This book was released on 1996-03-13 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume gives an up-to-date overview of the most recent results in the field of plant molecular response to environmental constraints, especially heat, cold, water/drought, salt or light. It centers on molecular approaches in understanding the bases of plant tolerance to physical stresses, links among different environmental stresses, and the manipulation of gene expression by recombinant DNA technology to obtain tolerant transgenic plants.

Book excerpt: Bilingual vocabulary in the field of artificial intelligence containing about 12,000 terms, of which 3,700 are accompanied by definitions. Most of the terms are related to knowledge representation, theorem proving, pattern recognition, cognitive psychology, informatics, natural language processing, automatic program generation, problem solving, image processing, expert systems, speech recognition, modelling, artificial vision, machine translation, computer-assisted translation, learning, man-machine dialogue, and logic and linguistics applied to artificial intelligence. Although robotics is often considered a subfield of artificial intelligence, it has been excluded from this vocabulary.

Download or read book Information Systems in Practice and Theory written by Peter C. Pirow and published by North-Holland. This book was released on 1988 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revolution in information systems technology has resulted in the creation of whole new departments, new types of jobs, major investments in hardware and software and changes in the way that people think about systems. These changes have resulted in fundamental alterations to the way in which organisations operate and compete. Many senior managers received their education and early work experience in an age which preceded the wide-scale introduction of computer technology and the situation is complicated by the fact that there are few theoretical paradigms which can be used as a basis for the necessary decision making or for research in the area. In order to further the study of this field, IFIP arranged the ISIS conference, which considered both the practical use of information systems and some of the latest theoretical considerations for their design. The resulting volume has a number of aims: - To assist senior managers with the task of formulating an information systems strategy. - To help the reader benefit from the experience in office automation that has accumulated in recent years.
Download or read book Prolog by Example written by Helder Coelho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prolog has a declarative style. A predicate definition includes both the input and output parameters, and it allows a programmer to define a desired result without being concerned about the detailed instructions of how it is to be computed. Such a declarative language offers a solution to the software crisis, because it is shorter and more concise, more powerful and understandable than present-day languages. Logic highlights novel aspects of programming, namely using the same program to compute a relation and its inverse, and supporting deductive retrieval of informa tion. This is a book about using Prolog. Its real point is the examples introduced from Chapter 3 onwards, and so a Prolog programmer does not need to read Chapters 1 and 2, which are oriented more to teachers and to students, respec tively. The book is recommended for introductory and advanced university courses, where students may need to remember the basics about logic program ming and Prolog, before starting doing. Chapters 1 and 2 were also kept for the sake of unity of the whole material. In Chapter 1 a teaching strategy is explained based on the key concepts of Pro log which are novel aspects of programming. Prolog is enhanced as a computer programming language used for solving problems that involve objects and the relationships between objects. This chapter provides a pedagogical tour of pre scriptions for the organization of Prolog programs, by pointing out the main draw backs novices may encounter.
Download or read book Text and Speech Triggered Information Access written by Steve Renals and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-09-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents revised versions of the lectures given at the 8th ELSNET European Summer School on Language and Speech Communication held on the Island of Chios, Greece, in summer 2000. Besides an introductory survey, the book presents lectures on data analysis for multimedia libraries, pronunciation modeling for large vocabulary speech recognition, statistical language modeling, very large scale information retrieval, reduction of information variation in text, and a concluding chapter on open questions in research for linguistics in information access. The book gives newcomers to language and speech communication a clear overview of the main technologies and problems in the area. Researchers and professionals active in the area will appreciate the book as a concise review of the technologies used in text- and speech-triggered information access.
