Book iNTELLYJELLY Dec 18 Issue

Download or read book iNTELLYJELLY Dec 18 Issue written by Harshita Nagar and published by Prerna Publication. This book was released on 2018-12-01 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: iNTELLYJELLY- A name inspired by (no points for guessing) the word ‘intelligent’. Among many, the suffix ‘Jelly’ was agreed upon unanimously by us, as a word that brought in memories of fun, fun, and more fun! An amalgamation of these two words was our way of expressing our intention─ to make intelligent reading fun! One of the intentions of this magazine is to be that companion for children that offers a series of situations and stories and encourages them to shape their own ideas. The purpose is also to be a source of conversation which is beautifully woven into the lives of children and helps them develop to be limitless. While brainstorming ideas on how this magazine will play a major role in a child’s life, we ideated with numerous scenarios. We imagined a rough train ride where an 8-year-old child is seated in a corner, happily flipping through these pages. We also pictured a beautiful bedtime routine where a 5-year-old and his parents take the opportunity to flip through a few stories and discuss things about the world, something that we rarely do otherwise. We further imagined a 12-year-old child engrossed in taking notes from this to build a science project. When visualising all this, we also imagined gadgets lying far away and not being asked or sought for. We didn’t just see a child being nurtured; we saw the child’s potential being discovered and an exciting future being created. For kids aged 4 to 12 years, iNTELLYJELLY offers a holistic approach to empower them through a kind of education that instils in them a sense of purpose and a willingness to create something worthwhile. Some of the key areas that iNTELLYJELLY talks about each month are: ValuesLeadership qualitiesEmotional quotientTeamworkLogical thinkingKnowledgeScienceGeographyGlobal literature UNESCO’s proven methodology plays a major role in inspiring and moulding iNTELLYJELLY’s content. As a result, you will find the magazine offering a vibrant and colourful array of comics, stories, activities and a lot more for young readers. With immense pride, we share that iNTELLYJELLY has grown at a great pace and has earned national and international acclamation within the first two years of its inception. This clearly demonstrates our readers’ faith in us. Among many, the credit for this progress and ongoing momentum goes to the prestigious schools that have welcomed and introduced iNTELLYJELLY in the lives of their students. It has also been a privilege to partner with Reliance Jio in creating awareness among children. iNTELLYJELLY has also been appreciated by a few eminent personalities like Sir Richard Branson (The Virgin group, UK), Mr. Amitabh Bachchan (Actor), Ms.Nandita Das (Actor and Social Activist) and many more. ‘Being limitless’ runs through our veins, and hence, we are committed to creating a deeply inset habit of reading among kids, globally.

Book excerpt: Unravel the puzzle that is the mysterious and misunderstood son of Mahadeva-KARTIKEYA. Kartikeya was born from the flames of a desperate need, an ardent desire, and an utmost devastation. In him was distilled the terrible powers of Mahadev, at its fiercest and most deadly. Although he fought many wars and slew many tyrants, yet his gifts to humanity have always been those of mercy, compassion and love. What makes this possible? For Kartikeya, there have always been more questions than answers. Did he really walk away from his family over a piece of fruit? What about the women in his life-was he the ravisher he is at times accused of being, or the protector of women? Was he the violent warrior who revelled in bloodlust, or a gentle family man? What was his relationship with his more popular sibling, Ganesha? Anuja Chandramouli weaves together myth, imagination and folklore while looking to answer these questions, and recreates for modern readers the story of one of the most enigmatic gods-Kartikeya.

Book excerpt: Long-listed for the Man Booker Prize, a novel about violence, love, and religion in modern India On a train bound for the seaside town of Jarmuli, known for its temples, three elderly women meet a young documentary filmmaker named Nomi, whose braided hair, tattoos, and foreign air set her apart. At a brief stop en route, the women witness a sudden assault on Nomi that leaves her stranded as the train pulls away. Later in Jarmuli, among pilgrims, priests, and ashrams, the women disembark only to find that Nomi has managed to arrive on her own. What is someone like her, clearly not a worshipper, doing in this remote place? Over the next five days, the women live out their long-planned dream of a holiday together; their temple guide pursues a forbidden love; and Nomi is joined by a photographer to scout locations for a documentary. As their lives overlap and collide, Nomi's past comes into focus, and the serene surface of the town is punctured by violence and abuse as Jarmuli is revealed as a place with a long, dark history that transforms all who encounter it. A haunting, vibrant novel that was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize and the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature and short-listed for the Hindu Literary Prize, Anuradha Roy's Sleeping on Jupiter is a brilliantly told story of contemporary India from an internationally acclaimed writer.

Download or read book The unacknowledged struggles written by Asiya Zehra and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nasrin is Abdullah's first wife. She's extremely empathetic and everyone's favourite in the haveli. Badi Begum, Abdullah's mother, adores her a lot but when she knows Nasrin can never be a mother, her immaculate bonding becomes inimical with Nasrin. On his mother's demand, Abdullah is obliged for a second marriage to Bano. After one and a half years, they're blessed with a daughter, Azima. Nasrin forgets her piercing sufferings of 1947's partition, when her family left India forever, after Azima's birth. Out of her miserable world grows mother-daughter bonding that can endure all obstacles and hardships of life. She teaches her one of the important lessons of life that there is a vast difference between 'being patient' and 'being oppressed'. She loves Azima beyond everything one could ever imagine. But once again, she has to bear the pain of separation when Azima will marry to Hasan. Hasan is happy with his Nawabi tag and unaware of his responsibilities towards his wife and daughter. His sister Ruqayya is the one who holds his business. She loves Azima and her niece Ezzah a lot, also she shares a strong friendship with Azima, but as usual, she's perplexed and entangled between blood relation and friendship. Maheen, Hasan's courtesan, has changed Azima's life forever. In a patriarchal and conservative society where women are not allowed to speak before their fathers and husbands, will Nasrin and Azima be able to get what they deserve for their, "unacknowledged struggles"?

Book excerpt: Hospital Sketches (1863) is a compilation of four sketches based on letters Louisa May Alcott sent home during the six weeks she spent as a volunteer nurse for the Union Army during the American Civil War in Georgetown.SummaryTribulation Periwinkle opens the story by complaining, "I want something to do." She dismisses suggestions to write a book, teach, get married, or start acting. When her younger brother suggests she "go nurse the soldiers", she immediately responds, "I will!" After substantial hardship in trying to obtain a spot, she has further difficulty finding a place on the train. She then describes her travel through New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore en route to Washington DC.Immediately after her arrival, Periwinkle must attend to the wounded from the Battle of Fredericksburg. Her first assignment is washing them before putting them to bed. She converses with the various wounded soldiers, including an Irishman and a Virginia blacksmith. The death of the blacksmith, a man named John, in particular touches her deeply.
