basics Of Thermodynamics And Phase Transitions In Complex Intermetallics written by Esther Belin-ferre and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-05-14 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex metal alloys (CMAs) comprise a huge group of largely unknown alloys and compounds, where many phases are formed with crystal structures based on giant unit cells containing atom clusters, ranging from tens of to more than thousand atoms per unit cell. In these phases, for many phenomena, the physical length scales are substantially smaller than the unit-cell dimension. Hence, these materials offer unique combinations of properties which are mutually exclusive in conventional materials, such as metallic electric conductivity combined with low thermal conductivity, good light absorption with high-temperature stability, high metallic hardness with reduced wetting by liquids, etc. This book is the first of a series of books issued yearly as a deliverable to the European Community of the School established within the European Network of Excellence CMA. Written by reputed experts in the fields of metal physics, surface physics, surface chemistry, metallurgy, and process engineering, this book brings together expertise found inside as well as outside the network to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge in CMAs.

Book Chemical Thermodynamics for Metals and Materials

Download or read book Chemical Thermodynamics for Metals and Materials written by Hae-Geon Lee and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of thermodynamic books claiming to be original in both presentation and approach have been published. However, thermodynamics is still a confusing subject for uninitiated students and an "easy-to-forget" one for graduate engineers. In order to solve these problems, this computer aided learning package -- textbook and CD-ROM -- takes a new approach. This package is unique and beneficial in that it simulates a classroom lecture: it actually writes important equations and concepts on a virtual board, underlines, draws circles, places ticks to emphasise important points, draws arrows to indicate relationships, uses colours for visual effect, erases some parts to write new lines, and even repeats some parts of the lesson to stress their importance. This realistic simulation is made possible by the employment of the multimedia capabilities of the modern-day computer. Readers are not just passively presented with thermodynamics, they can also interactively select and repeat any particular topic of interest as many times as they want. This flexibility allows readers to choose their own pace of presentation. This complementary set is in many important respects better than the books that are currently available on the subject.
