Book Interaction of a Surface Wave with a Dielectric Slab Discontinuity

Download or read book Interaction of a Surface Wave with a Dielectric Slab Discontinuity written by Steven A. Arcone and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of a 5.1-GHz transverse electric surface wave with a dielectric slab is experimentally investigated. The wave is initially supported by a dielectric substrate resting upon a metallic ground-plane. A slab, made of the same dielectric material as the substrate and variable in height, is then placed upon the waveguide. The results for a small slab sitting on the substrate showed that the discontinuity was a very inefficient launcher of reflected surface waves. Investigations of these reflections with a trough waveguide showed that, for values of slab height comparable to the exponential decay height of the surface wave, the reflections remain very small. However, as the slab height is increased beyond the decay height, the reflected amplitude approaches the theoretical value for a plane wave reflected from the interface between air and the same dielectric. The results are applicable to surface wave methods of microwave deicing of wings and helicopter rotors. (Author).

Book Silicon Based Millimeter Wave Devices

Download or read book Silicon Based Millimeter Wave Devices written by Johann-Friedrich Luy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description of field-theoretical methods for the design and analysis of planar waveguide structures and antennas. The principles and limitations of transit-time devices with different injection mechanisms are covered, as are aspects of fabrication and characterization. The physical properties of silicon Schottky contacts and diodes are treated in a separate chapter, while two whole chapters are devoted to silicon/germanium devices. The integration of devices in monolithic circuits is explained together with advanced technologies, such as the self-mixing oscillator operation, before concluding with sensor and system applications.

Book Structured Surfaces as Optical Metamaterials

Download or read book Structured Surfaces as Optical Metamaterials written by Alexei A. Maradudin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical metamaterials are an exciting new field in optical science. A rapidly developing class of these metamaterials are those that allow the manipulation of volume and surface electromagnetic waves in desirable ways by suitably structuring the surfaces they interact with. They have applications in a variety of fields, such as materials science, photovoltaic technology, imaging and lensing, beam shaping and lasing. Describing techniques and applications, this book is ideal for researchers and professionals working in metamaterials and plasmonics, as well as those just entering this exciting new field. It surveys different types of structured surfaces, their design and fabrication, their unusual optical properties, recent experimental observations and their applications. Each chapter is written by an expert in that area, giving the reader an up-to-date overview of the subject. Both the experimental and theoretical aspects of each topic are presented.
