"I hear it from students and software developers," he says. "I hear it from spiritual leaders and coffee baristas. And I hear it from my own inner self." We all feel that nasty pull to and fro, the frantic busyness that exhausts us and threatens to undo us. And we all think we know the solution -- more downtime, more relaxation, more rest. And we're all wrong. As DeGroat himself has discovered, the real solution to what pulls us apart is wholeheartedness, a way of living and being that can transform us from the inside out. And that's what readers of this book will discover too.

Book excerpt: Let's face it; Jesus made some radical claims while here on earth. By far the most profound claim was that He was the Son of God and that through Him, all men can be saved. But His other promises are pretty radical also. Not only does Jesus claim to be able to provide eternal life after we die, He claims to be able to provide an abundant life while we are here. Those are some pretty tall claims. Can Jesus really do this? You bet your life He can! If you have believed the first claim, that accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior will secure your eternal life when you die, why not believe His promises of an abundant life while you are alive? One of the most powerful tools we have as believers is being able to stand on the amazing promises of Jesus. Many times we overlook or undervalue the tremendous source victory we have in the Word of God. We may think that these promises are just words on a sheet of paper. That is not the case. These words are powerful. These words reflect the character of our Messiah, Redeemer and yes, our Big Brother, who wants us to walk in peace, love, prosperity, health and faith. However, in order to walk in these areas, we must first know what these promises are and then we must believe them. One of the most effective ways to understand and use these life changing promises is during your time of prayer and meditation. In this incredible 31-day journey, you will be able to renew your mind regarding these awesome, life changing promises. Each devotional contains a powerful promise, a meditation on the promise to help you understand the passage, a power affirmation to help you renew your mind and apply the promise to your life and a beautiful color photo. Book excerpt: "Every man who knocks on the door of a brothel is knocking for God." - G. K. Chesterton What if lust for porn is really a search for true passion? In a world where there are 68 million searches for pornography every day and where over 70 percent of Christian men report viewing porn in the last year, it's no surprise that more and more men struggle with an addiction to this false fantasy. Common wisdom says if they just had more willpower or more faith, their fight would be over. Is the answer really that simple? According to the counselor and ministry leader Michael John Cusick, the answer is no--but the big truth may be much more freeing.Backed by scripture, Cusick uses examples from his own life and from his twenty years of counseling experience to show us how the pursuit of empty pleasure is really a search for our heart's deepest desire--and the real key to to resistance is discovering and embracing the joy we truly want. Cusick's insights help readers understand how porn struggles begin, what to do to prevent them, and most importantly, how to overcome the compulsion once it begins. In the end, this powerful book shows us all how the barrier built by porn addiction can become a bridge to abundant life.

Book The Arc of Faith Based Initiatives

Download or read book The Arc of Faith Based Initiatives written by John P. Bartkowski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers an in-depth examination of a diverse range of faith-based programs implemented in three different geographical locales: family support in rural Mississippi, transitional housing in Michigan, and addiction recovery in the Pacific Northwest (Washington-Oregon). Various types of religious service providers—faith-intensive and faith-related—are carefully examined, and secular organizations also serve as an illuminating point of comparison. Among other insights, this book reveals how the “three C’s” of social service provision—programmatic content, organizational culture, and ecological context—all combine to shape the delivery of welfare services in the nonprofit world. This book warns against simplistic generalizations about faith-based organizations. Faith-based providers exhibit considerable diversity and, quite often, remarkable resilience in the face of challenging social circumstances. An appreciation of these nuances is critical as policies concerning faith-based organizations continue to evolve.
